jane austen part ii

a couple weeks ago, i went to a wedding in new york.
here's why i felt like i was in a jane austen movie.

exhibit A: the mansion

this is the view when you're standing from the mansion looking out towards the hudson.
it's hard to tell, but it's a huge hill rolling down towards the river. there were a bunch of little kids (those cute east coast kids in their cute L L Bean getup) running around the rolling down the hill*. i looked at them and wished i was wearing scrubby clothes.

*they were there the day before the wedding. during the wedding, the only outsider visitors we had were three deer.

view from down the hill. seriously, doesn't it look like darcy might come riding in from stage right?

candles during the reception. probably not so jane austen-y.

jane austen

i was in new york for a couple of days and let me tell you, i felt like i was in a jane austen movie. uh, setting wise. not the other stuff wise.

hopefully pictures to follow.

i leave you with don miller's take on p&p*

"Here's a tip I've never used: I understand you can learn a great deal about girldom by reading Pride and Prejudice, and I own a copy, but I have never read it. I tried. It was given to me by a girl with a little note inside that read: What is in this book is the heart of a woman. I am sure the heart of a woman is pure and lovely, but the first chapter of said heart is hopelessly boring. Nobody dies at all. I keep the book on my shelf because girls come into my room, sit on my couch, and eye the books on the adjacent shelf. You have a copy of Pride and Prejudice, they exclaim in a gentle sigh and smile. Yes, I saw. Yes, I do."

-Blue Like Jazz

*edited because i guess if you were reading really fast then you might think that i was saying that i could learn alot about girldom by reading p&p. and it just gets weirder if you read it thinking it's me. (ed. 7/1/08)
