My frustration at politicians and, indirectly, used car salesmen was raised today when I read my buddy
Matt's latest blog. And so while I should be writing about other newsy things for various classes, I'll take a time out and voice my thoughts about John Tory and his PC (read: Piece-a Crap) party's desire to fund all faith-based schools.
I am by no means a political junkie. But I am a regular Joe Schmoe of the public, and as such, I know what I like and what I don't like. And unless someone points out how grossly misinformed I am, which is always possible, here's my take on funding faith-based schools.
Don't do it, asswipes.
If the centre of this debate is about treating all religions equally, then there should either be funding for all schools, or funding for no schools (our beloved, crumbling public shacks exempt). It is impossible to UNfund Catholic schools because our educational system is based on the Catholic school, so guarantees the BNA.
It's even more impossible to fund all religions. I don't know about the lot of you folks still in high school, but my high school career was marred with strikes, cuts, and closures. What does this show? Our schools can barely afford the current system, let alone the few billion dollars more needed for other religions. So should we cut more from our cash-strapped schools and provide meagre funding for other religious schools so that all schools average out at Level Dumb so that we can all suffer from lower standards of education so that a few religious extremists can feel equal?
Why not take what little savings the government can scrounge up to improve current programs? Most high schools have ethnic committees and clubs up the wazoo, why not build on those?
I credit John Tory with having some used car salesman qualities in him, so I'll give him some intelligence and say that he's just trying to play it smart to get votes. Canada's got more visible "minorities" than caucasians. Tory was an idiot and lost the Aboriginal vote with the stint in Caledonia, so he's working on the rest of our multiculturalism, preying on the ignorant, the ones who moved here for the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Sorry to break it to you, but it all comes at a cost.
Of course, this is all my two cents. Feel free to disagree, but if you do, please lick my left nut.
