Another busy weekend on base

Also, charging system went down on the wagon on Saturday, causing me to have much mental anguish on way home. Realized that I really should have fixed the brakes on the other car two months ago. So what did I do Saturday night in the dark? Fix the brakes on the other car.

Sunday, it was time for requalifying on the M-9 pistol. I have never not qualified, but I always worry myself silly over it. So this time, I calmed down and asked what's the worst that could happen? If I don't qualify, I would have to come back in two weeks to shoot again. That's it? I worried about being allowed to go back to the range and shoot again? That's not a downside, that's a plus! Long story short, I was calmed down enough to shoot a little better. When we were done, we were allowed to inspect our targets from about ten feet (too far away to be tempted to put "better" holes in them with a ball point pen), and I realized that I had some pretty decent groupings in the critical areas, so I knew then that I had qualified. When the instructor came by, he marked off the holes, and added them up: 45-27-7. Then instead of writing a "Q" (qualified) or a "U" (unqualified) on the target paper, he wrote an "E". It took a moment to sink in- after 11 years of trying to do exactly this, I shot EXPERT!!!!

Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon

Wow. Not bad for a medic, if I say so myself. (I know, all you ground combat types are reading this and laughing- that's okay. I can't do your job.)

Anyhow, that's it for this weekend, mostly. Fall is most definitely here.

Officially, I am not taking sides on the presidential election. Both candidates have relative strengths and weaknesses, and I'll leave it at that.

However, I thought this was funny:

Here's this afternoon's view from the room:

Balcony view 27 Sep 08

Spam Sushi, actually "Musubi", is served hot. A local 7-11 and ABC store special, $1.79, tops.

Here is the musubi, same view- but now dark.
