The new Journey featuring Arnel Pineda is out! 3 Disc set for only 12 bucks! Downside is it's only available through Wal Mart but meh ... this is the first CD I've bought since Napster went down. Gotta support progressive causes haha ...
I guess I'm an America-hating, racist bastard liberal, because I don't really see all that much wrong with what Obama's Pastor Jeremiah Wright said in the "inflammatory" sermons. Well, for one thing they were impassioned semons in trying times -- the same trying times that led some right-wingers to blame gay people for 9/11. Wright's comments are, while surely uncomfortable for some, not all that far-fetched or illogical. Seriously what is more likely? That God (Allah) is punishing the gays, or that our exploitive foreign policy creates pissed-off people whose lives are only worth being sacrificed to punch us in the gut?
Some of the other stuff is a little more out there, but who knows? I'm pretty sure FAR more shady shit that we have never heard of has been done by our government. Obama's a smart guy, even if he was there for those sermons he could surely use his own brain to decide how likely each bit of preaching is. That's the great thing about the analytical, liberal approach -- you don't really have to worry that the person is an impressionable moron who doesn't know any better than to believe what the demagogues tell him.
This better not derail Obama in any way. That would be a fucking pisser.
So, if you haven't heard of it yet, you may soon. Ben Stein has put together a little film called Expelled, which accuses the academic community of discriminating against "intelligent design" proponents. Now I haven't seen it and based on my readings don't plan to, but if there is any truth to the reports that Stein blames evolution science for things as sensible as Hitler and the Holocaust, I don't suspect I'm missing anything (as if I agree with Stein on much of anything anyway).
A much, much better piece on the topic of ID is this Nova episode, available for free, and is essential factual grounding in the legal cases that have led us to this point. I highly recommend watching it (or just listening), it is extremely interesting and englightening. And when the inevitable right-wing chain emails come through, I plan to reply with that episode as well.
Well it looks like the new year is starting off at a crawl as far as the local Xangasphere. When even Kamaaha hasn't posted, you know things are slow.
Got a few things to report but I'm too tired right now. Just a musical post, a song I've been enjoying lately. Too bad I don't think they have it at Krazy.
