illustration friday:  hero

this painting was done tonight after learning about anonymous's cool idea of doing her "family wall" in art form.  as a piece for the wall i need to tweak it a bit, especially cuz bits don't resemble him after being painted.  i sound about eight years old, but yes, my daddy's my hero. he's done what he's wanted while still maintaining his integrity and supporting his family.  he's always working for more, striving for more, while still making time for those who need him.  doesn't matter who they are...my friends, the friends of my friends...if he can help them he will.  love you dad!

I love him Kerry :) He has an open and warm face. He also looks attentative and caring. Will he hang at your home or your parents?

This is a wonderful illustration on so many levels, Kerry. Thank-you for sharing a little of your father with us!

i'm not sure anon...i'll attempt the rest of my family first and then see.  after all, they may not go with my parents new decor...hee hee...dad's ripping apart their home at the moment, doing a lot of interior decoration, these days where ever i go seems to be a construction site! mum doesn't feel that the illo is quite true to life though, i seem to have given him too much hair in her opinion :D but what's the good of artistic license if you can't tweak things here and there, eh?!

isay, glad you're a xangian now so we can hear what you have to say, thanks for the nice comments!

aravis, i was going to post a bio i wrote for my dad's business with the pic, but although he's led an interesting life, i thought it would be a wee bit tedious! maybe i'll post it separately, share a lot more of my daddy dearest!

He's a very distinguished looking fellow, Kerry ! He must be as proud of you as you are of him. That's awesome ! And I think Isay is right, you do have his eyes.
Have a great weekend,
Cheers !

steve, you and isay are both right...i've got his eyes, his teeth, his "sturdy" build...pretty much everything except for his nose, which was my mother's until i broke it twice playing sports and now even that resembles more my father's :D

Outchie ! Sounds painful. You should take better care of your nose, Kerry !
Looks great in your photo, though...

thanks steve...but you haven't seen the side view:D let's just say that there was never anything "roman" in our bloodlines till i put it there. but don't worry, no sports these days for me, the only chance of making matters worse is if i have one too many beers! hardy har...

BTW i think everybody should watch "the boy whose skin fell off", the TLC documentary that airs tonight. it's utterly devastating to watch, but it's one of those things that makes you want to do better, be better. kudos to johnny kennedy for doing something so brave as filming his own demise to share with the world. after watching, one would, as they say, "be made of stone" to not donate to his cause (www.debra.org i believe is the address)

I think Dads can be the ultimate heroes, nurturing our spirits and our bodies. Glad to see your dad is yours. Nice illustration.

This has great presence!  It's pleasing how many people have their own parents as heroes.  I don't know what your father looks like, but it's probably you've captured him in ways you hadn't anticipated.  Our national Australian portrait competition, the Archibald Prize, often has winning portraits that have a lot of stylisation, or eve carry a certain amount of caricature about them.  Your portrait is like that!
