| As per usual ...Another entry on the same date ... Just realised that there have been a couple of typos in my last few entries but who cares , really ? A quote from a friend of mine , " Who still reads xanga nowadays ? It is like reading other ppl ' s ICQ info . " Oh well , at least I do , occasionally . Anyway , Part II exams coming up soon , really soon and I still remember the time when I was thinking that I should relax in the first two years and work hard in my final year (s) . Seems like the first part about relaxing is going as planned and the bit about working hard is not so much though ... Should spend most of the summer in UK this year and see how it goes . JY 2008 | | |
| Just realised that the last post was exactly a year ago ... Hai ... Part IA subjects could still be " quantised " into units of A-level subjects in those days ... The amount of things that I need to learn , let ' s not say learn but just to look through , is probably the sum of all the academic work I have done over the past 5 years ... So attempted to say that I have chosen the wrong subject but I suppose every other subject would not be easy for me anyway ... Well , at least I can sit down and laugh at others for a week while they are having exams when mine are completed . A very tired Jason who woke up at 11am this morning | | |
| Got bored of revision before really starting it properly ...
A summary for the amount of work in each subject ( unit = multiple of the amount of work in a typical A-level subject , that is , excluding Advancing Physics and A-level single maths . ) :
Mathematics ( 1 )
Chemistry ( 1.5 )
Physics ( 2.5 )
Material Sciences ( 4 )
So , assuming I can still do a bit of addition , the amount of revision I need to do is equivalent to 1+1.5+2.5+4 = 9 A-levels at school . Lovely !
NB Like the scale of electronegativity , this concept is hard to justify rigorously but kinda useful !
| Watched the film Shooting Dogs tonight ...
For those of you who do not have any ideas what it is about, it is about the Rwandan genocide. In 1994, many Tutsis were murdered by their fellow Hutu, due to the usual racial conflicts. Perhaps I sound a bit too casual here, actually about 800 000 were killed in the real event, not even kids were excluded. The story itself is around a white school teacher and a white priest there, who are fictional. The scenes in the film are pretty gruesome, with people, including a few weeks old babies hacked to death by a knife almost as long as my arm. The acting in the film is also quite expressive. I think those of you who are interested would probably be looking it up or getting it from somewhere anyway, so I am not going to say too much here. Nonetheless, I think the film shows the cruelty and selfishness of human beings vividly and that sometimes, we can feel awfully helpless. At the end of the film, it shows a bit of my old school, Charterhouse, who has agreed to let the crew use it as the background (who knows how much the school has charged them). I like one of the comments about it, “This place is hard to find.” which is quite true for visitors.

Lord of the Dance by Sydney Carter
I danced in the morning When the world was begun, And I danced in the moon And the stars and the sun, And I came down from heaven And I danced on the earth, At Bethlehem I had my birth.
Dance, then, wherever you may be, I am the Lord of the Dance, said he, And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be, And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said he
I danced for the scribe And the pharisee, But they would not dance And they wouldn't follow me. I danced for the fishermen, For James and John - They came with me And the Dance went on.
Chorus
I danced on the Sabbath And I cured the lame; The holy people Said it was a shame. They whipped and they stripped And they hung me on high, And they left me there On a Cross to die.
Chorus
I danced on a Friday When the sky turned black - It's hard to dance With the devil on your back. They buried my body And they thought I'd gone, But I am the Dance, And I still go on.
Chorus
They cut me down And I leapt up high; I am the life That'll never, never die; I'll live in you If you'll live in me - I am the Lord Of the Dance, said he.
Chorus
Finally , moved back to my old room ...
