| PraiseOops! I did it again.... But with more preparation this time. About a month to be exact.
I was asked to worship lead again, but this time for Youth Fellowship at my church. Cuz a group of youths from The Presbyterian Church in PD came to visit, so we had a special Youth service with them, complete with a Praise & Worship session by - Yours Truly!
Earlier, Aunty May had asked me, and I freaked out! remembering the last time I worship lead at CF in my collage, and specifically told her that it would be better if it wasn't me, and to only tell me if there was no one else to lead. At least that gave me a head start and to prepare myself for the news just in case. Well.... I did do it in the end.
My song list was : 1. My Redeemer Lives 2. King of Majesty 3. Made Me Glad 4. In Christ Alone 5. Heart of Worship
During our first practice, I hadn't really found the songs I wanted yet. And it was really messed up. So I had to have a 2nd practice. And during that one, my voice kept breaking and I couldn't hit the keys. Lets just say I sucked bad. King of Majesty is the hardest cuz that song goes pretty high and I can't hit it. I had to rope in a backup singer for that part.
But all in all, God really helped me and I did good on that Sunday. Sure I was again nervous as hell, but definitely better and more confident than the last time.
That it why people should not throw stuff at me at the very last minute!!! Give me time to prepare myself, and when it's close to the dead line, I'll do my best. I work best under pressure sometimes...
Thanks so much to my worship team : Jun Fhui/Jason on Piano, Anna on Drums, Tian Sia on Backup, Meng Fhui/Christopher on guitar, Jocelyn on LCD Projector. And especially our Lord for being there, to calm me.

| Dance Dance Warning : The farther reading of this blog post might cause the explosion of brain cells.
Surprise! Surprise! I signed up for a dance workshop recently! I know what you're thinking.... Joyce!? Dance!? LOL!!!!!!! But it's true! I've always loved dance, just never dared try it before. The was a college club organized event, and for 20 ringgit, we get to have a class of 7 different dances (each class 1 hour). I went with a bunch of friends and I guess we had lots of fun, cuz we know we all suck!
Me friends dancing... And here's my verdict : 1. Salsa - nothing much, cool routine that he showed us at the start, but when it was the teaching part, it was mostly stepping front, stepping back and making turns. Still it is the basic, and it was quite fun.
2. New Jazz - Britney Spears type style of dance. Very sexy. Especially the instructor Belinda, from INTI College. Cannot say the same for me though. It's was pretty fun that we got to learn a simple routine and it made us sweat.
3. Ballroom Dance - This one I had a problem with! The instructor may be a professional, but she starts off the class explaining the history of each type of BR dance. (Excuse me! Do you know how many types of BR dances there are!?) And then she proceeds to showing us solo routines of all of them! Like sendiri syok sendiri! (dancing for herself) Finally teaching us a very very simple cha cha move. All this in one hour wei! Should have thought us more moves and explain less about the dance. In conclusion : BR Dance is super hard, and should only be learnt full time, cuz you'll get nothing from the basics.
4. Hip Hop - The instructor was fun and lively, the routine was fairly simple and do-able. Nice experience and I had fun.
5. Popping - Woah! I knew it was hard before, but after, it's even tougher than I thought. My ankles hurt like hell doing this. (Beware: Not recommended for the untalented = Me)
6. Shuffle - OMG! I feel like a dumb dumb doing this. Mainly because I know I'm bad, but also because it's done by a certain "group of people" randomly on the streets, who don't care that they hog the whole pathway. Inconsiderate ppl they are! Don't like them! And I will do nothing that associates me with them! (no offence) But the instructor was rather cute!
7. Bearkdance - Another OMG! ok the starting moves were not bad, doesn't require me to "get down and dirrty!" on the ground. But when it did come to them teaching us how to balance our bodies on our head! that was the point I said no. No offense, I haven't broken any bones yet in my life (Thank God for that) and I'm not about to stop that now... cuz I know my talent is not in that field...
