  • "The First Day of School" dream

It already happened: This week I had the "first day of school" dream. I picked up my kids from lunch 20 minutes late and then I walked them through a dangerous route back to the classroom! I also kept making them walk in the wrong direction and then we had to snake the line backwards in tight hallways...most inconvenient and troublesome.

  • 4 hours in San Francisco

I took a trip to San Francisco today from 10:00 AM to 6:15 PM. =) I visited WPL, my future roommates at Ming Tai for lunch, and MichaelOng at SunsetChurch. I had a great day there and it was sunny and 70 degrees! I couldn't believe I was all the way at 42nd and Lawton and it was SUNNY!

Here are 7 great stories to tell you: I shared these in this order with my family tonight at JadeFountain:

    1. I saw Mrs.F risk her life to help her darling children cross a 6 lane busy street in SF. She corrected a man in a convertible silver miata who wanted to go through the cross walk though she stood there with a whistle and a big red stop sign. It was great to watch. She guards those precious students.

    2. It was so nice to see Mrs. F and Mrs. W! They were so happy to see me and I them! We all agreed that we were excited for the new school year. I took pictures of my future room which was currently being used for 1st grade summer school, as far as I could tell.6-30-08 130

    3. I met my new roommates! We had jook and 2 other soups at Ming Tai. It was good fo finally meet Colleen and to see Leticia again.6-30-08 137 6-30-08 135

    4. I'm trying to memorize where everything is in SF: Where's Safeway? Noriega and 31. Where's Ming Tai? Noriega and 32.

    5. My next visit was to see MichaelOng at Sunset. I hadn't seen him in over a month. I got a boba and he got an ice cream cone from PollyAnn's: Rootbeer.6-30-08 145

    6. Dropped a note in the MichelleFong ministry interest box!6-30-08 153

    7. The best part of the visit to WPL today was when the VP told me her son was in my class. I told her that was such an honor! But also a big risk since I was the NEW 4th grade teacher! She said she had every confidence and trust in me and that her son and I bonded well at the interview in April (dinner at Olive Garden at Stonestown.)

I really am looking forward to being there. I can picture a very sweet and fulfilled life there. Praise God. Thank you, Father. I think this 2008 edition of SF for me will be very different from the 2000-2001 edition.

  • My heart: Here's what's in it

Tonight concludes day 3 of 10 in Sacramento. I've had a great time and have been eating all my favorites.

    To hit the highlights:

#1--My niece Leah is super cute. I love holding her and taking care of her. I've given her a bath and she's fallen asleep on me. =) (Secret: I hum "Come Thy Fount" and walk and bounce her slowly and rub her back.)

#2--The highlight tonight was going to dinner with my dad's lifelong friends Henry and Janet. Janet is amazing to me. I think she's my kindred spirit. Her home is beautiful and she's the epitome of some of the top refinements I would hope to have as a woman. Her style is my style. She opens the patio doors of her home on the lake to let the "Delta" breeze blow in in the summer evenings (Sacramento evenings are just short of divine!) I would watch that quiet lake move in the evenings forever. 6-30-08 117

She takes tons of pictures and tons of pictures of her food. She is a wealth of knowledge of the Sacramento Chinese heritage and lifestyle. She served a wonderful dessert (she entertains!) She uses trays, sets out her dishes, serves Dryer's vanilla ice cream (my fav!) and served tea and coffee with dessert. I took one sip of the tea and it was jasmine my fav! She said she got it in China and uses it sparingly (and she served it to me and my dad! Aww, it melted my heart.) Her home is full of artwork and is neat and clean. We talked about Ikebana flower arranging (I love to arrange flowers too!). She has 9 grandchildren and 3 children. They pipe Frank Sinatra music (renditions of dinner music I also have!) into the home through speakers installed in the ceiling.

I praise the Lord for such beauty and such a blessing tonight. It was affirmation in my spirit that a woman really warms a home; and I fully embrace this idea and this value. I would fully enjoy this honor of cooking for a husband and children and keeping our home, if the Lord ever blessed me with this task. He knows I love it and desire it. I really enjoyed that time with Henry and Janet.

This is what's in my heart. It's clear and plain right here.

  • 3 Unusual Things Today

These happened in this order and they have never happened to me in almost 3 years here in TX:

    1. I received a phone call for a job interview at a school here in Plano, TX. [An Academy in this city that is Christian.] They want to interview me next week. (I applied months and months ago. I haven't called them back yet to tell them I have already accepted an offer in SF, CA for the fall!)

    2. I received this in the mail:

    Jury Summons Dallas 003

I have to go July 18! Bad timing! I don't fall into any of the exemptions or disqualifications! I have to go! Last time I received a jury summons I was in San Francisco, but I think I was a college student or I didn't live in the right county. How come Sacramento never has summonsed me?!

    3. I heard my Governor's voice on the radio today talking about the fires in California. He has such a distinct voice; I heard his familiar voice, my ears honed in intensely, and when they said his name after the soundbite, I smiled. It was like a voice from home...from far, far away! I said in my head, "That's my Governor!!"

  • Dates of my last days of all 3 jobs

I drove home from my second job tonight thinking about how crazy it is that I have been in Texas for almost 3 years! I thought about the logistics of it all. The moving and mail process is already in place and moving forward, but the driver's license and insurance and state residency is not. I get to have my CA residency back!  The quote, "Toto, I don't think we're in Dallas anymore" came to mind as I will soon be living in South San Francisco and living in San Francisco in August. I thought about moving here for the first time August 17, 2005 too. I'll be so glad to give up my Texas DL when I go to the good ol' CA DMV! Never thought I would love and savor our DMV so much!

Here's my job-quitting schedule: Last day as a...

    Instructor's Aide: July 17.

    Researcher: July 25.

    Receptionist: July 25.

First day as a fourth grade teacher:

    August 18!

So much has happened to me for the better in the last 3 years. I wouldn't trade it! And I KNOW I would not have made this progress (personally, professionally, or spiritually) had I stayed in safe, Sacramento, though I LOVE IT THERE. I love home. Home is home, no matter where you call home.
