  • Update

This last week, I lost 3.4 pounds bringing me down to about 260 pounds. That surprised me since I've been unable to work out due to Rachel's surgery.

I've lost 25 pounds since July 12. Only 10 more pounds until my Christmas goal. Only 60 pounds until my August 2009 goal.

  • Week Six, Part Two

Oh, and PS... I found this anatomically-correct replica of five pounds of body fat. Crazy to think I've lost four of these things so far. In the end, I'll have lost 17 of them...

  • Week Six

So, last week, we were on vacation so the diet took a bit of a break. The food was too good and life is too short! But this week, things are back on track. I lost 2.2 pounds from the weight I was before the vacation, so I probably lost more than just 2.2 this week. Body fat is down to 36.2%. I did some calculations and figured out something pretty cool. When you do the math, at the beginning of this lifestyle change, I had 116.6 pounds of... well... fat on my body. That's 40.9% of 285. That also means I had 168.4 pounds of lean 'core' weight (the good stuff). Well, as of today, At 36.2% fat, I only have 96.1 pounds of body fat. On the good side, it means I've added a whole pound of lean muscle! More muscle means calories burn more quickly and for longer. It's fun to watch those two numbers go down and go up, respectively.

So, total weight loss in six weeks is 20 pounds! Only 15 more to go before I reach my Christmas goal.

  • Week Four

Well, after four weeks, I've lost 17.4 pounds. I'm excited, motivated, and ready to keep on going. This week, I dropped another 3.2 pounds and my body fat is down to 36.8%. At this point, I'm half way to my Christmas goal and I still have like four months left! Methinks I'll exceed that one. Maybe I can get to 200 well before next August. That would rock.

Next week is going to be tough, as we'll be celebrating our anniversary in Newport, Rhode Island. There's lots of good food to be had, and we will definitely be eating some of it. My goal this week is not to take a step back. I want to make smarter choices in restaurants. Fish instead of steak, veggies instead of french fries, etc.

Here's some pictures of where we're going:

Our hotel is the brick building behind the church steeple

    This is our room

    The rooftop patio

The front of the hotel, Vanderbilt Hall

Hip dinner number one, Salvation Cafe

Swank dinner number two (our Anniversary), Tucker's Bistro

Classy dinner number three, The Mooring

  • Week Three

Had our weekly weigh-in on Saturday morning and things are still going well. I lost 2.8 pounds last week and dropped my body fat to 37.8%. That's pretty good considering we had to skip our gym time twice and ate out with Mike and Lisa one night. I'm pleased that even when that happens, we weren't backpedaling and gaining weight. Tonight, we had a great time at Joanne and Jared's and were able to go easy on all the good food. I think I only went over my calorie goal by about 50 calories or so. Granted, there was a teeny tiny slice of chocolate cake, but I refuse to be anal about things. That's one real quick way to kill a good thing. Moderation is key.

So, things are good. I've lost just under 15 pounds in 3 weeks, los pantalones are feeling a bit loser, my back has pretty much stopped hurting, and I'm well on my way to reaching (and surpassing) the 250 mark by Christmas. Thanks to everyone who's cheering me on. It helps!

  • Week Two

We just had our weigh in for week two and things are going great! I lost 5.4 pounds this week and dropped another 1.2% off my body fat bringing it to 38.4%. So, total weight loss so far is 11.4 pounds in two weeks.

  • First Week

We had our first 'weigh-in' on Saturday and I'm excited. I lost 6 pounds (2.1% drop) and moved my body fat percentage from 40.8 to 39.6 since the previous Saturday. One of the great things about counting calories is that it's surprisingly freeing. Every day, I've been almost exactly on my calorie goal of 1750 per day and don't actually feel like I'm sacrificing. The food we're eating is satisfying, tastes great, and there isn't an empty calorie to be seen!

Here is my inspiration for the next year:

If you've never watched Biggest Loser, it's pretty much a cry-fest but it really gives me hope seeing people even bigger than myself achieve the kind of results I'm looking for.
