I think that the obsession with weight and image is MAINLY just in America. We are the country that has the biggest population of people with eating disorders. Yes, I will say that eating disorders are not all about the weight, but most start out that way and get out of control for other reasons. 1 in 100 people in America are diagnosed with an eating disorder. Back in 2003 I was diagnosed with Bulimia Nervosa. It did start out as a weight issue that started when I was in eighth grade. I wanted the boys to like me. Then when I got to highschool and had my first boyfriend I figured hey this is working, maybe I can get other things that I want this way too. But then it spirals out of control. I thought that the only way I could get things was to have to perfect body. I thought it was what people saw that attracted them to me. The people who think that a person has to have the perfect body to be involved with them are fucked up and could actually use some help themselves. (I'm not talking about the people that are obsessed with their own bodies, that is a disease. I'm talking about the people on the outside, signifigant others, "Friends", ect.) God made us all. We are all "perfect" in His eyes. Plus, there is no such thing as perfect. There is always some way to figure out a way to be better. The cycle never ends.
