| Hello Everybody!
I promise I am alive! I am sorry that its been so long since
I have sent out an email. I can't believe I am in my seventh
week down here in the Dominican Republic.
I have been doing well. I have been enjoying my time here
with my 7 other summer interns, the missionary families, the
staff, and the wonderful Dominicans. All the Dominicans say
that I'm almost a pure Dominican now. almost. Sometimes I
have to have people translate Dominican spanish for me. It's
crazy down here, but I am experiencing and learning a lot
down here.
Students International has 11 different ministry sites, and
I work at Social Work. I work with the women, teenagers, and
young girls of a really poor poor community. It's been
wonderful. The women and girls have been really receptive
towards me, and they dont want me to leave.
Different groups of students come down for two weeks at a
time, and its been a mixture of ministering to the students
that come down here and the community. My days start at
6:45am, where sometimes I help lead worship with some other
interns. Then we have a talk, quiet time, breakfast and then
we leave for our ministry sites at 9am. And we work until
4pm. Have dinner at 6pm, and then the interns help with
different activities at 7pm.
One of the interns, Mike from JMU, has actually been playing
on the church softball team down here. So thats been one of
the most fun things to do on the weekends. Go to church and
then hang out with church people, interns, and the MK's at
the game. We also have gone to waterfalls (i swear something
out of a movie) and into town.
More and more, God has been showing me His heart for the
Dominincan people. And whats been scary is He's been showing
my heart for them as well. I will ask myself... Can I see
myself living down here... living with these people..
becoming a pure Dominican? and right now, I really dont know.
Even up till a couple days ago, I still had doubts of
whether I was supposed to be down here.
And more and more God just reassures me of His plan that He
has for me down here. And its just Satan trying to work His
doubts into my head. Whether it has been my past 20 years of
life experiences, just this past year of my life, or the
lesson that God just taught me yesterday, GOD IS USING
EVERYTHING. I have been able to share a lot with the
students that come down, and help and encourage them, and
its been amazing.
I remember every time I was going through a hard time this
past year... The only thing I would hear God say to me was,
Wait, be patient. I know this hurts now, but I promise I
will use this for my kingdom and my glory one day. Please.
Wait.
And this is what I have been waiting for. Everything God has
been teaching me this oast year or past 20 years, God has
used down in the DR. ITS BEEN AMAZING! Its been awesome to
see God's faithfulness and just sovereignty over every area
of my life.
The Dominican people that I work with are just so beautiful.
They have so little... but with the little that they have,
they are so willing to offer everything. When we come into
their homes... They find chairs for us to sit. Just because
they want their guest to be able to rest. If they dont have
enogh chairs to send their kid to the neighbor's to get one.
And even though, they know that groups of Americans come in
and out of their lives every two weeks, they never fail to
give every ounce of themselves. They give all their love,
and arent afriad to be vulnerable and build relationships
even though they know they will end in two weeks.
gahhhhhh... I am just in love with these people... their
culture... their food... MANGOES!!!!!! hahaha
And right the JMU team is down here.. which lots of fun. Its
been good to see familiar faces and just be able to invest
in all of them while theyre down here.
I am still struggling with my financial support. So if you
have an envelope laying around, its not too late, please
send it in. I would really really appreciate it.
I also came down with a sinus cold this week, and if you
could be praying for my health that would be great. I need
my voice for translating at my site, and it wouldnt be the
best time to lose it.
The 7 other interns are amazing. We have become a family
with the the missionaries's kids. They are all like brothers
and sisters to me. Im the youngest intern, so its like I
have four big brothers and three older sisters. hehehe. And
then we all share, 5 younger sisters. hahaha.
Well I am sorry this is so long.

| Hello again!
It's been a little rainy, but just absolutely beautiful down here. the mountains.. countryside.. the FRUIT! hehehe
It's been a little hard the past couple days... ive been craving some sisterly fellowship... ive needed a sister in Christ that i could talk to and confide in... i have two other summer interns with me, Mike Saeur from JMU, and a guy named Richard from Arkansas.. and I've been needing a girl that I could talk to and pray with... and yea, just have accountability with.
So last night I prayed that God would bring me someone. And He showed me Alba, a beautiful woman of God that works in the medical site as a doctor. I am just so excited for the friendship and sweet fellowship that we will have this summer. She is just such a beautiful person and I just can't wait for the time that we spend together...
I feel like I've left so many things at home unresolved... and I feel like my heart and mind has
been in two places... and Ive been wanting t just devote my time here... and then God reminded me that He is sovereign. He does not need me back in the states to be working in my family, or working thruogh these problems. God is God and He will do what He needs to do, and I don't need to worry. I
think I am so easy to forget that sometimes.
Its only 11pm and Im exausted. Ive returned the community that I worked at last summer. It tears me up just seeing the community... the people... the conditions that they live... the hurt and pain in their lives.. I walk down the streets and sometimes I am just at a loss.. All I want to do is cry.. but I know that God has me down in El Callejon for a reason, and He will use me in that hurting community...
Its been good seeing familiar faces of staff from last year... And my spanish has been catching up with me... Ill be doing a lot of translating this summer, and Im kinda nervous.. but it will be ok.
I love the DR... yall need to come down here sometime, ok?

| HI FROM THE DOMINICAN!
Hey all.
I have made it here safe and sound.
After a crazy week leading up to my departure... with finals, RA stuff, a car accident (im fine!), packing to go home, packing to go to the DR, and saying goodbyes... I am here.
I am extremely spoiled and blessed this year. The interns are staying at the brand new base, and all the construction isnt even done yet. I have internet access and semi hot showers! Yes! hahaha
I flew out from DC last night. Had a 7 hour layover at JFK and I didn't sleep any of those 7 hours. Flew to the DR, got to the airport, and alas. American Airlines lost my luggage. hahahaha.
It actually ended up coming on the next flight, and drove it to the address I gave them. And American picked up the tab for having my luggage brought to me. God is good.
It's been hard. I feel like satan was really trying to do everything he could to discourage me of my trip, and put a lot of things in my way. But God is bigger. and I am here.
