Weekend Update with John King

Hey Kids, thought i'd just give everyone an update. In chronological order:

1. My esteemed buddy Eugene is gonna be living in my building. That kicks ass. We will throw raging parties in our studios. You're all invited.

2. Vacation in St Thomas for a week, which was awesome. Sad to be back.

3. I saw a man at the gym on saturday in the locker room blow drying his chest hair. That was a first.

4. I'm gonna go camping in 2 weeks. Never really been camping before. My biggest fear......pooping in the woods. In my head, it just seems like it would be messy.

5. All the money i won previously from betting on UFC, i lost betting on IFL and Bodogfights. Moral of the story: Don't bet on fights when u don't know anything about the fighters. Back to only UFC fights.

I've been so busy with work lately, that i haven't had time to find amusing material for xanga. Sorry folks. But here's some of the things that have been on my mind lately.

1. If Don Imus had said 'slanty-eyed chinks' instead of 'nappy headed hos' he'd probably still have his job. What do you think? I personally do not think he should have been fired. I think what he said was stupid, but what happened to the whole free speech thing that supposedly makes our country so great? If you don't like what he as to say, don't listen to his show. I refuse to believe that Howard Stern didn't say worse things on the public airwaves prior to his move to satellite radio.

2. Why is getting a gun license in boston so damn hard. Now i'm going to be delayed for another two months.

3. Vacation in 1 week. w00t.

4. I'm currently in week 1 of a 16 week training program to run a half marathon. Running blows. The race that i'm running in august is actually only 9 miles. But i figure i better train to run more than 9 to ensure that i can finish

5. New hobby other than hunting/sport shooting = sports betting. I've bet on the last 2 UFC championships and i'm currently up about 140 bucks. If anyone else out there bets on MMA, let me know. I'd like to talk strategy with you.

6. It sleeted today. It's Mid-April. This is retarded. Is 'sleeted' a real word?

7. How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Gold Digger Speed Dating - Part Deux

Remember that entry i posted a little while back about the Manhattan speed dating where the guys had to be rich and the ladies had to be hot? After reading about it, i was very curious as to what kind of people would show up. And thanks to Radar Online & Nicky Digital, we can all take a peak.

Snowboarding 0...... Shooting Things 1

Hi Kids,

So i've been on a search for new hobbies for a while now. I tried snowboarding last winter. It resulted in a fractured rib.

This past year, i joined a brazilian jiu jitsu gym. It was pretty awesome. Unfortunately, my office relocated downtown and there was no way i could make it to the beginner's class after work. I had to quit because by the time i walked home, got my car, and fought commuter traffic out to Newton, i'd be late to class everytime. BJJ was great, but i'd much rather have the walking commute to work instead. Natick sucked.

Enter this past weekend. I took a hunter education course in Springfield with my buddy Dan. It kicked ass. I would recommend everyone take it. It was highly educational for me. I never did the boy scouts thing as a kid, so i learned alot this past weekend.

After the exam on day 2, we finished rather early so we went to a shooting range to try out some guns. Long story short, it turns out i'm pretty good. All those hours of playing Duck Hunt as a kid paid off. (I'm being completely serious......play Duck Hunt, it helps)

Anyhoo, i brought the targets home and took some pics. If you're a pistol person, let me know what you think. I'm probably going to join a gun club so i can keep practicing. We used 2 guns:

Sports Betting

I know lots of you folks (mostly guys) play the fantasy football, or fantasy baseball, or fantasy something something.

How many of you guys do actual sports betting? I'm not much of a sports fan, I typically just don't have that many hrs of free time to sit and watch the games each week.

One thing i'm a huge fan of, though, is UFC. Ultimate Fighting and mixed martial arts is awesome.

So anyway, i thought i'd give sports betting on UFC a try just to see what it's like. Because i'm not really accustomed to any sort of sports betting, it was interesting to see what the lines and odds are like.

In the end, i decided to bet on mostly underdogs in the upcoming championship tomorrow because the risk/reward ratio is better for underdogs.

I think the only favorite that i chose was Matt Hughes...mostly because he's an animal and i don't think there's any way he can lose. I don't care if i only make a couple bucks on his bet since he's a clear favorite. I think he'll win. In all the other fights, it's so arbitrary. One good kick to the head and it could be anyone's win.

      Randy's old, but i think he's quicker than Sylvia, let's see what happens
Chris Lytle Vs. Matt Hughes
     Matt Hughes all the way
Rich Franklin Vs. Jason MacDonald
     Rich got his ass whooped by Anderson Silva, let's see Jason use the muay thai clinch
Jason Lambert Vs. Renato Sobral
     I think Babalu will probably win this one, but i'm betting on the underdog. Jason has a chance.
Rex Holman Vs. Matt Hamill
     These two seem relatively new and relatively even matched, we'll see what happens.
Jon Fitch Vs. Luigi Fioravanti
     This is the one bet i wish i could have taken back, but you can't cancel bets.  Blargh
Jason Gilliam Vs. Jamie Varner
     Gilliam's got a better record, let's see him keep it up. I wanna see a 12-0-0.

Birthday shoutout to my boy Eugene. If it wasn't for you, I'd be at Hooters tomorrow watching the fight. Biatch.

Shabu Shabu Shomuni is a Japanese hot-pot restaurant, but it serves more than just beef and vegetables.

Named after a manga comic book and a short-lived '90s TV show about six Japanese "office ladies," Shomuni features an all-you-can-eat, all-you-can-drink menu served by 15 costumed waitresses who start off dressed like receptionists and end up handcuffing patrons to their tables in sexy police uniforms.

Shomuni is the latest addition to a growing number of fetish restaurants sprouting up around Tokyo.

With hand mirrors and binoculars at their disposal, the customers can ask the waitresses to mix them a cocktail, feed them beef from their hands, or strip down to their underwear and change into a cosplay outfit of their choice.

Now, i know what you're thinking. That's Japan. They're a nation full of weirdos and perverts. While I do have to agree with you that the Japanese do tend to come up with some crazy stuff, they're not alone in this whole "sex sells......so maybe sex will sell more food" campaign.

Need an example? Well there's the classic Hooters example. I've only been to a Hooters once and that was in highschool. And i will admit, the Hooters girls in Texas are really hot. I've never been to one in Boston. Have you? How is it here?

So if you're arguing that Hooters has been around forever and it doesn't count as 'new' then here's a new one.
