We raised a little more than $45,000 for ovarian cancer research. I did good on answering my question and wasn't too nervous once I was on the stage. Phew! Stefan stayed home with Luke and they had fun doing boy stuff. They ordered some wings and watched movies. Ha! Nice daddy and son time =) I posted some pics from the event of Facebook but I know a lot of family and friends don't have Facebook so here ya go =)

Getting ready to go with my big belly at 24 weeks!!!

The cute logo

The stage

EE ladies in the locker room. Now our record is now 8-6. Stefan didn't get any playing time and yes I got a little bored and sleepy. They have now provided the wives and kids a room to watch the games from which is really really nice! I brought Luke to the sitter last night and I am soooo happy he was a good boy! I think it is good for him to get away from us a few hours every so often. Although I will probably bring Luke to the last 2 games. He should have a good time just running around and eating all of the snacks they provide. Ha! But I think he really enjoys going to Lindsay's because Connor is close to his age and Elijah is reallly sweet to Luke. Plus Lindsays baby is now 7 months and Luke actually shared toys with him and kissed him good night last night. That's a shocker! Ha! The next home game is on Friday the 17th and Stefan and I are going to a hockey game on the 18th. So, I will probably bring Luke to the game on the 17th and to Lindsay's on the 18th. Then, our last home game is on Halloween so I don't want Lindsay feeling overwhelmed trick or treating with 4 kids! Plus everyone is bringing their kids dressed up to the game. Luke will probably be a football player. Ha =) I have no idea why I just shared my babysitting plans with yall but there they are.

Well, Luke is knocked out next to me and I am sleepy myself. It is cold and rainy out. Yuck! We will probably just hang out at home and watch some football. Stefan is off today and he flies out on Thursday to Vancouver. We play B.C. on Friday night.

Hope yall have a GREAT Sunday!!! Can't wait to see everyone soon...WOOHOO =)

XOXO,

Joy and The Boys

Thursday, October 02, 2008

Tonight is the second annual Edmonton Eskimo's Womens Dinner. It is a dinner to raise money for Ovarian Cancer. It should be a great time just like last year.

Well, this year the head coaches wife asked me and two other players wives to go on stage and answer a question. We have to answer this question in front of 600 other women. Lovely! I HATE speaking in front of people.I know, I am a Communications major and should be ok with it. That's what Stefan keeps telling me. But I am not ok. Ha! Put me in front of a TV camera and I am fine. I don't mind the camera one bit. I can't see all of those people staring back at me. Ha! Anyways, it shouldn't be too too bad because I know the question before I get up there. The questions is what is my most memorable football moment? Now that is a tough question because I have sooo many memorable moments of Stefan and football. My honest answer is this but there is no way I would say this in front of the ladies tonight. Just not right! Plus this answer is wayyyy too long! Haha!

By far my most memorable football moment is when Stefan got drafted in the 4th round to the Carolina Panthers. Pick #121 to be exact! And I remember that alll by myself thank you very much =) That was just an exciting time! I remember other players having draft parties or flying home to be with family. But we decided we wanted it to be just the two of us...and neither of us would go back and trade that moment. It was just less stressful. We decided we would just stay holed up in our tiny little apartment until we knew something. I remember us laying in bed for two days straight with a note pad and on it we had written out every team and their pick. We would scratch off teams one by one and the ones we knew wouldn't be picking a QB. I remember Stefan's phone ringing in the first round and it saying unknown. We were like WHAT!?! I seriously thought it was a team saying they were about to pick him....but it was just the newspaper calling to interview him. Haha! Of course I thought Stefan should have been picked in the first round but he wasn't. Whatever! Anyways, when Stefan's phone rang in the 4th round and we saw it was Carolinas pick we both looked at each other with HUGE eyes. We didn't want to get too excited in case it was the newspaper calling back. It said unknown again. When he answered the phone I saw a BIG grin on his face and by this time I am standing on the bed signing who is it??? When he signed Coach Fox of Carolina I was freaking out. Then I looked at the the TV and there on the screen is pick #121 STEFAN LEFORS to the CAROLINA PANTHERS! I about had a heart attack! When he hung up the phone we were literally like 2 kids. We were jumping up and down on the bed and running in circles in our apartment. After running around and screaming and having our moment he went talk to his family on the computer and I was still screaming my head off with my fam on the phone. Our poor neighbors. Ha! By this time we were SOOOO ready to get out of the apartment. We got dressed and went celebrate by having a yummy dinner at our favorite place Q'Doba. Ha! It was sooo good! Probably the best burrito I have ever eaten. Then, we headed to our friends the Vogts to celebrate with them.

