illustration friday

The theme this week was "bubble." I wasn't sure what I wanted to do for a good chunk of this week, but given the holiday vibe I've got going on, I thought of snow globes. When I was a little one, I thought of the inhabitants of the snow globe as bubble dwellers (kind of like the boy in the bubble but a lot less serious and more fun), and I would love to shake and shake the snow globes until big, frothy bubbles would grow from the stirred up water and snow flakes, collecting at the top of the dome.

Swing by Illustration Friday for a gander at all the talent out there. There's a fab new site and everything, totally devoted to Illustration Friday, all thanks to Penelope and Brianna!

Wow, I love your site!  Definitely not something I've seen before in xanga.  What caught my eye though were the dog photos a few posts back.  The white dog with the red cloak...is that a westie?  I am just infatuated with them, but it seems that here they are very sought after pups.

Regarding snowglobes, I like them too.  And I wish that Richard Gere didn't use one in that movie Unfaithful with Diane Lane.  What a waste of a snowglobe.

I am fascinated by snow globes now. I am about to go look up how they make them. Thanks again for making my Friday with your illustration! I was just telling a cartoonist friend that she has to check out your site. Have a great weekend!

Okay so check out this snow globe 'how-to' site. It involves crushed egg shells. Cool.

Oh, so many nice comments! I wasn't sure I loved this illustration when I finished it last night~it was alright, but I couldn't seem to get the feeling for it exactly right! Thanks so much for the nice notes; they keep me plugging onward! Welcome to new readers! :)

AnneMarie--I love the idea of making my own snowglobe! If you do it, I totally want to see pics on your blog!! And thanks for passing me onto your cartoonist friend! That is super nice (I am no pro illustrator, so in case the work looks shoddy, that would be my out clause!)!

Kenenske, you should totally join in. You are so creative as is, couldn't imagine what funness you'd make for IF!

Hope, Yvonne, Bekmarie, Bertha, thanks for the sweet comments!! And yay for your profile pics being added! Coooool.

Satu, I love your illo. It was super sweet!

Pussicat, I totally agree with you about how wasteful of a perfectly nice snow globe Richard Gere was. Damned French hottie; it's half his fault it came to that. Also, the pooch is a Yorkie-Maltese mix. Not nearly as sweet in disposition as Westies. =P

I haven't figured out how to upload my picture on xanga yet....

I love the last 2 posts! Snow globe is adorable (as is all of your illos.)!!!

When I hear "bubble" I think of the "Bubble Boy" from Seinfeld.

And I LOVE the VH1 Classics....I just bought the newest "Cure" CD this Wednesday....I still think I'm SOOOOO deep like I did in the 80"s! And honey, I KNOW all about black eye liner....but going to my first Grateful Dead concert in the late 80's finally cured me from that! After that I was all about long straight hair, becoming a vegetarian, peace and love. AGAIN, I thought I was SOOOO deep!

Wow, Giao... I love that snow globe! The ornate front is just fantastic and I love the bubbles in the globe. That is such a wonderful idea for an illo.

Yes, I am the homesick expat in pizza country...   For all the "you're so lucky that you live in a foreign country" remarks from friends back home, I must reply to that....'there's no place like home....there's no place like home'. Your husband loves those Westies too huh? Just yesterday we met with a prospective seller....their dogs were just adorable....little rascals I'd say! Unfortunately we need to be on a waiting list along with several others, so I guess it's off to look for another Westie breeder
