Uncle Victor and auntie Wenyi spoiled the kids with new summer swimsuit outfits. Katelyn couldn't wait to try them on and wanted to sleep in them. I couldn't resist and had to capture a photo of Dennis and his girls. Katelyn and Megan were able to strut in their new outfits as we hung out by the pool for the first time this year.
Also, below are some pictures of Katelyn and her favorite classmate Kylie. Katelyn attended preschool in the middle of the school year and her classmates were praying in advance for Katelyn's arrival. Thank you Kylie for your prayers and welcoming Katelyn into your class. They run around the playground holding hands shouting, "We're friends forever!" They'll probably look back at these pictures and laugh when they're older. Her other friend Isabella was worried that Katelyn would have no one to play with when she was picked up by her mother. That's how sweet her friends are. We're so thankful for her smooth transition. Anyway, thanks Susan for allowing me to have some alone time with Megan by taking Katelyn along with you to Chuck E Cheese. She had a blast and I enjoyed pampering myself too (showering and cutting my nails). Thanks!
Megan at 2 Months
Megan is 8 weeks old as of today. I would have to say that it's much easier second time around. It's probably due to the fact that nursing is going well. Thank goodness. We were sweetly surprised at Megan's two week appointment. Infants normally lose weight and gain back their birth weight at two weeks. Megan's birth weight was 6 pounds and 13 ounces. She was a whooping 8 pounds and some ounces when we first weighed her. The doctor and I were both surprised. I suggested that we change her wet diaper. However, she was still over 8 pounds. Wow, I guess she's nursing well and that my milk supply is ample. I definitely have to give credit to my mother, mother-in-law, sister and friends who have stop by to bring us food! We literally had someone either make or provide food for us everyday for the first 6 weeks. Also, thank you for the gifts, diapers and love during this time. There was no need for us go out and purchase diapers yet. Thanks again Esther, Joseph, Teresa, Victor, Wenyi, Albert, Caroline, Helen, Cathy, Patti, Rosalie, Carrie, OC Janet, Danielle, Angie, Reuben, Jen, Linda, Sharon, Janet C., Hannie, Debbie, Staci, Emily, Alex, Janet K. and Heather. We're forever grateful and blessed to have you as friends. Special thanks to my hubbie. Thanks for all your hard work providing, helping wth the kids and with chores around the house. We love you !
Megan started breaking out with baby acne exactly at one month. So sad. Doctors would instruct you to only wash with water. Katelyn had it for two months. However, Cathy told me to try Aveeno Cortisone and it did wonders! It cleared up in two days. A nurse at my obgyn's office also stated that it's fine. So try it. It really works.
Megan also started having eye contact and cooing at 5 weeks. We're really enjoying her these days. She is going about five hours at night. Her longest stretch was 6. Can't wait till she sleeps 6-8 hours consistently at night. One afternoon, I was trying to squeeze in a quick cat nap while Megan was asleep . I was bummed waking up to her cry after trying to fall asleep . Katelyn asked if I was awake as I was walking down the stairs. I nodded and stated that I was sad that I couldn't rest. She responded. "Mommy, go upstairs and rest while I take care of Megan." I was pleasantly surprised and pleased with my 3 year old . What a sweetheart . Katelyn has matured the past couple of days and loves her sister dearly. The first week of Megan's arrival was tough for her. She realized mom was either sleeping or glued to Megan nursing. She wasn't liking the fact that Mom was not available. Below is how our conversation went on the third day of Megan's arrival while I was nursing in the living room:
K: Mom, I'm sad ...
Me: Why are you sad?
K: I want Megan to go away and I want you to go away too.
Me: Katelyn, but I'm your mommy. Who's going to be your mommy?
K: I'm going to find someone else ?
Me: Like who ?
K: Like Daddy (since Dennis was spending time with her).
Me: Katelyn, I know you don't mean that. Let's not say hurtful things like that.
The next day, she stated that she was sorry and wanted us to stay. Her phrase for the first couple of weeks was, "Do you want to play with me?" Katelyn now is more understanding. I think setting aside "Katelyn time" really helped her to adjust.
So, I've been tossing and turning in bed pondering upon whether wanting a third child . It's so uplifting to think that we're done and that we can move on with our lives to travel, fellowship and do ministry . At this point, two sounds really nice. I don't know how Teresa does it with five kids. She's gone through the whole cycle of carrying a baby for 9 months, laboring, delivering, nursing and recovering three more times than I have. Wow! It really takes a special person to do this. I'm definitely not called to do so. We'll consider having a third when Megan's a bit older. It's a bit overwhelming right now.
One day we visited Chapel time for Katelyn's class presentation. She was the loudest one singing. Teachers and students would turn their heads to see who was singing so loud. Her teacher would tell us to encourage Katelyn to sing.
Katelyn gets excited when we pick her up from school and loves showing Megan to all her friends. She would yell really loud to her friends in the playground, "Hey guys, come over, my sister's here!" It's cute .
Below are some pictures of Megan at one month. Ok, I really need to start taking more pictures. She's already two months old.
Katelyn had the honor of being the flower girl. I was worried, but she did great! She held her pretty basket and waved hello to people as she was walking down the aisle.
I'm just relieved that Megan and I were able to attend the wedding. We're so happy for you guys! Angie, welcome to the family. We love you!