I tried learning to break. (nothing broke though) ______________________________________________________________________________________
On another note, I have been practicing this particular dance with some of the Chinese Language Society ppl for their performance on their 10th Anniversary Charity Nite. It's energetic, it's rough, it hurts, But it's fun! It's the same dance they do in Stomp the Yard. My friends from CLS call it body percussion, but in the movie, they call it stepping. Either way, I liked it! Of course it's hard work! Do you know how many bruises I got after my first practice? And to get the timing right, so that all the beats sound insync, was killer! But when we finally did get it right.... It felt so good! After like 3 months of hard work paid off. I haven't felt like that since that time in US where my school's One Act Play team won. But trust me, I was a nervous wreck right before our performance cuz I kept messing up the steps. During the actual performance, sure we messed up a little, but I was glad we pulled it off. And I'm really going to miss all the times we had practise. And speaking of the perfromance, we were told that all of the ppl involved with the stage show on that nite, had to go "do our hair", yeah... as in go to a saloon and style our hair! It was fully sponsored, so I get a free hair do (my first time too!). So as I sit in the chair and the stylist is working on my hair, I start freakin out on the inside, because he's curling my hair and it almost looked like baby doll curls! I told him I was part of the dance. But later it turn out to be ok, quite pretty actually. But the problem is, it looked as though I'm going to some masquerade ball or something with that hair, when I'm actually doing a rough dance. But anyway, I went with the flow. A bunch of my friends came to support me! In other words, they wanted to see me dance for the first time, because they just couldn't believe it when I told them. One guy even "complimented" me saying I looked like a girl! wtf?
You be the judge...
Me curls and hair-do ps. taking pictures from the back is hard | | |
| Random I was originally going to do the tag that Kelsey gave me, but then I realized that I really have nothing to write, or I'm just really lazy... sorry, Kelsey... So anyway, I'm turning this into a random post.
Awhile ago, I came across this drink... You know how when people ask you what you want to drink, and you tend to say "Anything lah!" or "Whatever!" ... well that's how the concept of this drink came about....
They don't tell you what you're getting, so it's like a mystery drink. It does have like a list of flavors they have on the label though, so you do have some king of idea of what you're getting. Anything is carbonated and is made in six flavors: Cola, Cola with Lemon, Apple, Fizz Up, Cloudy Lemon and Root Beer. Whatever is non-carbonated and is made in six flavors as iced tea: Ice Lemon Tea, Peach Tea, Jasmine Green Tea, White Grape Tea, Apple Tea and Chrysanthemum Tea. I think it's a really cool idea, and when I bought it, I got Apple Tea in Whatever, and Orange Cola for Anything. The price is slightly more expensive than the normal canned drinks out in the market, but if you're up for something different, this will be great for you. For more info, here's the Wikipedia entry and the official page.
I tried to make a Cheese Cake the other day, took the recipe from Matha Steward's website. (I love the Martha Steward Show and Rachel Ray) But I couldn't follow the recipe exactly, so I improvised. Do you know Cream Cheese cost like RM 10 per pack!? Well, it was my first time and I have a crappy oven that doesn't go more than 250 degrees, so naturally, it didn't turn out so good... in my opinion. My mum said it taste ok though... I didn't like the texture too much. No pictures, cuz I burnt the top a bit, and it looks horrible! But rest assured that I will not rest until I know how to make the perfect Cheese Cake! Shout outs to Steph and David! I'm going to make sure I'll make you one someday, when I come back to Texas! Ok, for those who have never heard of this drink before, well, Dr Pepper is like one of the most popular drinks in the US, and it was really a surprised that I found some in Jusco Seremban 2, of all places... But just so y'all know, it doesn't have pepper in it at all. Josh, one of my best friends from US was the one who gave me my first drink for my b-day, cuz he was like "You have to try it!!" Yeah well, I tried it, and I don't like it. To me, it tastes like a cough mixture medicine that I had to take when I was little. But then again, One Man's Meat is Another Man's Poison... Try it before you come to any conclutions from me... Dr Pepper is from Texas, and I've been to the museum in Waco, Texas. That's why it is some how in my Texas roots.

