illustration friday

This week's theme was "disaster relief." For a good share of this week, I wasn't certain I'd be able to come up with a suitable illustration. It's a very heavy subject, and I didn't know what would do it justice. I came up with a relatively light take on the topic: a gift basket of sorts. Monkey and I have donated through the Red Cross, but in case you're looking for other options, here's a good list of other worthy organizations accepting donations.

The gift basket angle of this illo (admittedly, pretty light fare and couldn't really hold a candle to the heaviness of the horrible situation of the tsunamis) came from the thank you gift baskets I put together for my super neighbors.

I think the Thank You baskets went over well. (I hope so, anyway). I went for a straight-to-the-tummy-because-that-takes-you-then-to-the-heart tack...kolacky (I bought them from the bakery--no time to bake now that I'm back in the cube farm!), my instamocha mix, a box of Turtles, and a caramelized pecans candle by Meltables.

Some pics:

(shhh, timesaver tip: I cheated and popped the bakery cookies into cute little takeaway containers...the cookies do taste really homemade!).

And by gum, I think this is a gnome-gets-good-lovin week, because this evening I found the most delightful package from Mrs. Rubber-Sol. I am feeling a bit spoiled:

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, Leslie & Hank!

Happy weekend, all! Take good care and stay warm and safe!

Giao I think your illo is so good! I'm sure your neighbors loved their basket. They're probably telling all of their friends that they have the best neighbors ever!

hello Giao!

I love your illo -- the grapes and the water are my fave -- great job, amiga! :) I think the heaviness of the subject kept me out of this IF, but I do think that your illo is superb. So sweet and darling, of course!

And I'm glad the package made its way out of the California RAIN (oh this rain has been maddening!) and to your home. Enjoy! :)

If you move South, I want to plan to get together with you and Monkey.  Good luck with everything!

I think you've done really well with that illustration. And you've certainly done well with the gift baskets. I so love gift baskets. I always get them for Christmas from a couple of companies I work for and mostly there's food in it you never eat because they are just too fancy, but boy do I love opening everything up :o)

Mauna Loa MACNUTS!!!  Wahoo!!!!  You are a lucky girl!  And as always, loved your illo....especially where you added that extra special touch by adding the words sustenance, compassion, and hope.

hmmm...just a thought, because I only noticed now that Xanga frontpage has a "Today's Xangan birthdays" module.  Now if I remember correctly, you said that you were a fellow Capricorn (in response to my mentioning my husband's bday this month).  Now tell me, because I can't find that info anywhere here on your site.  When is your birthday??
