All around the Mulberry bush or should I say tree.

Hello everyone, I want you all to know that Wayne is doing fine. He is really really sore but OK. I had only gotten a couple of scratches and some bruises. God was looking out for us. I still can't believe that little hill was big enough to flip us. We were not riding the quad very fast on the trails. Well enough of that. I wanted to post about what my Megan has been up to. Last week our mulberries started ripening. We have never used them for anything before other than just eating with a little sugar, but Megan wanted to try to make a cobbler. So I told her she could try. So she pulled out all of my cookbooks on baking. She couldn't find one that she thought would taste good with mulberries so she kinda made one up, by taking to two different recipes and combining them. It turned out really good. Wayne really liked it. Here are some pictures that I took of the berries and of Megan picking them, and one of the cobbler when it was done.

Here is a picture of the mulberry tree from underneath

14

Here is a close up of the berry just in case someone has never seen a mulberry. I don't know if they grow everywhere. They grow on mulberry trees here, not on bushes. This tree started when a bird drop a seed in a matter of speaking

 16

Here is my Megan picking the berries. She started out with the small ladder and then decided to get the big on out.

15

Here are the berry that she picked. The dark black one are really sweet and the bright red one are sour. But the ones that are little red but almost black are the best. I like to mix them up and have a little bit of all of them.

17

Here is my Megan's cobbler. doesn't it look good. She maked almost the whole thing her self.

Here is the recipe.

Take 3 cups of the berries

1 cup sugar

1 Tablespoon of cornstarch: you can use a little more if you think your berries are really juicy

Mix all of the above ingredients together, and pour into a small baking pan the size of pan used for brownies.

This is the crumb topping

1 cup packed brown sugar

2 cups flour

1 teaspoon cream of tartar

1 teaspoon of baking soda

1/4 teaspoon of salt

1 1/2 cup of margarine / butter (we used butter, I think that it taste better.)

Cut in all of the ingredients with a fork or a pastry blender. (we used a pastry blender I think it works better)

Now when it forms a bunch of small crumbs put on top of the berries and bake at 350 degrees for about 30 mins or until the topping is nice and brown, and bubbly from the berrys.

Enjoy  :o)

I can't believe that I almost died yesterday.

Yesterday Wayne and I were riding our quad on a trial that we had not been on in a long, long time. We were pretty far on the trail when we started to go up a mid size hill, next thing I know we are falling backwards. Something inside my head said fall to the side, fall to the side, and I did. The quad flipped over and landed on top of Wayne. Then some how it got pushed off of him and landed on a small tree. I still do not know how it got off of Wayne. Then the next thing I know I'm standing up and Wayne is saying where are my shoes. He was knocked clear out of his shoes. Then he says he thinks his leg is broke just under his knee. So I started thinking how in the world am I going to get him out of here. Like I said we were pretty far in on the tail, and my husband is kinda a big guy. But some how he got up, and got the quad out of the tree. I think that he might have had a rush of adrenaline that helped him do all that.  Then some how he got  it started,  We couldn't believe it started. Then we got on the quad and tried to make our way back to our truck. We had not gone five feet when a severe thunderstorm hit and hit hard. There was lighting everywhere and the rain was coming down hard. We tried to find a semi dry place under some trees, but it was coming down way to hard. We got totally soaked to the bone. I was praying the whole time that we would make it back without getting hit by lighting and without Wayne's leg being broken. While we were standing under the trees the rain was coming down so hard that it was starting to run down the hill that we were on, like a stream. So we started to worry that there would be a flash flood and at the bottom of the trail we had to go over a couple of small wooden bridges if you want to call them that. We thought that they might get washed away and we would never get back. So we got back on our quad, sopping wet and freezing, and started to ride slowly back. I forgot to say that it was really hard for Wayne to steer the quad because the handle bars were out of alignment with the wheels. The lighting was still flashing most of the ride back. Then when we where close to getting back the rain was almost done. When we finally made it back to the truck it had quit raining mostly, there was just sprinkles left. We hopped in the truck and turned on the heater and never stopped until we hit home. It never felt so good to be home. No Wayne's leg is not broken, thank the lord . We think he stove it real bad. He was trying to push the quad away from us during the fall. He still went to work today. I met him for lunch today and he told me that he feels like a semi truck ran over him. I'm just glad that the lord was with us and we are both still alive. Anything could have happen. If I would have landed about a foot over to the left Wayne and the quad would have both landed on me. Wayne said that he thinks that the metal box that we have on the front of the quad might have saved his life, by lifting up the quad just enough to protect him from all the weight of the quad. All I know is that my God was with us when it happen and all the way back to the truck. Thank you lord. All praise be to you. I'm still a little shaken from it all. But I will be OK. We had taken pictures of the upside down quad after the accident but we can't get them from Wayne's cell phone. God bless

My weekend.