So, that would be my most memorable moment but I will just share that with yall. Tonight I will probably just say when Stefan started his first college football game. It really was a memorable moment. He had waited so patiently and worked so hard for 3 years for that moment. Then, there was an hour rain delay and we thought the game was going to be called of due to lightning. I was like NOOOO! We have waited toooo long for this moment. But thankfully he got his start and his first WIN! What another exciting moment!

I also loved loved these moments....

Every time Stefan would score he would sign ILY to me! And when he started last year and they would introduce him as the starting QB at the games he would run out with his ILY in the air to me. AWWW =)

LOVED this moment when we won the Liberty Bowl in 2004. I was like I HAVE to get on the field somehow and find Stefan. I yelled and got the media guys attention and he told security to let me down and I ran and found my Fon...MWAH =)

Oh yeah, and the time Stefan played Tulane in New Orleans and we had shirts and signs made. Sooo many family and friends came out and it was one game we will never forget! Sorry that the pic is so small. It is from the newspaper. And our signs say We ♥ #17! My sign says I ♥ #17 and I made mine pretty with glitter. Ha!

Stefan's first pre-season game against the Redskins is one I will never forget. He played awesome! He threw two TD's in that game and I was so proud of him...like always =)

So these are just a FEW of my most memorable football moments. I have many many more but it would take forever to type them all out. Hope yall enjoyed this post. I had to get some of my nerves out before tonight. I wish I could just print this out and have everyone read it tonight. Ha!

Hope yall have a good day! I am off to get all dressed up =)

XOXO,

Joy and The Boys

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

LeFors signs, seals, delivers

Eskimos backup QB grew up as only non-hearing-impaired member in family of four

John Korobanik , edmontonjournal.com

Published: Tuesday, September 30, 2008

EDMONTON - Stefan LeFors spent about an hour Monday morning communicating with young students and neither he, nor the 60 to 80 students, spoke a single word. Their communication was strictly by sign language.

The backup quarterback for the CFL's Edmonton Eskimos was at the Alberta School for the Deaf to promote the ComFree Stay in School Program, the first Eskimo to visit the school as part of the program.

"Coming here and speaking to the deaf is very important to me because of my family background," he said. "Both of my parents are deaf, my brother is deaf and grandparents and aunts and uncles are deaf. So it hits home to come to a place like this and be able to relate to the kids in some sort of way and be to able to sign to them."

Stefan LeFors, backup quarterback for the Edmonton Eskimos, talks to students using sign language at the Alberta School for the Deaf on Sept. 29

John Lucas/Edmonton Journal

LeFors grew up as the only non-hearing impaired member of a family of four. His dad was born 100-per-cent deaf and his mother and one older brother lost a significant amount of hearing because of bad ear infections and high fevers. Because of that, signing was the first language LeFors learned.

Learning to speak verbally was a little difficult, but his mom and brother could speak a little bit and that helped, along with interactions with those outside the family.

It was an early life lesson that probably helped him deal with the various frustrations along the path to adulthood and for his current role of being a backup quarterback. He's seen the game field this year for only a handful of plays in the Eskimos' season-opening loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Last year, the 27-year-old Baton Rouge, La., native played the final five games after starter Ricky Ray separated his shoulder, putting up some impressive individual statistics, marred by turnovers and the team's inability to win a single game under his leadership.

Still, he says, it was a good experience.

"It's a good experience anytime, as a rookie in a new league, to get that experience, real game action. The speed of the game picks up tremendously from practice to a real game. You just learn the ins and outs of what the CFL is all about.

"Obviously, the results weren't what we wanted, but at the same time you still learn from that, you learn from the good things and the bad things."

The good things -- 110 pass completions in 181 attempts for 1,193 yards and six touchdowns; being named offensive player of the week for setting Eskimo season-highs in attempts, completions and yards, 34 of 48 for 412 yards, against Saskatchewan.

