two years (or so) later

Maybe time for an update?

I gave up my Sheetz apron about a year ago, forsaking sandwich assembly for full-time designing. After getting back on the job-hunting horse, and three months of campaigning, calling, and interviewing, I landed a job at a medium-sized ad firm in Akron. While I'm not making much more money, I have a normal Monday-Friday schedule, and actually get holidays off (with pay!), not to mention access to the free beer fridge. It's not rock-star work: I make direct mail and coupons and billboards and in-store signage, but I love the process itself. I get paid to do puzzles all day, fitting copy and packages and photos together on a page. We have a variety of clients, and I gotten to work on almost every account at some point, so things stay interesting. I've got great co-workers who are always willing to help when things get stressful, or join in some quality goofing around when things are slow. It has its frustrations, just like any job, but overall I love it.

On the domestic front, I'm still living in Cuyahoga Falls, in a cute little house with my Michael. I have recently discovered Terry Pratchett, and thus I've been clocking in lots of hours curled up with a book. I knit a bit, but less often than I'd like to. I don't spend much time on the computer recreationally anymore, as I sit in front of one all day at work, but I enjoy the occasional Stumble. I do a crossword puzzle almost every day. Occasionally, I'll grab a girlfriend and go out dancing on a Friday night. I spent today grocery shopping at Trader Joe's and having coffee and conversation with a friend. I've got a veggie pot pie in the oven, regardless of the fact that it's almost ten p.m. on a Saturday night, because I'm an adult and I'll damn well bake when I want to. And I don't just accept the geekiness factor, I embrace it.

Nothing's new, but every something's new. Life is blissfully normal.

Just thought you might like to know. ;)

hello xangafolk!

it's been a long time since i've updated this thingie, but i've been lurking.

things i've been up to:
*living the domestic life with michael in cuyahoga falls ohio
*freelancing in graphic design for a few different local firms
*working at the sheetz still, taking advantage of the benefits package and flexable hours. they actually want to promote me to assistant manager, which is a well-paid salaried position that i might take up if i don't find a full-time design job soon
*playing far too many video games

i'm totally psyched that it's soup weather! as much as winter is looming with it's evil promise of mucky snow and a ridiculous heating bill, october is fine with me.

i hope everyone is doing well!

laughter is sometimes better than crying.

then again, sometimes the attitude of adopting absurdity in the face of trial is downright inappropriate.

one can usually tell by others' reactions, but by then it's often too late to take it back.
