As I was lying in bed yesterday morning, clenching my teeth, curled in the fetal position and cursing my uterus for turning against me and putting me through so much hell after I'd taken such good care of it, I decided one thing:
Evolution has failed us. Or science. Or both.
The human body is supposed to change with the years, yes? But now, with so many women putting off having children, or waiting for a more financially stable time, or only having one or two children, why oh WHY must we go through having a period for a good 40-some-odd years when the window for procreation is limited to a year or three!?
Women should be biologically infertile right about now! We should be taking the Pill to make us fertile! Think of how much this would benefit us! No more unwanted teen pregnancies, no more lives ruined by having a kid, no more frustration for those who just can't have a baby, no more controversy over abortion, no pregnancy scares, no need for Plan B, no more excuses about not being able to swim or go partying because of debilitating cramps, blah blah blah. Nothing but children who are wanted and will be loved, not seen as an accident forevermore.
How sexually liberating!
Oh yes, and Dir en grey's Dozing Green PV isn't as big of a disappointment as I thought it would be. I actually found myself liking the song more after watching the video. That, my friends, is a good PV make. It's surprisingly not as morbid as the last few videos. Bonus: it's mildly coherent. Go Dir en grey, hope isn't all lost.
But really, the song should end around the 3:25 mark.
I've been immersed in the production of my radio documentary lately, which means that I've been eating, breathing, sleeping, and dreaming journalism and all related topics. My doc this term is about high school bullying, a topic that is close to me.
I went to a private school in my elementary days. Which means that the students were mostly wealthier, snottier, and more spoiled than the milk sitting in my fridge right now. These were the kids that called me poor and insisted that I must be on welfare when I switched to the public school system rather than move on to one of the other more prestigious private schools (read: other super expensive schools which don't really give you that much of an edge once you graduate).
These kids were not kind to me, and for good reason. I was taller than everyone in my class, skinnier, lankier, oblivious to any notion of social grace, and just all around awkward. The braces didn't help. And the Harry Potter glasses were not a symbol of cool back then.
I followed my mother's advice when I was a kid. You know, the usual "if you ignore the bully, they'll get bored and go away." It resonates in my head still, and I curse my younger idiot self for not having the guts to retaliate back then. That sentence is as useless as landing an interview after the article is due (see? too much journalism.)
Do not ignore the bully. It will get worse. The people that I have spoken to for my doc are testament to that. I am testament to that. Give 'em a good swift kick in the balls, do the explaining later.
On that note, Dir en grey's new Dozing Green single is coming out in two days. It was leaked a few days ago, and I wasn't even aware O_o. I might not feel the same level of obsession that I did for so many years before, but it still gives me a thrill of anticipation.
So ya wanna save the world single handedly, do ya?
After much thinking, I've come to the conclusion that there are two ways to do this, and only two. Before we start, let's think about the greatest global issues we face right now: war, famine, disease, global warming, and stupid people.
Here's how to get rid of the problem: Get rid of half of half the world's population. Now wait, before you try to flame me to death, you need to hear the reasoning. We can get rid of the overpopulation. Wipe out the disease. Drastically reduce pollution and everything related to it. And there will finally be enough resources for everyone in the world. It's survival of the fittest! Keep the strong and intelligent, and weed out the weak. It sounds crass, but that's the only way to fix the sad state that our world is in. Of course, deciding who to lose and who to keep is a whole other can of worms....
My frustration at politicians and, indirectly, used car salesmen was raised today when I read my buddy Matt's latest blog. And so while I should be writing about other newsy things for various classes, I'll take a time out and voice my thoughts about John Tory and his PC (read: Piece-a Crap) party's desire to fund all faith-based schools.
I am by no means a political junkie. But I am a regular Joe Schmoe of the public, and as such, I know what I like and what I don't like. And unless someone points out how grossly misinformed I am, which is always possible, here's my take on funding faith-based schools.
Don't do it, asswipes.
If the centre of this debate is about treating all religions equally, then there should either be funding for all schools, or funding for no schools (our beloved, crumbling public shacks exempt). It is impossible to UNfund Catholic schools because our educational system is based on the Catholic school, so guarantees the BNA.
It's even more impossible to fund all religions. I don't know about the lot of you folks still in high school, but my high school career was marred with strikes, cuts, and closures. What does this show? Our schools can barely afford the current system, let alone the few billion dollars more needed for other religions. So should we cut more from our cash-strapped schools and provide meagre funding for other religious schools so that all schools average out at Level Dumb so that we can all suffer from lower standards of education so that a few religious extremists can feel equal?
Why not take what little savings the government can scrounge up to improve current programs? Most high schools have ethnic committees and clubs up the wazoo, why not build on those?
I credit John Tory with having some used car salesman qualities in him, so I'll give him some intelligence and say that he's just trying to play it smart to get votes. Canada's got more visible "minorities" than caucasians. Tory was an idiot and lost the Aboriginal vote with the stint in Caledonia, so he's working on the rest of our multiculturalism, preying on the ignorant, the ones who moved here for the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Sorry to break it to you, but it all comes at a cost.
Of course, this is all my two cents. Feel free to disagree, but if you do, please lick my left nut.