The bad things -- eight interceptions and five fumbles.

"I had a lot of turnovers, which didn't help our cause in winning games and that's what it all comes down to, protecting the football and scoring points. We didn't do that well enough to win games."

The Eskimos lost their last six games to miss the playoffs and LeFors still doesn't have a professional win to his credit. But he doesn't regret anything that happened last year, partly because it should have the team better prepared for the final run this season and better equipped to handle similar injuries to major players.

"Some of the players we have this year are just more explosive," he says in explaining why the team is better in 2008. "Some of the young guys from last year -- we had a lot of new faces last year, so it's the second time around -- have a better understanding of what it takes and what things are there for them to take."

What is not there for LeFors to take is the starting role at quarterback. That's Ray's spot and with the team fighting to make the playoffs, coach Danny Maciocia is going to ride him until he can't go anymore. Which makes it all the more difficult a situation for a backup if he has to take over.

"It's hard because you're not getting any action with the offence, you're not in the huddle with them understanding what's going on, you're not getting on-field reps. You see it on the board and in the playbook, but until you actually get those reps in real action it'll be tough to come in cold off the bench. But that's what we get paid for, to stay mentally prepared and ready if the time ever does come."

One of the biggest things is communication, or in this case, no matter what language is being used, the lack of it.

"(Receivers) coach (Mike) Kelly says it's the unspoken communication between the quarterback and the receivers, just to have that understanding between one another is so vital."

Kind of like the understanding LeFors and his family had when he was growing up, knowing that their only real way of communication was through signing.

jkorobanik@thejournal.canwest.com

© Edmonton Journal 2008

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

Luke and I went with Stefan this morning to the Alberta School for the Deaf. Stefan did a GREAT job and of course all of the kids loved him =) It ws fun meeting new people and signing with them. I met one lady who knows Stefan's Uncle Nick and Aunt Peggy. I'm sorry, but I couldn't tell you her name =) Luke had fun and was giving high fives to the students. He even got on the news with Stefan. We just watched the news not long ago and Luke was sooo CUTE! He was signing with his daddy and signed light, water and basketball. Even the sports caster said he was pretty cute eh! Ha! I am hoping to get a copy of the video. Anyways, this article was posted on Esks.com. I am waiting to get some pictures from the media lady. Once I get them I will blog again.

LeFors visits Alberta School for the Deaf

9/29/2008

(Edmonton) Eskimo quarterback Stefan LeFors visited the Alberta School for the Deaf on Monday morning as part of the Eskimo ComFree Stay in School program. LeFors grew up in a family four as the only member who was not hearing impaired. Sign language was the first language Stefan learned.

“Coming here and speaking to the deaf is very important to me because of my family background,” says LeFors. “Both of my parents are deaf, my brother is deaf and grandparents and aunts and uncles are deaf. So it hits home to come to a place like this and be able to relate to the kids in some sort of way and to be able to sign to them. I’m sure they have speakers come in who speak and have an interpreter, but I don’t think it’s the same. I don’t think it hits home to these kids. I can actually come in here and speak their language.”

LeFors communicated to the students the importance of education and getting good grades, having respect for yourself and others and keeping your priorities in order. The kids then asked lots of questions – wanting to know about Stefan’s life growing up, his favourite subject in school and, of course, his football career.

LeFors enjoyed answering all the diverse questions. “I tried to tie in a lot of the messages to the importance of school and doing homework and studying. I made it a point to say to keep your priorities in the right order and for me it was always school first and then sports behind that, so I think it was good for them to hear that.”

