  • I stole a few moments to paint today...it's been kinda chaotic around here lately and I haven't been doing much art.  :(

I told you I was going to paint over that box!  Ugh.  The red made me feel much better.  I was listening to U2's War also.  That will forever be remembered as the first cd I ever heard.  I have recently thought to ask other people that were around when I would have been hearing that CD.  Bob Spencer.  He was the first person I knew who bought a CD player!  Sheesh...so weird to think of that being old school, already.  He bought a CD player, and U2's War.  His second CD was by Kate Bush.  Anyhoo...it's been fun to discover that every person that has been queried  that would have been hanging out at Bob's back in the day remembers the same thing.  In regards to the painting...it's got a Kate Bush side to come, I guess.  :)

There's actually a lot of red added to this, but I took these pictures tonight and with a flash, just for the sake of showing you the next sitting.  ;)  You can scroll down an entry if you want to see the "before"....but I didn't get as much done on these as I would have liked.  I went to look for some cerulean blue (which I end up not owning in oil) and somehow managed to jam my foot on the corner of my paintbox sitting on the floor.  I somehow got the underside of two of my toes caught up on it and scraped them into little bleeding masses.  It hurt.  I went back inside.  :(  But I'm still happy I got some painting done today.

  • What I have been doing in regards to art:

Still doing ACEO's and experimenting in styles...

Figuring out how to take a few old pieces and turn them into little ACEO prints.  I have a friend who has a pretty amazing inkjet printer that made these up for me and I'm trying my hand at selling them.  Wouldn't you like to have a little piece of Miriam stuck in your wallet to look at when you're down or moody?  ;)  You can see them in my etsy shop here.

And in the really unfinished department:

This is one of my "bigger" pieces I've been working on.  It kinda makes me think I'm crazier then I've been giving myself credit for.  This isn't a great picture of it, sorry...but it's not done and I see no need to show you the thing perfect.  :)  I just thought some of you might get a kick out of seeing something in progress.  I always do!  At one point I thought this was done...and then I started painting again.  I'm not sure what the final outcome will be like.  When I'm done with it, I'll explain more of it.  Hee.

This is also turning out very similar to the last one in that I had gone a whole other direction, didn't like it, painted over it, HATE this.  Hah.  The thing is....this is how I paint.  I love picking up pieces of previous stuff everytime I pick up the brush.  That layering upon layering of paint, translates into layering upon layering of thought.  And I like that.   But this...noooo...it will most likely be REALLY different in the final analysis...but we'll see.

This is what I worked on today.  I wish I had thought to try my hand at taking pictures along the way before I covered this one up with another idea a few weeks ago.  But I've been itching to get back to it.  It was a tree underneath it, and there's a good chance the tree might resurface.  ;)  I took this pic before I started painting....and then I took what I achieved so far today...

I did know that this is the direction I was going to go with this.  Now I have to stew over it some more.

I also did a lot of weeding and gardening in the yard today.  H. and I managed to plant a tomato plant.  I love our yard so much.  We're still brewing about "what to do".  Who knows...maybe we'll just stay put.  I wouldn't complain.

It's very rainy like today...without the rain.  I keep expecting it at any moment.  I love days like this when it's also warm enough to be outside.  We're supposed to go to a graduation party of a friend out at the lake.  It started half an hour ago, but my boys are both snoozing in the living room...don't want to deny them that luxury.  :)

  • Life just keeps zooming by.  I'm sure I've wasted much time, also.  I'm not sure I really have the blogging bug again...but I do miss the daily camaraderie that I felt here.  I tend to come visit one or two blogs a day and maybe leave a comment.  Pretty random.
Lots of stuff on my mind.  Mainly my husband is graduating w/ his MLS and is applying for jobs now...and moving is becoming more and more a reality...and I'm not sure what I think about that.  I've always seen it on the horizon, but....
I have a solo art show in August and I have nothing done to show for it.  I'm "in the middle" of three larger paintings for it but they seem so far away from being done, and that show seems so close.
I try to lead a creative life everyday...but sometimes it just doesn't happen.  I long to be painting giant things, and am always fiddling w/ little tiny art cards instead due to time and space requirements...and four year old requirements.
Oh we have some cute pics of H. to share...but I have to go now and will have to come back and add them later.
I made some really nice inkjet prints at a local print shop of a couple of paintings recently that turned out really nice...I'll have to post about that later too.
I guess I just wanted to say hello.
even though I've still got nothing.
Time to go pick up my niece from school.

    love ya!
