Winter Wonderland...
I hate this weather.. it's downright depressing and i feel like I have to suit up every time i venture outside. However, I despise the snow just a bit less now that i have these awesome snowboots by Totes! Props to christine for discovering them. They're waterproof, fur-lined and they go up to my knees so they keep my jeans dry. What's the big deal about Uggs? They look warm but how do you keep them clean from slush and nasty snow?
Anyhow, during some idle moments this past blizzard weekend, my sister and I began to compile "happy" songs for a playlist. You know how some songs out there just make u think of summer and warm weather?? Here's what we've got so far:
1. Soaking in the Sun by sheryl crow
2. Sunday Morning (so what if the first line goes "sunday morning rain is falling".. it's got a happy beat)
3. Kocomo by the Beach Boys
4. Escape (Pina Colada song.. it goes "if you like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain...")
5. Sittin on the docks on the bay by Otis Redding
6. Summer of 69 by Bryan Adams
7. Somewhere Beyond the Sea by Bobby Darin (It's also the song for the carnival cruiseline commercial)
8. Jump by the Pointer Sisters (The song in Love Actually with Hugh Grant doing that silly dance down the stairs)
9. Sunrise by Norah Jones
Any other suggestions?

Well... I'm chillin at home on a friday night, which is pretty rare. Those of you who know me also know that i'm always up for a night out on the town I'm trying to write up an intelligence report for a class I'm taking and so far, it's not going well. For starters, I'm totally engrossed by the television. Cirque du Soleil is on Bravo.. Allegria. I actually saw the real performance over the summer but i'm watching it now like it's the first time.
Anyhow, I guess i'll also use this opportunity to solicit a volunteer to take an intelligence test. It's for a personality class i'm taking.... i need to administer the test and write up a psych evaluation. Any takers?? I'm getting desperate here.. although there are no perks involved if you do volunteer. You get about two hours of my company It's a standard IQ test, it's good for anyone who has concerns about their cognitive strengths and weaknesses. It'll be fun!

Time for a brief update... only because I'm procrastinating (I should be studying for an exam)...so here goes:

Today I went to see Bombay Dreams with Leda and the Indian crew. So we were all settled into our seats when this guy behind us claims he has a ticket for the same seat. We all thought the theater made a big boo boo and distributed tix for the same seat but to our horror, our tickets were dated October 15!! So all seven of us were thinking "oh crap, what are we gonna do now??" Leda was really freaking out since she was the one who purchased the tix from the NYU student center and she neglected to doublecheck the date before she paid for them. Anyhow, as luck would have it the ushers were super nice and moved us to unoccupied seats, front mezz and smack in the center row! haha, we traded in our nosebleed balcony seats for way better ones. The guy who had the same ticket as us must've been kicking himself when he saw that! Either way.. that tells you something about the people who admitted us into the theater in the first place. I mean, all seven of us managed to get into tonight's show with last week's tickets?!!! Ridiculous...

In other news, my friends and I have become free movie screener whores. We literally go to maybe one film each week. In the past couple of months, I've managed to watch these films for FREE:
Napoleon Dynamite (even got a free t-shirt)
Harold & Kumar go to White Castle
Super Size Me
Alfie
Vanity Fair
Eulogy

Granted I might not even have actually paid to see these movies in the first place but still, free movies are awesome! Free underwear from Victoria's secret is great too. In the past 3 months, I think i've scored at least 4 pairs of undies from VS! haha, even my dad got a card for a free panty.. BIZARRE..

So Long, Farewell....

Today is my last day at work. I'm leaving to begin my stint as a full time graduate student and it's a bittersweet departure. It's sad because i've made a little place for myself at this firm. The commute is awesome, i've got this fabulous view of union square, I have IMs ALL day long, and my bosses are pretty easygoing. I'm leaving all this to become a temporarily unemployed student.. is that crazy? On the other hand, I've mentally prepared myself to make this transition. I think i've learned all there is to learn at my job and it's time to move on. I'm looking forward to something new and now is the time to do it.