My mother gave my Dad a surprise birthday party on Saturday. He was turning 70. I was a little afraid to go at first, but my parents and I have been mending things slowly. My brothers and there families were there along with all my aunts, uncles, cousins, and some family friends. I had a pretty good time. My dad is always making a joke about when he turns 70 that he was moving to Montana where Men Are Men. He is so goofy. So my mom had his cake made with Happy Birthday Myers and good luck in Montana, with a cowboy hat and some cowboy boots on the cake. It was so funny. He thought it was hilarious. My brothers came at 6:00 am that morning to pick up my dad  to go with them to a flea market for the day to sell some antiques and some old bottles, and my brother Zane was to have him back at the house no later than 5:00. I went down to my parents house around 12:30. To help my mom clean out the garage in case it rained we could all fit in the garage. And guess what, it rained. But it all worked out well, because my dad was very, very surprised. One of my aunts got him a big black cowboy hat. I had forgot my camera, so I didn't get any pictures, but Megan had taken some pictures with my mom's camera. So I will post some later. While I was there my brother Zane still had all of his stuff from the flea market in the back of his truck. We started to look at it, and in the back was a old tin box with a door with some glass in it. The door opened like a oven door. My brother told me that it was a small tin oven from the 1890's, probably made to sit on a wood burning stove, or over some very hot coals next to a fire. He had only $5 on it so I told him I wanted to buy it from him. But he said no he wanted me to just have it. So now I'm the proud owner of a small black tin box. I'm so happy. I can't wait to try to bake with it outside over a fire. I will take lots of pictures when I do bake with it. Here are some pictures of it still all dirty. I cleaned and oiled it up yesterday. It look a lot different now. There are no more cob web inside and I got most of the rust off the outside. I guess I should finish telling you about the rest of the weekend. Well on Sunday we just mainly had a cookout in the backyard with my mother-in-law, and me and Wayne got a lot of work done around here. Well I hope everyone had a great weekend also. God bless

4x4 wheeling with my honey

Yesterday me and Wayne wanted to get out of the hot hot sun because it was in the low to mid 90's here. So we decided to take a 4 wheeler ride down in to the woods. We belong to a sportsman club close to our house, they have over a thousand acres of trails. We stop by the local gas station and load up on some goodie. Like pop, chips, and of course a candy bar.  You know the three main food groups. Then we headed out to our sportsmen club, and then to the woods. I love it when it's just the two of us riding all alone in the woods. We like to stop every so often to get of the quad and just sit and talk or listen to the soft sounds of woods. We also pig out on our goody!! So here are some pictures that I took along the way.

Waynes head

This is the beginning of the trails. This was taken late in the afternoon. It was already feeling cooler.

wooded trail 1

I love this picture of the trail. The air was so refreshing down in the woods, along the creek beds.

wild roses

This is a wild rose bush. It is called a Malta flora rose bush. It was brought here along time ago. To be used as a natural fence line, but it never really work. The rose bush is very abrasive, and it ended up coming up everywhere, and I mean everywhere. You can find them in fields, in the wood, in back yards. The only time that I like the bush is when it is flowering. The smell of the flower is wonderful. All the other times it is a pain. It loves to grow along the wooded trails, so you are always fighting it, trying to push it out of your way, or trying to duck under it.

creek bed withwater fall

This is down at the creek or as we say crick haha. Isn't it beautiful along there. We got off our quad here and just sat here taking it all in.

waynie taking brake

Here is my Waynie eating his favorite chips, cheddar cheese and sour cream. please excuse the way he looks he is still in his work cloths.

our ride

Here is our chariot. I think it is a Honda Rancher. We have had it for about 5 years now. This year Wayne put the board on the rack to put my pillow on. I used to ride it with just the pillow on the metal bar rack, but my bottom can't take it anymore. This way is so so much better. He also added some foot pegs. so my feet don't just dangle. It also helps me move my weight around easier, which helps Wayne drive over uneven trails easier.

a close look at where I sit

Here is a closer look at my seat and the pegs for my feet. The bar that the pegs are attached to, also is very good for holding onto when we go up steep hills.

The woods bigger

Here is a picture of the woods around us in that area along the creek.

grassy feild2

We also went through some grassy meadows. You should have seen all the butterfly flying around there. Sorry I didn't get any pictures of them.

bottom of hill

Here is a steep hill that we love going up, and always stop at the top of. I usually have to hold on the peg bar when we go up this one.

top of the hill

This is the view from the top. I know it might not look that impressive in a picture,  but in person it takes your breath  away. We also like to stop here to take in the view.

 turtle

We found this little buddy in the middle of the trail. Wayne slammed on the brakes so hard I almost went over him. I tried to get a good picture of him, but he wouldn't come out of his shell. Wayne wanted to bring him home and make a pet out of him, but I said that we couldn't just take him out of the home that he had know all his life. So finely he agreed and the little buddy is still in his woods somewhere. My husband love things like frogs, turtles, lizards and thing.

the bridge

Here is a bridge that goes over a marshy area. It lead up to the lakes.

the pond

We always end our rides with a stop at the lakes. Here is the small lake that is only for fishing

the big lake

This is the big lake. We just love sitting at the top of this hill looking out over the lake. It alway takes my breath away, just like at the top the hill.  That was the end to our ride. Hope you all enjoyed the pictures.   God Bless