Have a GREAT night =)

XOXO,

Joy and The Boys

Saturday, September 27, 2008

Soooo we have now lost our last two games. Our record is now 7-5. I have no idea what's going on with this team but we don't look like we did at the beginning of the year. Sorry I haven't been blogging about our games. Stefan isn't playing at all. Grrrrr! At least he is staying healthy =) As of now we have 5 games left. After that we will see if we make the play offs. If we don't we are coming home....WOOHOO! We can't wait to get out of this one bedroom apartment and get back to our house and have some space. Ahhhh, it will be great! We will start going through all of our things soon and decide what we will sell or give away. Then, next year we will just come up here with our suit cases =)

Luke and I have been spending a lot of time at the park lately while Stefan is at practice and away at games. It has been great cardio for me chasing him around. Ha! Luke has a new favorite word which is NO and it is very annoying. Well, at first it was kind of cute and funny but that lasted for about an hour and I was like enough! We are trying to teach him to say "Yes Ma'am", "Yes Sir", "No Ma'am" and "No Sir". Stefan and I are BIG on teaching him his manners. He is getting pretty good at please and thank you. He doesn't like changing his diaper or clothes anymore. He just wants to play in his diaper all day with no clothes on. My mom gave me the idea of when we tell Luke it's time to change his diaper and he tells us no, to tell him to say "Yes Ma'am" and give him a reward. I thought I would try it while Stefan was out of town because I was so sick of hearing NO! Well, I decided to give him an M&M when he would say "Yes Ma'am". It started out wonderfully. I would tell him we needed to change his diaper and he would say "Ma'am", run to his changing mat and sign candy. Then, he started running to his mat and trying to steal the M&M out of my hand and run off before I could change his diaper. Sneaky sneaky! At least I am not hearing NO so much anymore...just seeing him sign candy a whole lot more =)

Stefan flew in after the game at 2AM and he is off for the next few days. We are not sure what we will do. This morning we woke up and it was 40 degrees out. BRRRR! This week there is an EE women's dinner to raise money for ovarian cancer. We did the same thing last year. Wednesday night I will go and stuff goody bags for all of the ladies and Thursday is the event. Last year I think we raised $35,000. Hopefully it will be a big success again this year!

Here are some pictures of Luke....Enjoy!

On Sunday I was listening and watching Healing Place Church online with my headphones on. Well, Luke decided he wanted to do the same with his movie Nemo.

Luke came into the kitchen these things on his ankles. It is supposed to be some kind of flying ring a man invented in our apartment complex and gave them to Stefan. I guess Luke thought it was more fun on his ankles than throwing around. Ha! And of course he found my cleaning supplies and my sponge =)

We went to the bookstore one day to play with Thomas the Train and Luke wanted to RUN home....and he ran in the grass allllll the way home!

We found his skunk costume from last year and tried it on. To hear professional athletes talk about the importance of school and how it will affect their futures makes a difference in children’s lives. The Eskimos visit several schools all over Edmonton and surrounding areas over the course of a school year. The visit is usually a big event for each school, held in gymnasiums full of cheering and excitement.

It is not every day, however, that an Eskimo player is able to visit the Alberta School for the Deaf and be able to communicate to the students the Stay in School values. Eskimo quarterback Stefan LeFors grew up in a family of four as the only non-hearing impaired member. “My dad is 100% deaf. He was born deaf all the way. My mom and my brother were both born hearing fine. They both had real bad ear infections with high fevers and lost a significant amount of their hearing.” Because of his situation, sign language was the first language Stefan knew.

On Monday, September 29th, Stefan will be participating in the ComFree Stay in School Program at the Alberta School for the Deaf. “I am very excited to take the Stay in School Program to the Alberta School for the Deaf,” says LeFors. “It’s important for all students, hearing impaired and not, to have the support of their communities and programs like this.” Stefan’s visit marks the first time an Eskimo has been able to visit the school.

"I know our students will love to see an Eskimo player who can sign," says Sandra Mason, the Principal of the Alberta School for the Deaf. "We are so excited for Stefan's visit on Monday."

Wednesday, September 17, 2008

I know it has been really long since I blogged. Can't believe I will already be 22 weeks pregnant on Thursday. It is flying bye. Then in 3 months Luke will be 2 and then Christmas. I also can't wait for Christmas. I will probably pull out my music pretty soon =)

Stefan's last game was on the 13th. I had to end up staying home because my back was killing me. Actually, it's my sciatic nerve. It is soooo painful! I had the same problem with Luke and it was horrible. Even putting heat and ice on it wouldn't help. It lasted for a month with Luke. This time around it has been a week and it is starting to feel better. I am just praying it doesn't come back. It was so bad with Luke I couldn't get in bed by myself. Stefan would have to pick me up and throw (not really) me. Ha! Anyways, my point is I stayed home with Luke and we watched the game together on T.V. Stefan didn't play and as you all know I get pretty bored. But since my back was hurting so much I had to SIT and watch the game. It was a pretty crazy game that went back and forth alll the way until the end. But in the end we got the win and we are now 7-4. Not too bad!

