| Site Has Been MovedGosh, I didn't know that anyone would ever look at this page again. Lord knows I haven't in a while. But, I started writing my thoughts/times involving my trip to Honduras. The web address for it is jdgrose1c13.blogspot.com. Feel free to read and comment... or not... really, it's up to you. | | |
| Gosh, it's been quite a while since I wrote anything on here. Well, Columbus is a pretty good town I guess. People drive WAY too insanely (if that's a word) and are very very impatient. And even though I'd rather be working a lot closer to home, this is where the paychecks are coming from, so I figure that I oughta stay around here, right? Other than that, it's been a pretty good transition, with the help of good old Jared Kaufman. And now we've got Ben up here to keep us company as well. That's right, we'll get everyone to live up here eventually. bwahahaha.... I will admit that I miss the good old mid-Ohio valley, but I'm definitely getting use to living up here. I have to say, everyone down at Harding is being a little stuck up as of late. I mean, school starts, and you never hear from them. Tisk tisk tisk. Work has been pretty slow as of late. I'm working out at one of our new developments and people are still finding out about the location. So, there's a lot of work to be done to "get the word out" so to speak. I got to go to a hockey game last night downtown with Justin, his fiance, Jared, and Ben. That was a good time. Nothing like seeing a bunch of men being paid to basically hit each other around while skating on ice. Oh, and in case you've never been to a game and you plan on it... TAKE A COAT BECAUSE IT'S FREEEEEEEEZING!!!! Alright, well, that's enough for today. Have to pace myself you know. | | |
| I guess since I haven't done this in over a week, I oughta write something. So I'm moving up to Columbus here on Thursday morning/afternoon. My car will FINALLY be running as it should tomorrow once I can replace the mass air flow sensor which is SO easy to replace, I wish I had known that that was the problem. Grrrrr.... anyway.... Today hasn't been too productive since I need boxes to pack stuff up in and I don't have any boxes and I can't get any boxes unless I want to literally run to go get them. But most of my big stuff is ready to move. Still have to get my TV and stuff upstairs. Jeremy is NEVER allowed to touch it again though.... until he buys it off of me so I can get a better one. But anyway, I'm excited about actually having a job that pays real money and has real responsibilities that allows me to actually start my life off. Yay for me. It's not going to be the easiest thing since I'm probably not going to see anyone I know a lot of the time and I will probably have a lot of spare time on my hands. So it's going to be a lot different than what I'm use to here. I am bummed that I won't really be able to be active in the Friday night group that I helped start or the college class at Belpre that I was asked to help with... but I guess God will put me where He needs me up there. So that's my life in a nutshell at this moment. If you're up for it, I'm loading the truck up tomorrow night and leaving for Columbus Thursday morning. Come along for the fun, won't you? | | |
| Well, my interview in Columbus went well. Justin made it sound like I'd probably have to interview with the next guy up in the chain before I could get hired. So, the guy I interviewed with (Arol) said he'd call me here today or tomorrow... unless his wife has their baby. Then it would be a little later in the week. Stupid kids... just kidding. Oh, but the car that I've literally put well over $2,000 in repairs in... yeah, it decided to have ANOTHER problem when I was in Columbus. Grrr.... At least it wasn't a wreck though, right? | | |
| Alright, as it's been noted, I have only had that one blog entry. So this will be two. Wow, huh? Well, I FINALLY got an interview for an actual job. It's in Columbus, but it's money... much needed money. Other than that, not much else is going on. Our Friday night gathering has been pretty good and stable... in that people are always there. The amount tends to vary though. So, since I've had AMPLE time to read and stuff, here's something good that I forwarded out to a lot of people that I think is a good perspective on this not-so-great aspect of life. It's long, but worth the read...
The Fine Print by John Fischer
We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies. (2 Corinthians 4:8-10 NLT) These verses are what I call the fine print of the Christian life. When you sign up, you sign up for this, but unfortunately, not too many people read that far into the contract, and not enough leaders point it out. So when bad things start happening to us, we think something went wrong with our faith. Not necessarily, in fact, it's an honor to think that your faith is worthy of being tested. It's a reverse spiritual principle that nonetheless is true: we get beaten down so that Christ might rise in us. It's the whole idea God has of avoiding confusion. See, He doesn't want people confusing human power and achievement with His power and what He is achieving in and through our lives. If all Christians were super-Christians, people would be impressed
with them. As it is, God wants people to be surprised at us, not so much impressed — surprised that we can keep on believing, given what has happened to us. Surprised at us — impressed with God. That's the way it should go. It's important to know this so that the things that happen don't throw us into a tailspin. Paul wrote in the passage above that troubles, confusions, knock-downs and drag-outs, are all to be expected in a life of faith, and they are not just something to suck it up and endure, they are what will actually release the power of God in our lives. We encounter deathlike experiences so that Christ's lifelike nature may clearly be seen in us, despite what is happening. Let me try and say this again. This is not just endurance training through tough times. This is God's strategy for ministry through us. There is no other way for it to be done. His strategy is His power and strength through our weakness — His life through our death. This doesn't just happen to some Christians; it happens to us all if we desire to be effective in our faith. So don't forget the fine print today, and allow the troubles you face to springboard you into finding God's purposes even in this. He had this planned all along. It's even in the contract!
