Name: Rebekah

Interests: I love playing the guitar and singing... one of my biggest hobbies is writing songs and poetry, or just plain pages of words. I like two kinds of music -- music that I listen to, and music that I play. I really enjoy talking to my friends and spending time with my God and Creator.
Expertise: I'm an expert at saying the wrong things at the times when I need to say the right things... and the right things when nobody's listening.

Here I am again!

Hello all!
Sorry this entry has been so long coming.  It has been a crazy past few months... ALMOST HALF OF A YEAR!

I've finished my first summer since being in college.  It was a good summer, full of work and church involvement.  I worked at a gourmet delicatessen called Andrea's and a Hallmark on the island.  Work was a challenge and a joy.  I made some amazing new friends, and learned a lot about what it means to work full-time.  I loved working in the food industry, although it's dirtier than I expected, I love the hustle and bustle!
I learned a lot about who God is.  for me this summer, He was my "Everywhere, All-the-Same God."  It was hard being away from the close-knit, super-spiritual surrounding of CIU.  But God showed me that the same God that I know at CIU came with me back to FL and resides with me there in the same poignancy and power as He does here in SC.
It was an amazing blessing and growing experience to lead worship at my church as a temporary servant while the true leader was out of town.  I grew a lot in my skills and my confidence in Christ as my source.  It's hard work!  But God seemed to provide the song sets for me in a really meaningful way each week.  If you have a worship leader in your church, give them a hug or send them a card and tell them how much you appreciate them!
Spending time with my family over the summer was also very refreshing.  At least, when they were around!  I'm so proud of them for getting out into the world and showing God's love!  They are so much fun to be with.  They have great senses of humor and I feel like I can talk about anything with any one of them!  Even talking about them now is making me happy!

I came back to CIU on August 11th for a retreat with my fellow members of the FLT (Freshman Leadership Team).  The FLT is a group of people who are committed this year to live on the Freshman halls and help acclimate the new students to college-life.  I work as an events coordinator along-side my room-mate and another guy member of the team (each role has a position and its male or female counter-part).  We plan crazy things to do with the freshmen, as a class, and as individual halls (the building) or floors.
I feel like I'm surrounded by an incredible group of people.  There are 15 of us on the team, 2 members on each floor.  We all bring very different strengths to the group and are willing sounding boards for some pretty crazy ideas.  One thing I know, we make things happen, and we make them happen big because of the bond that God's given us as a team.
The team would be nothing without the freshmen that we support.  CIU's class of 2011 is so much fun, and hard workers too!  The girls on my floor are crazy sometimes, and I think I've last more in this first month or so than I did my entire first semester in college!  They love to do random things, like going to Goodwill to try on crazy clothes and "dumpster diving" for Krispy Kreme donuts late at night.  They are quickly becoming sisters.  We've already had a few crises on the hall, and it was such a blessing to see the girls come together as a family and walk through it hand-in-hand - sometimes literally.
Beside the FLT, I am here for another reason... to prepare for the future God has for me.  That's why I'm taking the wonderful classes that were offered to me this semester.  I'm taking two education classes, a teaching English as a foreign language class, Marriage and Family, and Biology.  I'm loving all of them most of the time.  It is hard to keep up with the necessary tasks of FLT and church commitments and the homework for 17 credit hours.  I am doing well, though, and seem to be learning a lot!
I'm working while I'm here as well.  Dish-pit (cafeteria, dish-washing job) duty is on Thursdays and Saturdays, and I'm continuing to clean a house on Saturday mornings.  I also babysit for a single mom/student on Tuesday nights.  It's nice to have some spending and saving money to do all these crazy things that my floor has been so excited about.
I'm being intentional about pouring into my church as well.  My ministry requirements at school are being filled by teaching Sunday school to the Pre-K and K class.  I'm also on the worship team, which is looking like a more regular commitment this year than it was last year.  I was really challenged my first Sunday back this fall to not come to church simply looking to be filled.  I need to invest.  So, I'm excited about what God's going to do through that.
God is teaching me so much!  Mainly, He's reminding me of grace, and what it means to be saved.  I've been saved for many, many years now, but sometimes I feel like a baby Christian because of the simple things He has to remind me of constantly.  I'm still trying to meet with my small group - my friends Kathleen, Emma, and Jill.  And the FLT girls are going through a meeting time with Debbie Jones - CIU's president's wife, and author of Lady in Waiting.  That has been such an encouragement and challenge to meet daily with God, as my Lover.  Hopefully, I'm also going to be starting a small group with a few freshmen girls, meeting together and reading Captivating by John and Stasi Eldridge.  That book changed a lot about the way I see myself as a woman of God, pursued and loved passionately by Him.  I'm very excited to share that with freshmen.  It's something I wish I would've known a year ago when I first came.