The weather here has been BEAUTIFUL! I mean amazing! Stefan had off Sunday and Monday so we tried to play with Luke outside as much as possible before it gets too cold. Well, I couldn't do much because of my back so it was nice dad was there to play with Luke. Luke loves loves loves being outside. I can't wait to get home and he can just go out the back door and play. I know he will love that. Yesterday was my birthday and I turned 28. I know, I am getting old. Luke went to the sitters house while I had to go to the Dr. Of course, he cried at first but ended up having sooo much fun! Thanks Lindsay =) I got lost on my way to the Dr. thanks to OnStar. I was wayyyy on the East side of town when my appointment was on the West side. Geez! I was 30 minutes late but the Dr. still saw me. Got weighed, went over my blood work and ultra sound and I was done. It only took about 10 minutes but she said everything looks good and I have another appointment in 4 weeks. I have no clue why. When I went to pick up Luke he was playing outside with Lindsay's boys and he wanted to stay. Ha! We then went and got Stefan from practice and we picked up my birthday dinner from The Keg. Yummmmy! We had steaks, twice baked potatoes, asparagus, shrimp and spinach dip and blueberry cheesecake. Soooo good!

I had such a busy day on my birthday that I was exhausted when we got home. I was literally in bed by 7:30. I was pooped! I tried to stay up and watch the finale of Big Brother 10 but I fell asleep right before it came on. I thought it would come on at 8....nope! Stayed up until 9 and it still wasn't on. It didn't play here until 10! Oh well! I guess I will catch it online sometime. But I already made Stefan tell me who won =)

Stefan leaves for Montreal on Friday. They play there on Sunday at 11 Mountain Time. Not sure what Luke and I will do. I think it is supposed to start getting chilly on Saturday so I may take Luke to Gymboree and sign him up. I think he would like it there =) Here are some pictures and hope yall enjoy:

Stefan got me a Cannon digital camera for my birthday. Well, I actually got it before we went to Banff and I LOVE it. I decided to try out the zoom at one of his games and it works really good. This is Stefan with the kicker after an extra point.

<IMG style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 0px; The baby looks great! Yay for girls =) The reason why she thinks it's a girl is because the baby stayed on her tummy for the full hour. She would not roll over. What she could tell from the bum side, it was a girl. But she wasn't 100% sure so I have to wait to go shopping. Darn! I really wanna go shopping for some cute girl clothes. Ha!

My parents flew out this morning to go back home =( We had such a good time with them. My dad made us a HUGE pot of gumbo while they were here which was delish! We froze a good bit of it so we can have it again when it gets really cold. We hung out, brought Luke to the park, walked to the bookstore for Luke to play with Thomas the Train and went out to dinner a few nights. Stefan and I had a double date with them on Saturday night which was nice. Thanks to my sitter Lindsay for watching Luke. We went to dinner and the casino. It was such a nice time. On Friday was our home football game against Calgary. It was such a GOOD game even though we lost. The final score was 38 to 33. Such a close one. Now our record is 6-4.

Luke was loving all of my parents attention. He woke up this morning signing Honey and Poppy. I think he already misses them. They will get in tonight and they just got their electricity the other day. Good timing! Hopefully Ike isn't headed that way. We are praying it goes away! All of our family was safe. Just lost electricity. Most of our family has their electricity back on now but not everyone. Thanks to everyone who went by our house before and after Gustav to check on it. We appreciate it sooo much!

Stefan has off today so we are all just hanging out. It is cold and overcast outside. I am really enjoying this nice chilly weather. Not too cold...yet! Ha! Well, I am off to look up girl names....even though I already have a few in mind. Hope everyone is doing great =)

XOXO,

Joy and The Boys

P.S. We are praying for everyone's safety and that it won't be as strong as they think. If anyone wants to travel up NORTH and stay with us, we would be more than happy to have you =)

Not much new with us. Just tracking Hurricane Gustav and hoping it goes awayyyy! My brother Zach and his family live in Gulfport and they lost their house during Katrina. We are praying that no one has to go through that. My parents have been on a cruise in Alaska and they will fly here tomorrow. We can't wait to see them! They will stay with us for about 8 days. Glad they are coming here instead of going home. Can't wait to hear all about their trip.