| Farewell Timmy! This blog is dedicated to our very dear friend Timothy Tam, who has been so lucky to be able to leave our-so-called country of Malaysia, and gone to the better pastures of US.... more specifically, Stanford University in Cali... to become our next Astronaut (or at least something to do with that)... quite frankly, I don't know... Remind me to ask.
Tim is a friend I first met during BRATs Camp... I never really enjoyed myself there, cuz I wasn't that out-going / our-spoken yet. But I did make some friends... Anyway, when I later applied for the AFS-YES program, I found out a few other Brats from my camp applied too. And during this whole YES journey did I really get to know Tim.
Tim is (from my point-of-view) a straight A student! He is practically good in everything! He is so friendly, so fun, and a great friend. His girlfriend is so lucky! His only flaw... he can dance. (as he said so himself) So it was really great when he told me he got into Stanford. If anyone deserves it, it's Tim.
I went to his farewell party the other day, (stictly YES 07) and it was so great that quite a few ppl turned up! Even ppl I haven't seen in awhile! Like Nick, MasLiza, Wendell, and even Sim! And the usuals : Tim, Faisal, Azhan, Trisha, Colin, DeeJay, Kelsey, Ken, Jilian.
There was music, dancing, drinking and lot of loony-ness!
Deejay and Colin's pole dance!
One!
Two!
Three! *sweat*
Four! *kawaii*
Five! (I just had to be different) :P
a couple of us slept over at Tim's Villa (and when I mean sleep, it was like maybe an hour or 2, we slept at around 5 am, and I got up around 6, but slept again til 7 or 8 cuz I decided to skip class) ...
All snuggled up in bed... p.s. Drunk Colin and Nick are so funny!
Colin is a sami seeking donations.... LOL! I just had so much fun, and I love my YES 07 family. Tim! you will truly be missed!

| SYTYCDThe Grand Finals for So You Think You Can Dance Malaysia Season 2 was just awesome (speaking from Malaysian standards)!
Being an loyal fan of SYTYCD, I was really looking forward to the show when I first heard that it had come to Malaysian shores last year, but I could never really watch it, being in the States and all, and YouTube hardly helped. You can never really enjoy anything when it's blurred. But this year, I just had to watch Season 2, and so I did.
Comparing it to the American version is just impossible, because they have more experience and budget. Hand down US has the better production, choreography, dancers and audience. (no offense to Malaysia, but you know I'm right) Sometimes, while watching the show, I just had to look away to save myself the embarrassment. At times the crowd are just not responsive enough and some contestants were just really bad. But surprisingly, I did find really good choreography too! And then there were times which made me think, their copying the US version.
Season 1 definitely had lots of copying and I'm glad season 2 didn't make the same mistake. And thank God they changed host! Seriously one of the best decisions the producers ever made. The final 4 were almost as I expected it to be. My prediction was Hong, Black, CiCi and JoJo. Sim never really stood out to me, but she really made me go wow! with her performance in the finals.
Hong, CC, Black, Sim Hong was definitely the most comedic yet passionate. CiCi was serious, yet charismatic. Black was unique and I really like his style (my favourite). And Sim was honest, brave and different. Black and CC definitely were stand-outs to me since their first auditions. But it was really their last solo performance that really made me see them for who they really are. Hong's performance was hip-hop kinda style and it was full of emotion but with a little dash of fun to it. CC's Latin was clean, well-done and she stuck with what she does best. Black was the most fun, outrageous and unique, and the whole routine had his name written all over it. But Sim! Sim was so different and deep! It was like she was in her own world. Sometimes, people just don't get routines that are so deep. But I thought it was just the right kind of flavour that the competition needed. She actually danced with a piece of string tied from the stage to the ceiling (slightly horizontal though, hard to explain) and then at the end of her dance, she pulls out a pair of scissor and cut the string. All I can say is Wow!
It was really a hard choice between who would win, because they were all great. (Oh! and btw, I LOVED the girl's routine to Ain't No Other Man! Absolutely fabulous! Playful yet sensual!) And in the end, Cici won. And congrats to her on a job well done.
Now I will continue my SYTYCD journey by watching SYTYCD USA Season 4.... BTW, Me love Travis Wall!
