here is my FAQ's post again (a more recent updated version), b/c i still get asked the following questions the most, from EVERYONE over and over
again. and while i don't presume that you would take the time to read
or remember what is to follow, maybe it might help in the fight for my sanity. ;P jk. you can ask... but i might just give you this link instead of answering. hahaha. i'm a dork, this i know.
Q: What exactly are you doing in Australia? A: I moved here in June 2007 to study at Hillsong International Leadership College or Hillsong College for short. It's
a Bible college, not a graduate program or really an undergrad school.
It is a vocational school that equips us, more than anything, to be
leaders while you learn in the context of classrooms and hands-on
practical application by serving in Hillsong Church. I urge you to go to www.hillsong.com/college for more.
Q: Where do you live? A: I live in Baulkham Hills, which is a city just NW of Sydney and live about 5 mins walking distance from the school and church. I'm in a house with fellow students. There are no dorms for Hillsong students.
Q: What are you studying? A: I'm in the Worship Creative Arts (aka WCA) stream, and I'm a vocal major.
Q: What kind of classes do you take? A: Anything from Doctrine to Evangelism to Leadership to Communication to vocal lessons to performance skills to music analysis to songwriting.
Q: What does your typical week consist of? A: Classes 4 days/week + weekly ministry and weekend ministry fieldwork and church life. My weekly ministry is working in the the office for the project manager for the albums. My weekend ministry is being on Saturday night and Thursday morning (Hillsong Women) choir. My fieldwork (formerly known as my weekly ministry) is interning in the office for the project manager for the albums. My main role is to oversee the subtitle translations teams for the DVD's, some guest relations things, and other general office work. My church life (formerly known as weekend ministry) is serving on the weekends in the Hillsong Resource Center. And I am on the Hillsong Sisterhood choir - I am stepping into a new role of Choir Director this term, which is a total honor and nothing I ever would've foreseen but am sooo pumped about. I still lead vocal warm-ups and conduct from time to time as well. I love the Sisterhood choir!!! I also have the privilege of singing on one of the amazing Espresso teams. Espresso's are like mini-30 minute chapel times with worship, praying, teaching, and announcements. GO ESPRESSOS!!! Q: How long is your program? A:
1-3 years. You can choose as you go. Most students do 1 year and then
go back to their respective homes or churches. But you can do up to 3
years, depending on what stream you're in, and my stream WCA does go up
to 3 years. *I'm at the start of my 2nd year, which began in late July 2008.
Q: How long do you think you'll be there? A: I don't know. I really don't know. At least 2 years of school. I still don't know how long I will be here. Please don't ask me this question, b/c I genuinely do not know. HA!
Q: How is the weather? A: We have 4 seasons with very hot summers and mild to cold winters. The seasons are opposite of the Northern Hemisphere. It will always be the opposite of the Northern Hemisphere. And it's not weird except for when it comes time for Christmas.
Q: What do you miss the most about America? A:
The convenience of getting to/from things (no car here), the
convenience of shopping at late hours (all retail places close around
5PM. yes. it's true, except late night shopping on thursdays, where
retail places close at 9PM), the better/lower prices, the food, and of
course the people (friends and family)
Q: When do you think you'll be back in the States to at least visit? A: Hopefully this December (2008).
Q: Does the toilet flush in the opposite direction? A: Probably, but I've never watched to find out. But this I know: most toilets here have 2 buttons. One for a light flush and one for a big flush. AUS is a very envirtonmentally friendly country.
Q: Will you be attending the Australian Open while you are in Australia? A: OH GOD, I HOPE SO!!!!!!!!!
Q: Have you been to the Outback, the Great Barrier Reef, the Goldcoast, or anywhere outside of Sydney. A: Not yet.
Q: Have you tried Vegemite? A: Yes.
Q: Will you try it ever again? A: Most assuredly, probably not. HA!
Q: Have you seen kangaroos, koalas, dingos, wombats, and other such creatures? A: Yes, but not in the wild, only at Featherdale National Park.
Q: What is the time difference? A: 14 hours ahead of East Coast time during this half of the year. When it hits daylight savings, we will be 16 hours ahead. But for now... 14.
In a few weeks (here) and in about a month 1/2 internationally, including the States, Hillsong will release their latest live album entitled THIS IS OUR GOD. Here is a clip from the upcoming DVD.
