  • Looking for a Photography Team Member for Milwaukee FIlm Festival

     Hi all!

I am the Photography and Videography coordinator for the MIlwaukee FIlm Festival which runs from September 22- October 2 this year. (www.milwaukee-film.org). This festival is one of my favorite events of the year!

I searching for one more member to add to my team of photographers that will cover the festival, which includes events at Discovery World, and the Oriental Movie theater, as well as a few other theaters to be determined.

    Coverage includes:
    - Coverage of special events during the festival, such as visiting directors, actors, etc (Susan Sarandon was here last year), Opening night at Discovery World, etc
    - Wide, medium, and close up shots of each of the theaters and patrons during the festival event
    - Some posed shots

    This experienced photographer should:
    Have their own professional equipment
    Have experience with event photography
Be competent in shooting in a variety of lighting situations
    Have a creative eye
    Be a people person

Some days of the festival will have more coverage needs than other days. That being said, I do need someone who is available for both of the weekends that fall within the dates mentioned above, especially Sept 24 and Oct 1.

I will be creating a schedule prior to the event that will be hosted online for the photography team.

We will be having a meeting within the two weeks prior to the festival to go over all the details.

Photographer is responsible for shooting only. Photographers are responsible for dropping off their files to me each day after they are scheduled to shoot. I will be in the offices during the day processing and organizing files.

Photographer will be paid hourly. I am finalizing the details, but pay will be between $75hour and a Film Festival Pass (worth $300).

Please contact me at 414.350.8943 or email me at jessica.y.kaminski@gmail.com. I will need to see samples of your work.

  • Gallery Talk at MIAD Perspectives Gallery March 24th

    The Home Project: Part One

Please join me for my gallery talk tomorrow at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design as I discuss my in-progress project.

When: Thursday, March 24th at 1:00pm-2:00pm

Where: Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design Perspectives Gallery (Second Floor, Photography Department)

    273 E. Erie St. Milwaukee, WI 53202

    About the Project:

The Home Project is an in-progress collaboration between myself and Jennifer Johung, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Art History at the University of Wisconsin (www.johung.com). Johung is publishing a book entitled “Replacing Home’ which addresses the changing definition and experience of place.

When I stopped to think about a word as vernacular as home, I realized that it’s rich with meaning. I thought about what a home is, and what that word really means, and discovered that it was impossible to truly define. During conversations with others, the definition continued to change and expand, depending on whom I was speaking with. This is when I became interested in the concept of home as a subject matter.

I was inspired to express my thoughts on home through conceptual garments. The garments and the photographs can speak to the emotional and intangible ideas I have.

Johung is originally from California. This garment and series of photographs speak to a number of issues: feeling out of place, the contrast between West Coast garments and Midwest weather, the fragility and beauty of temporary locations, and being torn between two different homes.

I developed a way to print Johung’s book onto the tissue.  With the help of fashion designer Laddhavan Sutana (www.sutana.com), I designed and created a dress made out of Kleenex tissue. It seemed appropriate to have Johung wear her book, which is one of the reasons that brought her to Milwaukee and landed her a job at UWM. However, since the nature of academic careers can be unstable, I made the dress out of a material that appears beautiful, but is not sustainable.

I see this as a dyptch project, with the second half commencing in California. I have designed a knitwear piece that I will be producing with Sutana. The piece will reference the concept of a cacoon, which speaks to the comfort that we can feel in a home, and perhaps, the fear of change.

We are currently raising funds to bring the second half of this project to fruition.

  • InStyle Australia!

I’ve been working with Stag Barbershop owner, Jess Stern on photographs that feature her, her business, and also the products that she carries. One of the companies she works with is called Lock, Stock, and Barrel (http://www.groomingmen.com).

Recently InStyle Australia featured an article on Lock, Stock, and Barrel that incorporated one of our photographs! (Ours is the photo on the left)

Jess and I also traveled to Los Angeles and met Matt Ruggieri, owner of The Motley (http://www.themotley.com) which is an online store for men’s grooming products. He was really awesome to meet, and showed us some of the new products he’s carrying, which included some black soap from Japan. Jess gave him a haircut while we were there and I was pretty amazed at the transformation!

Check out the book that showcases my photographs and Stag Barbershop:

  • Headshots Party! March 27th, and April 3rd

“As a result of my weekend in De Pere for AACTfest, I received a lot of inquiries regarding headshots. So I decided that it would be fun to host two full days in a studio dedicated just to this need! I wanted to make it easy for people, but also provide a fun atmosphere. Who knows…maybe some networking could occur? Or improv games?  ;)” - Jessica Kaminski

  • Katie and Jason

So what do you do when you finally get everyone’s schedules to coincide for a portrait session, and then on the agreed upon day, it ends up being 10 degrees outside?

Well, after meeting for coffee at the Alterra in the fifth ward, I decided to take Katie and Jason to another favorite place of mine: Riverview Antique Market (http://www.riverviewantiquemarket.com).

I love antiquing. And you know what? Maybe that makes me sound elderly. But I have to tell you: it’s pretty cool. And you might just have to trust me on it.

It’s like when I tell people I’ve been making dresses out of Kleenex and horrible kindergarten school projects come to mind, and then I show them a photo of what I’ve done and they’re like…”OH! Wow!”

Or if it’s really cold outside and I suggest taking photographs in an antique market. You, the reader, might furrow your brow as images of stale cookies and dust come to mind. But I am here, not only to tell you that this is absolutely not so, but I can even SHOW you!

    Behold:

Thanks to Katie and Jason for being so much fun to hang around with and photograph!!

  • Ella Manor Is The Lady Gaga Of Photography

Ella Manor Is The Lady Gaga Of Photography
TUESDAY, JANUARY 18, 2011 POSTED IN FASHION on www.fstoppers.com

“Ella Manor is a fashion photographer based out of New York City who approaches her photography in a rather unorthodox manner. Much of her work combines beautiful models and extravagant clothing with dreamy camera effects and often times double exposures. Her hybrid style lends itself to the unpredictable nature of Lensbaby lenses so much so that she has been labeled a “Photo Guru” by the lens company themselves. This video showcases her latest photo essay Power House and explains how she approaches her photography from both a technical aspect and also a visionary aspect. I can’t say I’ve ever seen anything quite like this before but judging from the images on her website I think I like what I see.”
