My Prediction for the World Series:

Of course, being a native Chicagoan on the Near North Side means I get to choose which ever major league baseball team I want.  And unlike professional football (0), we actually have 2 teams to choose from in Chicago.  Seeing as how the Cubs are whiny about things they don't need to be whiny about (such as legendary Cubs fan and broadcaster Steve Stone rightly criticizing them for unwise decisions), I laid my stakes with the Sox this year.

Now, granted, I'm not a great baseball fan.  But the things I don't like about baseball in general (the slow pitches, the fat men - I mean, C'mon, golf doesn't have as many fat men as pro baseball does, the general air of laziness and complacency), the White Sox have avoided like PETA avoids McDonald's.

So, of course I'm going with the Sox in five.  The only question would be the relief and closers, who haven't seen action in two series.  Heck, they're practically born-again virgins.  So, that's no surprise.  That fifth game may be a doozy, and we may lose either the first or the fifth.  I have a lot of respect for our pitching staff, but no one (even ex-Yankees) should attempt two complete games in a row, let alone four in two series.

But this is my real prediction:  Steinbrenner - tired of constantly losing - will buy the entire winning organization and use it as a farm team for his beloved Yankees, along with an option for Pujol and the Cleveland Indians.

I was all excited and told everyone here and they were like, "baseball's lame."  I was like, "not as lame as soccer."  They were simply not impressed.  :(

Hey, out of curiousity, does anyone know the exact year it was when the won the pennant last?

1959. last time they won a post-season series, btw, was 1917, the last year they won the world series. the only other time (besides this year, 59 and '17, of course, 1919) black sox scandal. the 'say it ain't so, joe' episode.

baseball's losing popularity in the states, too. a big blow-back was the strike in the mid-90's. and then it's the whole slow-paced, pastoral rurality of it, v. say, my favorite sport, basketball w/ it's hip-hop rhythms. or football (american) w/ its inante violence. americans eat that up, tellin' ya.

you could get shot for saying stuff like that in colombia.

I do remember say it ain't so Joe.

Yeah, I don't mind playing baseball/softball, but it is kind of boring to watch.  Unless your with a bunch of friends at the stadium, that's always fun.

I like watchin (and playing) basketball, hockey and volleyball.  Not so big on (American) football.  Kind of boring I think.

You could get shot for pretty much anything in Colombia, so ya might as well say what ya mean.
