After getting back on the job-hunting horse, and three months of campaigning, calling, and interviewing, I landed a job at a medium-sized ad firm in Akron. While I'm not making much more money, I have a normal Monday-Friday schedule, and actually get holidays off (with pay!), not to mention access to the free beer fridge. It's not rock-star work: I make direct mail and coupons and billboards and in-store signage, but I love the process itself. I get paid to do puzzles all day, fitting copy and packages and photos together on a page. We have a variety of clients, and I gotten to work on almost every account at some point, so things stay interesting. I've got great co-workers who are always willing to help when things get stressful, or join in some quality goofing around when things are slow. It has its frustrations, just like any job, but overall I love it.

On the domestic front, I'm still living in Cuyahoga Falls, in a cute little house with my Michael. I have recently discovered Terry Pratchett, and thus
I've been clocking in lots of hours curled up with a book. I knit a bit, but less often than I'd like to. I don't spend much time on the computer recreationally anymore, as I sit in front of one all day at work, but I enjoy the occasional Stumble. I do a crossword puzzle almost every day. Occasionally, I'll grab a girlfriend and go out dancing on a Friday night. I spent today grocery shopping at Trader Joe's and having coffee and conversation with a friend. I've got a veggie pot pie in the oven, regardless of the fact that it's almost ten p.m. on a Saturday night, because I'm an adult and I'll damn well bake when I want to. And I don't just accept the geekiness factor, I embrace it.

Nothing's new, but every something's new. Life is blissfully normal.

Just thought you might like to know. ;)

Monday, October 10, 2005

hello xangafolk!

it's been a long time since i've updated this thingie, but i've been lurking.

things i've been up to:
*living the domestic life with michael in cuyahoga falls ohio
*freelancing in graphic design for a few different local firms
*working at the sheetz still, taking advantage of the benefits package
and flexable hours. they actually want to promote me to assistant
manager, which is a well-paid salaried position that i might take up if
i don't find a full-time design job soon
*playing far too many video games

i'm totally psyched that it's soup weather! as much as winter is
looming with it's evil promise of mucky snow and a ridiculous heating
bill, october is fine with me.

i hope everyone is doing well!

then again, sometimes the attitude of adopting absurdity in the face of trial is downright inappropriate.

one can usually tell by others' reactions, but by then it's often too late to take it back.
i'm gonna have a good time
Saturday, January 15, 2005

i should update this every three months, whether i feel like writing or not, right?

mostly wanted to post that in the process of moving out of the parents' abode, i stumbled across my sr. year of high school yearbook.there's a pic in there of tom hickey in drag.

it is hi-larious.

Friday, September 03, 2004

hi!

remember me?

i am kerri, girl of the scuzzy arts and random craziness. if you're xangaing you probably know me through bg or stow.

i still get xanga updates in the email, so yes, i've been cyberstalking you.
i never reply anymore though, and i apologize. my blogging time recently was ingested by livejournal.

but moving on....
i am actually updating because i actually have something to say that is not depressing or routine or random even.

today i had my first real interview with an art director.
it went really really well, and i have scored myself at least one
freelance project, with more to follow and possible full-time work if
they like my stuff.

i aced the quiz, i'm going to rock on the exam because my skillz are
fabulous, and even if the firm slows down and they run out of work to
farm out to the likes of me, i can put this in big ol' letters on my
resume.

I AM A FREELANCE GRAPHIC DESIGNER.
(professional and everything)

it only took 8 months to get here.
just thought some of you may like to know. ;)
Vladimir Putin's Presidential electoral victory was marred by many voting irregularities and was criticized by the United States.
So how does Putin respond to those criticisms?

"'We will listen to the critical statements, analyse them and, if we think there is something to think about, will draw the corresponding conclusions," [Putin] said.

But, Putin added, some "see the splinter in another's eye and ignore the log in his own".

"Four years ago, we watched in bewilderment how the US election system was failing," he said. "

(Hesiod hangs his head in shame).

And Putin really twisted the knife in Bush by using one of Dubyah's favorite biblical metaphors, too.

Hesiod // 3/15/2004 08:19:10 PM
from counterspin.blogspot.com
