            Mary's Lament

  OH GOD !

                                                                       Oh God

                    Oh Lord, my God.

Lord, look on what they’ve done!

         With cruel spikes and
                                 razor’d pike
                                          they’ve pierced my precious Son.

The Son, oh God, You gave to me
                                      In myst’ry long ago;

   so loved by men
               Yet so betrayed;
                               this Son Who loved them so.

Oh God, my God
               Dear Lord my God

Do You see what they’ve done?

With cruel thorns
                   and lash’s scorn
                             they’ve torn this precious Son.

He poured out tender mercies;
                               He healed,
                                         and showed them grace.
Oh, Father God, within His eyes
                           E’en children found Your face.

                 Oh God, my God
                                     Sweet Father God
Lord,  look at what they’ve done:
                           With dripping sneers
                                             and raucous jeers

                                         they’ve pierced this wondrous Son.

I’d ask , my Lord,
              for all Your pow’r
                              to crush them with Your voice;

                but this Son’s made it clear this path
                                                 is taken by His choice.

 Oh God
                                   Oh God

                                                      Oh, Lord my God.

Lord, look at what they’ve done.

                            With blinded sight
                                                        and souls of night

                                                    they’ve crucified

                                                                                        Your Son.

This makes me think also of the times in the book of Luke where it said Mary "kept these things in her heart".  I think sometimes she had the most difficult "job" in the world.  Blessings to you this weekend, my brother.  Gerrie

Really, I've often only thought of how special it was for Mary to be the chosen one.  Not how difficult it was for her to see Him die.  Being chosen by God to do something, is not always what it seems to everyone else....  Have a good Easter!

Everything goes well together: the dark blue backdrop, the painted Pietà, "Her Little Child" playing through the speakers, and the words of James A. Smallish on the page. I find it an inspiring breath of fresh air and it reminds me of the power of art to stir the soul and rouse her higher. By the way, thank you very much for your extended comments. I have left you a virtual paperback by way of reply.

Jim,  WOW! This is POWERFUL to the core of one's soul! It's heart-wrenching to think of what Jesus' mother, Mary also chose to sacrifice for us when she initially said "Yes, be it done to me according to Thy will" and she "pondered these things in her heart." God has gifted you with both insight & a means to communicate it in order to BLESS OTHERS. The song accompanying your poem is absolutely right-on perfect!! In addition to focusing on our Lord's suffering & crucifixion, this is perspective also appropriate for Good Friday & Holy Saturday reflection. Thank you so much for this message, Jim. Love, your sister, Cheryl

Wow...you made me tear. I would almost expect to read that in the Bible. I wonder what she did say to God the night she talked to HIm after her son was murdered. I wonder what those 3 days without him were like. Imagine what went through her head the day she saw him again. She did more than give birth to our savior, she mothered Him and didn't fight God when He needed to sacrifice Him. I suppose only a parent can really understand what that was like for her.

Anyway, Happy Easter to you as well! I will be spending mine alone in my dorm, but an Easter just me and my Savior doesn't sound all that bad to me ;)

How hard it must have been for Mary to watch her Jesus crucified, just think what a difference 3 days made to her?

Praise God for the Resurrection!!

WOW! When I first started reading it (forgive me, I'm tired) I wondered where it came from, then realized you probably wrote it and hurried to the bottom to see. Sure enough - this is wonderful....
