  • 我談戀愛了 ...

... Ha no no not with the cow, with some kids I met on vacation.  Sandy volunteers as an English teacher at an orphanage close to her university and she took Mike, Emily and I there to hang out with them.  We had dinner with them, played UNO and did a little large group English activity ... I hope I go back, I really like them a lot.

An orphanage in Taiwan is a lot like America's foster homes, the majority of the kids have parents that are living it's just a bad home situation.  I ate dinner at the first graders table, they were a blast!  The little girl sitting next to me said "my mom and dad are divorced, and my brother died, I'm so scared of his ghost!"  Before dinner they all went to the nearby temple to worship the idols, I pray that God brings these beautiful children to know Him!

Vacation was sooooooo nice!   It was great to hang out with Mike, Emily and Sandy.  We went to an amusement park and had a little fun, Sandy and I ran into our "family" there ;)

Some of Sandy's classmates work at a mountain resort so we headed up there and stayed one night.  It was beautiful and refreshing.  Sandy's classmate took us up on the roof one night to look at the stars through a telescope.  I had never done that before!  We saw the ring around saturn so clearly it felt like I was watching a movie or looking at a picture, very cool.  Sandy is like the energizer bunny, she wore us out!  Both nights she went to take her shower and came out to find us all asleep.  Hehe Jefferies' sleep that's just a fact.

On the way back we stopped in the town where I lived the first 6 months I was here in Taiwan.  It brought back such a warm, home feel, as well as good memories.  Here's the house I used to live in, and the famous Jiji train station.

Weeeellll that's it for now ... but before I close, Laura, this picture is especially for you, I miss you and can't wait for the time we three can all hang out together again!  love you Sandy and Laura!

  • I need to eat more fish

The other day I heard that eating fish enhances brain power and gives one clear thinking ... I need to eat more fish so that I can write more coherently.

Because my fish intake is down right now I'm posting in more of a sound byte form...

    Thoughts of late:

"I think I'd rather be the one experiencing pain and loss than have to watch my friends go through it."

"What can I do, what can I say, my heart is bleeding for  you."

"I could easily list ten friend's names right now that are going through some of the most difficult things that there are in this life to go through, right now.  Is there a reason it's randomly all in the same three months?"

"God's goodness and love, warmth, peace, joy and kindness are in such stark contrast to the painful things of this world, I hope my friends can experience my God the way I know Him."

"What is laying down one's own life for a friend?... wow... it can mean that?  That never occurred to me before."

    "my students are so cute!"

"it's fun being with the kids at every school but especially ______"

    "girls are exasperating"

"my ways are not God's ways and my thoughts not His thoughts, I'm weirded out but glad I can trust Him!"

"It's so cool to be in and among these quality people that are serving, glorifying and loving God!"

"I just really like worshipping God in song."

"I love my dad and mom!"

"do other people really think I'm funny looking?!"

"am I tired or just lazy?"

"I wonder if I use this cream if my wrinkles will go away."

"aurgh why did I SAy that?"

     "I posted:)"

    Recent quotes that hit home.

"In this world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends"

"Life is pain ... anyone who says differently is selling something"

"the past is the past it is over and done and the future is yet to come, but now is a gift from God and that is why it is called the present"

  • Time marches on ...

In one of my friend's blog she wrote,

"it seems 2007 just arrived and we're already saying hello to 2008."

    Yes, YES!

I delight in the passing of time ... it's bittersweet of course, more wrinkles, more responsibility, less time and chats with old friends, but oh, wonderful new lessons, and blessings, wonderful new awareness of God's grace and, experiencing, KNOWING not just believing that He does and will always keep His promises.  He keeps His Word!  And the best part?  We can get to know Jesus better.  Are you cast down today?  Put your faith in God.  He is our hope!

         Happy New Year!

  • "what is 'mixed - egg'?"

... that's what one of my 6th grade students said to me today with a little smile on his face... I'm pretty sure translated into Chinese it is a bad name to call someone.  All the students were waiting to go home, they all must line up and be 'released' by a teacher before they can go, it's always fun to hang out with them for those few minutes.  After the majority of the kids leave, I hang out for awhile at my Wednesday school after lunch waiting for my ride.  Today a bunch of 2nd graders were trying to help me to learn how to count in Kinmenese, it's a fun language but VERY difficult for me, and my 27 year old brain! ... I always get a ride home from a lady that works at the school, she also takes a 2nd grader home named Kelly.  Every week Kelly gives me a huge smile and wave when she spots me, she's really sweet and proudly showed me the 100 she received on her test today.  ... after my ride home on the boat and bus usually taking about a half hour I chatted with some of my team and caught up on e-mail, later I'm headed to my friend's house for a language exchange, and then to the high school class Jarita teaches to help play guitar, they asked her if they could learn and sing worship songs, how cool is that?!  Well I gotta go get ready ... just wanted to give a shout out to my mom about life :)  Have a great day!