For my last day, my bosses have planned a nice order-in lunch from Japonica. They know i like japanese food even tho i'm pretty much the only one who does! But they're all willing to accommodate me as the lunch is in honor of me

In other news, yesterday was my buddy christine's 24th birthday. Even tho it was a thursday night, we partied like it was the weekend! We started at Taj but they weren't letting people in cuz they were still serving dinner to people. I never understood that concept. Wouldn't you think that party promoters would have advance notice on things like that?? Start the party at 11 instead of 10! Anyway, we had an "in" at Spider room inside Avalon so we walked around the corner. We had some drinks, made some friends and then left with those friends to go to Suede. We had another hookup at Suede so we were actually able to get in and not pay cover. The crowd was pretty attractive and we saw Joey Fatone from N'Sync hanging out by the bar. Anyhow, we drank, danced and ended up staying much later than we had initially planned. And now... i'm paying for it. I got 4 1/2 hours of sleep and i feel like crap. Plus, the birthday festivities continue tonight so i better have enough energy to put on my drinking shoes!

On yet another note, isn't it great how bartenders give free drinks to people when it's their birthday? My friends and i started thinking.. we should just SAY it's our bday and get free drinks all the time! I mean, who would know??

Breaking up is hard to do....

No, I didn't suddenly acquire and break up with a BF. I'm actually referring to my 10 yr. relationship with AOL. YES, i've been with AOL for nearly a decade! It all started back in 1994 when the internet was up and coming. I convinced my dad i needed the internet... i told him about online encyclopedias and instant homework help and he was sold. And so began the 10 yr love affair with AOL. I had an AOL 2.0 diskette which i installed onto my 386 computer that was running Windows 3.1 at the time. I had no one on my buddy list at the time because i didn't know anyone who had internet. Slowly but surely, soon everyone had AOL by the time i was in highschool. By the time i entered college, everyone was slowly moving on to bigger and better things like DSL and cable modem. I, however, stayed pretty loyal. That is.. until i graduated from college and left my super fast T1 connection behind and returned to dialup at home. I figured, i only use my internet to chat and email at home, i don't need to spend so much on cable modem! I stuck with dialup for about a yr and was finally seduced by highspeed internet in January of this year. I prepared for my departure by creating new email addresses for myself and telling my friends that i would have a new SN. I was all ready to go. I called AOL and told them i wanted to cancel my account. They were sad to hear that i was leaving them. They tried to butter me up but i wasn't budging. Then they whipped out the big guns. They offered me 3 months of free AOL service! Suddenly, I started to rethink my decision. I get to keep my email address and my screen name for another 3 months.. why not?? So, no hard feelings, i was back with AOL for another several months. When the 3 months ended, i called AOL for a second attempt at cancellation. Once again, they were sad to hear that i was leaving them. They asked "why??" I told them it wasn't working for me anymore, that it was just getting too expensive. They responded "have you tried all these online methods to save money?" I said no and they told me they'd give me another 2 months for free to see if those methods would work for me. Once again, I was seduced by the prospect of free AOL. Well, the 2 free months ended about a month ago. I called for the 3rd time to cancel AOL and this time they told me that it would actually be more expensive just to have roadrunner w/o AOL. I dunno what kinda twisted logic they used on me but apparently it worked and i agreed to stick with AOL for another 6 months. I was told that i'd only be paying $29.95 for roadrunner if i kept AOL for $9.95. That worked out to be cheaper than $44.95 for just roadrunner. Anyway, i got my roadrunner bill the other day and i was charged $44.95 and an additional $14.95 for AOL!!! I demanded answers from both AOL and Timewarner.. and each company told me to call the other. After i spoke to the reps, nothing more could be done. I would have to stick with AOL until Feb of next yr or get slapped with a $50 cancellation fee. UGH, i've been with AOL for 10 yrs and this is the treatment i get. Things with AOL and I couldn't have been better when it first began.. but now, i think i've grown outta AOL. It's so needy and controlling. JUST LET ME MOVE ON WITH MY LIFE!!! Now let's hope I have the strength to resist anymore of AOL's attempt to convince me to stay ....
