blessings to ponder

  • If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of this world.
  • If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace, you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.
  • If you woke up this morning with more health than illness, you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.
  • If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of of torture, or the pangs of starvation, you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.
  • If you can attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death, you are more blessed than three billion people in the world.
  • If your parents are still alive and still married, you are very rare, even in the United States.
  • If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful, you are blessed because the majority can, but most do not.
  • If you can hold someone's hand, hug them or even touch them on the shoulder, you are blessed because you can offer healing touch.
  • If you can read this message, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world who cannot read at all.
1 Thess 5:18- Thank (God) in everything (no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks), for this is the will of God for you (who are) in Christ Jesus (the Revealer and Mediator of that will).

bargain

we went to target today and found these "fashion christmas trees" i have been wanting (but patiently waiting for it to go on sale) for our mantle on CLEARANCE! so, i got a $30 tree for $7 and a $15 tree for like $3 something! i love it when that happens!

i considered taking down our tree today but didn't feel ready to part with it. plus, i was feeling lazy. so, i think we decided to keep it up until valentine's day. i wonder if the hub knew i was serious? =P

on another note, we had a nice time with family in arkansas for christmas. the "elder" adults suggested we (the second generation cousins) form a sort of "club." i think they're concerned we won't keep in touch with each other as we all get older and more of us get married. so, from what i could gather, they suggested two purposes for this cousin-club: 1)to keep in touch and to 2)pay dues to support a charity/ ministry that we all agree to. as the oldest "cousin" there that day, i was nominated president. let's see what we come up with and how this plays out.

on the drive to arkansas, we were stopped eating lunch when we looked out the window of the eatery to the parking lot and were grossed out when we saw the front grill of a car with 3 small dead birds splattered on it. then, our eyes traveled down to the license plate which read, "and they shall soar on wings like eagles." hmm. not as funny today but hilarious in that moment. =)

Happy New Year!

I woke up this morning laughing as I remembered what I heard someone say yesterday. the hubs and i were in line at the post office behind this hispanic family with two little kids running around... i think everyone else in the line was caucasian. there was a lady behind us and a man behind her. They chit-chatted about how the line was moving surprisingly fast. I piped in that I agreed... They chit-chatted some more and I heard the man say to the lady behind me, "I'm always amazed when I come to the post office about seeing people from all nations com here." Then, I heard the lady say to him, "yeah, I think it's great! It's like a mini-United Nations!"

The hubs said we should've turned around to them and said, "Let's sing, 'It's a small world' together!"

I promise I'm not bitter. I understand that people learn from their experiences... and for people who live here, there's not much cultural diversity to experience. It was so funny. =P

At the foot of the cross
Where grace and suffering meet
You have shown me Your love
Through the judgment You received

And You’ve won my heart
Yes You’ve won my heart
Now I can

Trade these ashes in for beauty
And wear forgiveness like a crown
Coming to kiss the feet of mercy
I lay every burden down
At the foot of the cross

At the foot of the cross
Where I am made complete
You have given me life
Through the death You bore for me

I’m laying every burden down
I’m laying every burden down

At the Foot of the Cross
