Dan's sister Michelle got married on 7-7-07 at 7pm. I drove down to North Carolina with Dan and his brother Jason last weekend for it. Here are some pics.

So many changes since the last time I wrote although it has not been that long! First...I am a college grad! Finally! It feels really good to be done! I was voted by my peers to be the student speaker so I had to make a speech and it went really well. I might try to upload the video to this site....we'll see. Also, I have a new man in my life, Dan Williams is his name. I met him at Pulse, the young adult church service I go to weekly. I had seen him every week but just never talked to him. He struck up a conversation with me one week and asked for my number the next. He is a very kind hearted, sweet guy who is so passionate about his Jesus. He loves to evangelize and just was telling me today about how he witnessed to a random guy at the mall. He is energetic, outgoing, fun and talkative. He is a car mechanic and loves four wheeling, snowmobiling and taking me out for rides on his motorcycle. He is amazing and I feel so blessed to have him in my life.  He is constantly encouraging me and pushing me in my faith. What a rare find and a treasure he is!!! Also, I will be going to Wales for three months in the fall to apprentice with a very famous potter named Phil Rogers.  I am so very excited about it. One of my professors introduced me to him at the ceramics convention I went to in Kentucky over spring break. I also started a job working at a natural foods grocery store and I LOVE IT. I work in produce which is amazing because I get to look and touch (and eat) colorful fruits and veggies all day long! Wow...so many things God has blessed me with. Well, I'm bringing some food to Danny at work. Enjoy these photos.

The kiln was a definate sucess! We began firing at 6 am Saturday morning and finished at 3:30 am Monday morning. I worked the first and last shift so I got to see both extremes. It was a blast working with my friends- lots of food, fun and fire.  At its hottest the kiln is about 2300 degrees.  Firing it is a balance between knowing when to put wood in, when to wait and when to adjust the damper. It is a lot of work but the pieces come out beautifully. I love the experience of helping fire a community kiln.

I am sitting in Panera Bread using their wireless because we had a SNOWDAY! I could have really used the studio time today...oh well...I got some much needed sleep. My body likes me now. The wood kiln is cooling right now and will be unloaded on Saturday. It's going to be a crazy next couple of days because we are having an overnight at school on Friday then unloading on Saturday morning. We are all going to be pretty loopy! I have lots of work to get done so the overnight will be fun. A bunch of students and profs will be there. We are going to have some fun little contests such as 10-minute teapots, who can throw the most cups in an hour and who can make the tallest cylinder with 1 1/2 lbs of clay. There is a small family-owned mexican place on Amherst st that is frequented often by NHIA students. They volunteered to cook a late dinner for us for free. The food is so good and the people who run the place are real nice. Overall it should be fun. Plus Easter weekend is here- it came so fast. Easter is my favorite holiday because it reminds me more than any other day the hope I can profess because of Christ. Resurrection Sunday is such a joyful time. We are having a Good Friday service too which will likely be sobering. It is so easy to forget what our Lord did for us.  What an AMAZING GOD I serve!

I will post some photos later of the woodfiring. You open the door to put the wood in and sometimes the flames are several feet high! It is awesome! I can't wait to unload it. If anyone wants to see a bunch of overtired, excited potters and some really beautiful work, come to Jeff Brown's studio in Northwood on Satuday morning. It will be a good time.

What an exciting few weeks I have had! I went to Kentucky for my spring break for a big ceramics conference called NCECA. It was a GREAT trip and worth every penny.  I made some really great contacts and interviewed with the grad schools and residency I applied to. Probably the most exciting contact was a man named Phil Rogers who is a very well known and respected potter from England. I was introduced to him by one of my professors, John Baymore. Phil asked me what my plans were after graduation then told me he has an apprentiship program in England. Perhaps I will apply for it...we'll see. I had such a fun time with all my friends. One morning I woke up and my abs were sore just from laughing so hard. We stayed up till the wee morning hours just talking about art and the things we had seen during the day. What an amazing experience! Here is a group picture of all of us-

All of these people are in the BFA ceramics program. Here is a picture of me with some of the pots I bought.

This week I am doing two different firings. For one of my classes we built two kilns. We are firing one of them for the first time this week. It is a new firing process called Soda firing. We spray a special mixture directly into the kiln at peak temperature.  It will be great to see the results. I am also participating in a wood firing. This is the fourth one I have participated in.This time it is all students from school who are firing. It will take the whole weekend to fire. We started loading today and will finish it tomorrow.  One of the students has a really nice big camper he is going to park for the weekend so we can sleep there. It also has an oven and a tv and stuff. So that will be fun but unloading the kiln will be the best of all. There is nothing better than seeing all the pots transformed by the fire. Here are some pictures from today. We had a fun time even though we were chilled to the bone.

I was the official one in charge for a while. My former professor Al Jaeger is participating. Below is my friend Justin in the empty kiln. The flames come in from the left through those tall ports. Beyond them is a chamber where we feed the wood. The heat and flame is pulled up and exits through the chimney which is on the opposite wall. It follows the shape of the arch and kisses all the pots.  Between all the excitement from NCECA and the kilns there is some great energy in the studio and amongst the students. What a great place to be!