Luke learned a new sign from me and it is now his favorite sign. He loves loves loves to sign chocolate now. Ha! We gave him some chocolate pudding for the first time the other night and that is all he wants. Geez! Stefan said, "Way to go Joy!"

I have a video of him eating some pudding but it won't download right now for some reason. I will try again later. We ask him if he is done and he will say more. I am still trying to get him on video playing basketball but it still isn't going so well. He will just stop and sit on his ball. Haha!

Luke also got a hair cut and looks like a BIG boy. And here are two pics in his favorite hat and how he likes to wear it now =)

One more important thing.........

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. Yippee! I ended up bringing Luke to the sitter and froze my little booty off. It was so cold at the game. It was a good game but I just can't get into it when Stefan isn't playing. But he did really good holding for the kicker and our team looks really good. Stefan has off until Wednesday which is really really nice! Today we took Luke to the park because the weather was amazing. The high was 74. Beautiful! Stefan went to play golf with some players while Luke and I picked up and tried to organize all of the clutter. Not much space to put things in a one bedroom apartment. We are thinking about selling or just giving away stuff instead of putting things into storage when the season is over. That way next year we can just rent a furnished apartment or condo. We both think that would be soooo much easier. Especially since it is his last year on his contract and you never know what can happen is this crazy profession. I was thinking what the heck would I do with all of this stuff if for some reason he got traded in the middle of the season? He would be off to another city while I would be left here with Luke and all of our lovely things. Ha! Soooo, if we have a furnished place all we have to do is pack up our clothes and get out of here. I think that sounds great =)

I went to my first doctor's appointment on Wednesday. I just saw a family Dr. to make sure everything was ok. Someone told me I could see a family Dr. throughout my whole pregnancy here. They said that the family Dr. can do an ultrasound and everything in there office just like an obgyn. I thought that was fantastic! But they were wrong. I did find out that I am 18 weeks and I got to the hear the heartbeat. Yay! That's the good news. But I still don't think that I am 18 weeks. For some reason I don't think I am that far along. At the Dr.'s office I found out that I have to have a referrral to go and get blood taken and for an ultra sound. I had to call and make an appointment to get my blood taken at a clinic which is on Tuesday. Then, I had to call and make an appointment for an ultra sound at a different place. My ultrasound was scheduled for October 3rd. How crazy is that!?! Then, I called back yesterday and they had a cancelation and opening for me on September 10th. I tell ya, this healthcare system is a hot mess! I called my obgyn just to see if they could take my blood and do an ultra sound in her office...like we do back home. Nope I have to go to two separate places to get this done. Geez! I have no clue why I am seeing an obgyn on September 16th (my birthday, lovely!). I am not exactly sure what she does besides deliver the baby and I won't be here to have the baby because I will be back home.

My due date is on January 20th. I have a feeling that could change. Since I will have a scheduled c-section I am wondering if I will be able to pick my date. If so we already have discussed a few. Ha! We thought it would be neat to have the baby on the 14th since Luke was born on December 14th. Plus that is my parents anniversary =) Then, the 15th is my dad's birthday which would be really cool. And then of course there is the 17th. We all know why we would want the baby born on the 17th right!?! Of course, Stefan and I were married on May 17th =) Sooo, we will see how that all works out. I just can't wait to get home and see MY dr. I just have this to say; I am very grateful, happy, blessed that Stefan is able to play football up here in Canada and take good care of his family...BUT, i am PROUD to be an AMERICAN =)

When we took Luke to the park I took some pictures. He swang and played for a little while but he was more interested in running around in the grass with his balls. He saw a baseball field and Stefan decided to teach him how to run around the bases. Luke thought it was soooo much fun! Ha! Here are some pictures that I took while the boys played. We have been trying to get him on film playing basketball. I think yall would be impressed. But everytime we start to record him he stops playing and decides to sit on his basketball like this.
