| Klamath Falls updateI think it's about time for an update from the Klamath
Basin.
My computer business...AKA, Jim Vernon
Computer Repair...is started up. You can check it out at
www.jimvernoncomputerrepair.com (soon to be
revamped). I got my first call the other day (well, the first
one that someone actually had a problem. I've been getting a
bunch of calls from advertisers.) and made $75 for an hour's worth of
work. That's pretty good...it's almost as much as Alisha
spends in an hour....just kidding
I finished with summer term at OIT
last week. Two A's and a B....surprisingly I got an A in the
class I thought I'd get an A in, and a B in the class I expect an A
in. Fair trade, I suppose. Overall, I'm happy with
the grades, and I'm looking forward to this fall. Here are
some pictures of the campus:
One of the parking lots with a
decent view. If I'd have turned left a bit more, you'd see
Klamath Lake.
 The Student Union
building. Home of the food and nice places to
study.
A main courtyard of sorts, with a
nice fountain.
 A path through
campus.
 A closer shot of the
fountain.
One of the things I've noticed about the
location of our house in KF is that we're about a mile from an Air
National Guard base. Let me tell you, those guys like to fly,
and they like to fly early and often. Sometime between 9 and
10 in the morning, about 3-4 jets go overhead, and I swear they keep
circling our house....at least they make enough noise that it seems
that way. Anyway, here's some cool jet landing
pictures:

We also have
had some visits from nature, including dragonflies, huge moths, hobo
spiders, and tree frogs: This thing was the size of a silver
dollar. I didn't even want to step on it, it was so
scary.
 Alisha's mom came down to
visit last week. They (Alisha, Ashley, and their mom) had a
pretty good time together. They spent some girl time with
each other, and then had a tie-dye party. See the picture
below:

All in all, everything is
going pretty good for us down here. I must admit that I am a
bit bored now that school is done with. Add to that the fact
that my job consists of taking the occasional call....there really
isn't much for me to do. I've been spending quite a bit of my
time reading technical books...PHP and MySQL for Dummies, Microsoft
SQL, Windows Vista Unofficial Handbook, A+ Certification Guide,
Security+ Certification Guide, and such. I also picked up a
copy of Tolkien's new book, "The Children of Hurin", but it's a bit
dry...like reading the Silmarillion, I suppose I'll be able to chew
through it anyway though.

| Hurrah!I fixed my laptop! Everytime I put it into sleep/hibernation since I got it, the internet stopped working when I woke the computer up. Some kind of bug in Windows Vista. Anyway, this was pretty annoying because I had to disable/re-enable the adapter, or just reboot. So I was looking for an update that would fix it today, and I saw that someone had tried turning off power management for their adapter. I did that, and sure enough, the problem is gone!
I guess what was happening was that Vista was disabling the network connection when I put the computer into hibernation or sleep mode, and wasn't turning the adapter back on when I took the computer out of sleep mode/hibernation. So yeah, hurray for me! and my laptop.
If you don't understand, it's ok. Some poor soul will be Googling for this problem and find this fix.

| Found this on some website. It sums up a lot of conversations I had with customers while working as a customer service/tech support rep.
This guy calls to complain that his custom built laptop isn't shipping soon enough, even though the ship date was displayed on his order before he placed it. (He knew the date, ordered it anyway.) Here's a summary of the call:
Consumer: "I'm an illiterate asshole, fix my problems." CS Rep: "We can't give you priority over the 100 million other orders we have, please understand."
Consumer: "Suck a golf ball through a garden hose. You guys suck. How about you just overnight ship it?" CS Rep: "Sorry to hear your dissatisfaction, call this number to request a change in shipping."
Consumer: "I called and they didn't offer me coitus. This is an outrage." CS Rep: "Try the number again and request a supervisor."
