Also the competition is a celebration of friendship and sportsmanship, not just about competition,” he said.

The annual Western Australia Little Athletics (WALA) track and field meet focuses on youths below the age of 14 and 15 years of age. Both Singapore and Malaysia traditionally sends their best youth athletes to compete against the Western Australians in the various track and field events.

(haha i can spot my face! bet you guys cant!)

actually the competition held in singapore doesnt allow you to bond as much as a team as for the competition in KL, which i went too last year, as you only know each other for two days (which are also the two days of competition), in fact two afternoons in which one afternoon you'll be competing, so there's not much time to really get to know one another. in fact though i've probably made a few friends but most of them i knew from last year's WALAA in KL. as during that we sat in bus rides together, went shopping around the wholeeee megamall(best buddies from walaa: zexin, weiying, hannah!) and went to each other's rooms and stuff. it's really a much more bonding experience if more time was given for the singapore athletes to have fun together besides just competing for the one in singapore.

nevertheless i guess i understand the situation for the one in singapore as 1. school is still going on, so ponning so much school isnt that good without a "good" reason as compared to in KL, as it includes travelling time and stuff, and 2. what's there to do together when as singaporean teens, we've more or less went around all the attractions and shopping centres, haha, in singapore?

perhaps there can be a buddy programme, like the athletes from malaysia and australia arrive a few days before their competition right, and then the committee arranges such that each singaporean athlete has at least one buddy from either malaysia and australia. and then there're activities planned so bonds are really fostered between the athletes from different countries! also when everyone gets together, you'll definitely make more friends besides the buddy/buddies you were assigned to.

#139

zomg more totally-pwned javelin results! seniors this time:

monkey: 1ST AND BROKE RECORD!!! 41m!zomgzomg.

wenqi: 4th!30m+!

carolyn: 7th, 27m+!

jiaolian's probably jumping for joy for all the javelin throwers performing so well.

it's my turn next thursday!haha.

anddddd the A girls record was like, close to 20 years old.

anyway, funfair was good though in comparison we didnt raise the most or something (we raised $236), it's still around the middle i think. nevertheless it doesnt matter, as we guys (i suppose, well i had fun!) had fun! though we had a lot of things to settle and opened the game stall slightly later, i think everyone did a good job, constructing a game twice the size of others' and making it happen. i guess on the behalf of the classs, thanks everyone for putting in so much effort, time and resources into making our funfair stall a success!

special thanks goes to those, including some from other classes, who took time to stay back yesterday to start building the game amongst ourselves, and especially those who even stayed back till quite late to help out! our efforts have not gone to waste, and without that extra help, we might have to open our funfair stall much later than we did today.

3 things i like about this funfair:

1. Pretz notebook!really expensive ($8!!!) but it's really rare (3 books for this design, and i bought one), and really special! like they use the box of the Pretz biscuit stick snack and then cut two of the sides and then somehow bind paper on the box. yep.

2. iceballs by council: cheap but really sweet and gooodddd.

3. root beer float. but it's a really small cup. reminds me of drinking A&W root beer float from the real A&W outlet in malaysia during WALAA. no, i'm not obsessed with WALAA with so many mentions about it, it just happens to pop into my mind, i.e. when i think/drink this.

but this year wasnt as good as last year, didnt seem to have much stuff to buy/eat/drink. ohwells. i dont expect a perfect funfair every year.

#138

JIAYOU 301 FOR FUNFAIR!

WE CAN DO THIS! CONGRATS.

i know i wasnt there to support you guys, and i'm so sorry for that. but i know you guys can do well without my physical and emotional support by being at the stadium (like today) ! congrats even more to carissa and so phia for breaking your PB!

jiaolian and mr lim would be so happy too!

continue to work hard, and you guys would reap more accomplishments in javelin! we will train hard together.

JIAYOU TO THE REST COMPETING!

i should feel better tomorrow, with hopefully more sleep, less stress (all sec3s are stressed, lettme assure you of that) and a long weekend with hopefully(again, hopefully) some retail therapy.

#136

emo-ish.

(jessica, snap out of it. you just won a silver medal in WALAA like, yesterday.you should still be jumping for joy<STRIKE>.)</STRIKE>

!!!

i need some cheering up. but nevermind tomorrow would be a better day. it's just a little saddening sometimes that the bare truth is: one cannot have everything, even if you might have the ability and credibtility to have it.

#135

photos later, with the photos from mr tham and sherah once i get them!

ANYWAY WALAA WAS DA BOMB <3

okay first talk about my javelin event. pretty great, threw 28.99m (PB!) and got 2nd. quite surprised as there're three aussies in my group and they're usually really good, but they still threw quite far, and there was supposed to be this quite pro malaysian thrower as well, but she was injured. get well soon! haha i lost to shawnee roberts again this year, but i dont mind as i'm really happy getting a medal already. and like last year, 1st and 3rd place were aussies while i was 2nd, and i was the shortest on the podium again. would upload photo of that next time!

then after that was hanging around and cheering for singapore! but today didnt get the chocolates and snacks i bought for competition! ohwells shared a chocolate bar with sherah!yay!

then after that it was photo taking and souvenir exchangeeeeee! we took a singapore contingent photo first, then invited the aussies and i think the malaysians to join in the group photo as well. then it got quite rowdy and people started pushing each other down and stuff. i hope no one was injured, with nationals starting in a day's time and some of the people would be competing in those events. well got squashed too but no injuries.

after that took photos, signatures and stuff! so sad, didn't take photos with some aussies as i thought it would look scandalous, but thinking back i should have just taken a photo with them. after all it's my last year in WALAA(time passes so fast!) and wont get to meet such a fun bunch of people across borders! oh wells. but took more photos with aussie girls i didnt know too, but didn't manage to take with any malaysian athletes.

this year we didn't have much souvenirs given to us to exchange, and only had one set of everything(i.e. shirt, jersey etc.) so not much to exchange. soooo i bought some stuff on my own! helped quite a bit though i overbought in the end. nvm next time hopefully can go ASEAN SCHOOLS(!!!)(PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE???), got three more years to try for it! and then can exchange more souvenirs i guess. this year exchanged and got an Australian cap and jacket(really pretty! gonna wear it when i go out!), and a Malaysian shirt. and a small kangaroo plushie. zexin exchanged one of her jackets or something quite "valuable" in the system of souvenir-exchaning for a HUGE kangaroo soft toy! it would be in the pictures taken when i upload them sometime later. though this year didnt exchange that much, did manage to interact more with the athletes from other countries(typed schools actually, HAHA) and signed on their shirts and bags(haha yes, BAGS) and got them to sign on my address book as well and got some of their contact details!awww shucks one otehr regret besides not taking enough photos was didnt take enough contact details! nevermind i shall work hard for a "next time" to experience such fun times once again.

went home quite late, reached home at 10 actually. still have homework to do for tomorrow, but nevermind have to post this or like probably wouldnt be able to record down the whole experience today and overall the whole 16th WALAA experience and the aftermath! took MRT to causeway point(bus to MRT took super long to come ) and ate at my uncle's food court branch. he has another food court branch and a proper restaurant, at jurong point and east point mall respectively.