I thank you so much, if you have been praying.  It really has been a wonderful year!  For those of you who would like some more specific areas to be praying for, here is a list of requests that I have so far this year:
    Freshmen:
- Pure and casual guy/girl relationships, based on the amount of time they've known each other
- Continued transition
- Growing closer to Christ through their studies
- Health and rest
- Finding a good, solid, Bible-believing home church here in Columbia
    Me:
- Rest, that I would be disciplined enough to get a good amount of sleep every night, consistently
- Consistent time with the Father
- Diligence in homework
- Keeping up old friendships with upper-classmen is a challenge, and something I have to be very intentional about
- Something simple and silly: my camera was misplaced or stolen.  I didn't realize what it meant to me until now,             when I don't have it.  It's unfortunate not to be able to document fun stuff that goes on in my life in pictures.          Pray that it would turn up, or God would provide.

Thank you all so much for you love and prayers!  I pray that God's blessing you BIG in your life right now, and stretching you in new ways!

end of the year!!!

I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT!  i'm almost done with my first year of school!

considering what I have learned

- relationships are the most challenging and most rewarding part of CIU life.

- keep your eyes on Jesus ALL THE TIME

- first semester: college is a joy, love learning!

- second semester: there are ways to make learning enjoyable (even in the classes that don't require as much attention and are easy to fall asleep in)

- take notes in at least five different colors!

- be in bed by midnight whenever possible... SLEEP IS A BLESSING!

- one cup of caffinated coffee makes for a "20 minute night" (bathroom break every 20 minutes)

- DON'T EVER GET BEHIND ON ANYTHING!

- soak up the word... get into it, and let it get into you

- i am at CIU to meet Jesus... to know Him and make Him known.

- wake up an hour early and eat breakfast on test days

- SLEEP IS A BLESSING!

- don't sleep too much, you get in a rut and sleep all the time.

- exercise can be and is your friend

- keep my dorm room door open as much as possible

- good music is good medicine

- facebook life is not real life, don't confuse the two

- when i am with the church (as a body), i am with my family

- not to mention all the head knowledge

but i STILL don't feel any older or "more mature!"  i don't think i ever will, but that's okay.  i'm constantly moving forward, rarely looking back, and living each moment to the fullest - or at least attempting to.

good memories, good times...

I'M STILL ALIVE!!!

 hello family and friends!

it seems like every time i write a new post on here i start with an apology.  so, i think i'll skip an introduction and just jump right into the content!  BUT if i were to write an introduction, i would apologize for not posting in so long, then tell you that A LOT has happened in my life since i last posted!  hmmmm... that was pre-spring break! ok... here we go!

spring break was a HUGE blessing!  i spent it with my family and friends on Sanibel and in Haines City for sten and ben's b-ball tournament.  it was nice to chill on the beach... i mean bake... most of my friends were definitely chillin' up north in the snow!

since i got back... school has FLOWN by!  less than 6 weeks until the end of the semester!  hard to believe!  ok.. as usual, i'm going to post some pics to tell stories... 'cause i like pics!

PRAISE GOD! SPRING BREAK IS 9 DAYS AWAY!

 I CAN'T WAIT!

i'm taking a car-load of people home for break!  well, giving a car-full of rides! 2 of my friends will be hanging out for a little bit though.

MIDTERMS: going pretty well... ummm... i think i have one left in Western Civ.  and one in Foundations of Ed. after the break.

i'm learning sooooo much!

i'm beginning a study with a girl at USC tonight for new Christians.  it's assigned for my evangelism class, but it's proving to be an encouragement to me, and i hope it is for her as well!

here's a pic or two of the sunset from the pointe her at ciu... nothing like a sanibel sunset, but beautiful nonetheless...
