as we all know that gas has been going up like crazy, here are some tips i've learned over the years as a want to be mechanic. i drive an suv and had to fill up for like 90 bucks so every little bit helps. anyways.....
tip #1: i talked to a pep boys worker who used to work for a gas company and he says that cheveron is a good gas and it offers techron.
tip #2: check out "Lucas" it's an gas additive that gives you more miles to the gallon. think of it this way...if there is less friction, less work. less work on the engine means less gas to be used. i've switched from shell to cheveron and used lucas and i could testify to more miles to my very weak 14.1 mpg. if you notice, some oil pits are even advertising this stuff so your know it is good. it like the green tea for the car.
tip #3 consider getting a fuel injection cleaning. think of it like tartar in your teeth. the more tartar the less air will go through your teeth. so with your car, there will be less movement for gas to burn clean through your fuel system.
tip #4 check your air filter. if you haven't changed it or at least take a look at it every 30,000 it probably needs to be checked out. i suggest you get a k&n air filter. it is a little more costly than fram, but it doesn't need to be replaced (only washed and cleaned) and it will give you both better gas mileage and horsepower.
tip #5 i heard this from a mechanic on the news, but he said that the aerodynamics of a car generally performs optimally at 65mph. Usually cars waste the most gas stopping and going (that's why you get better mpg on fwy as oppose to city) and also accelerating fast because this requires more horsepower, thus wasting more gas. Even when you go over 65 it requires the car to push harder, and again wasting more gas.
tip #6 the classic tip is to check the pressure for the tires. have you ridden a mountain bike or a bike with a flat tire? it's hard to go and the same goes for car tires. they may look okay, but go by the tire suggestion. Usually pump it 5 psi less than your maxium. so if it says the max psi is 35, then pump it to 30 (ps. you are allowed to get free water and air at every gas station, so just ask it is free.
i'd say that if you try all these diff techniques, you might save and extra 5 miles to the gallon, so if you usually get 22 mph, you might get like 28 mph. hope that helps, now you have to give me a ride since you are saving so much gas now.
so my new favorite shoes are the nike frees. i learned about them awhile ago, but didn't think they looked that nice. well after a few years in the making they began making some pretty cool styles.
so i finally bought them and i love them. the black ones are nice too. but with anything you love requires much more care and as you can see they are white with mesh so they are hard to clean. usually i put them in the washer but i always felt there was a better way and i finally found out how. yeah there are shoe cleaners out there, but i have even a better way and the shoes come out spotless. there is basically two secret things. the first one is a special pumice soap for clothes and the other is a pressure washer. put these two things together and you have the makings of a trade secret. i feel like i could make money doing "shoe drycleaning" but most people don't care to have their shoes that white.
first time in orlando florida. i thought it was going to be nicer but the area was more like long beach. it turned out that i was also staying at a motel on something like on beach blvd.(i don't have pics of it, but i'm sure you can imagine), i realized something was wrong was when i was sitting at the bus stop and two black women would walk by me and then the skinny one of the two would turn back and sit next to me. she was trying to make her services known, but i was like totally eating my breakfast and ignoring her. then her friend saw nothing was happening, so she asks me if she could sit right next to me. i said "sure this is a public place." then she told her friend to leave, but she stay and whips out of her pocket bible and starts reading out of revelations. i was sort of confused to see a prostitute sitting next to me reading her bible, while i'm at the bus stop, trying to go to a church planting conference. i thought about talking to her about spiritual things like tony campolo did when he met some prostitutes in a cafe, but i was weaksauce and didn't know what to say.
unlike the rest of orlando, disneyworld is beautiful.
anyways, the conference was pretty good. it was refreshing to hear from speakers who were really good speakers talking about "doing church." i'm writing up my learnings and will have it available if anyone wants to see what i learned, but i have to say that rick warren is better in person than what people have criticized him for. also, tim keller is freakin wise and he knows how to answer questions. and if you want to know more about post modernism try to listen to a guy named Bill Easum.
