Always Traveling

Currently Reading
Dialogues with Silence : Prayers & Drawings
By Thomas Merton

Another prayer of Merton:

"In one sense we are always traveling, and traveling as if we did not know where we were going.  In another sense we have already arrived.  We cannot arrive at the perfect possession of God in this life, and that is why we are traveling and in darkness.  But we already possess Him by grace, and therefore, in that sense, we have arrived and are dwelloing in the light.  But oh!  How far have I to go to find You in Whom I have already arrived!"

Who else can relate to this tension...always traveling to draw closer to God even when we don't know exactly where we're going...but in another sense knowing that through Christ we somehow already "arrived" by His grace?  Thoughts?

wowzers (for you!), I LOVE that quote. That makes so much sense to me....that we're supposed to be satisfied in Christ, yet we can never be satisfied witht he little we know on earth. God understands so well our need for balence!

I couldn't relate more. Each of the last 3-4 years of my walk with Jesus has been full of surpises. 2 years ago I would have never seen myself where I was a year ago. A year ago I would have never guessed where I am today. And today I don't have a clue what I will be like tomorrow.

In that context, how weird is it that God doesn't see us any differently today than he did a year ago, or 2, or even 10! Somehow, He's seen Jesus in us all along. Very cool!
