What does it all mean?

It means that all of the KU fans who have yet to get over Coach Williams' departure get to simmer in their juices for the next 12 months, while he celebrates a National Championship.

It means that at least for the rest of the week, I'm pretty dang happy.

It means more money spent on championship merchandise, something a lot of folks around here don't have to worry about (HEHEHE).

It means I have the next 4 1/2 months without any organized sport, and getting to truly savor the last two, which ended of course, with wins.

It means I get nothing out of my pool, despite two more solid brackets, but hey, I'll take that ANY DAY.

And maybe most importantly, it means that Dook fans get to look at the number of championships won, and realize, that yes, they are again an inferior breed.

One last observation...all season long I have vehemently declared that one of Illinois' big men, James Augustine, was a chump and a stiff...his numbers tonight - 9 minutes, 0 points, 5 fouls...dang, I HATE it when I'm right (snickers).

Basically, I'll be whatever I want today and the rest of the week...the last two months for me personally have been hellish, to say the least...I'm going to enjoy and savor this one tremendously...Plus, you weren't on the other side in 2001, when Carolina fans had to listen to scads of KU people beating their chests and talking about how superior they were...and nowadays, you're not on the other side for all of the disparaging comments I hear about my team because Coach Williams left...do you realize that the greatest coach in college basketball history (Dean Smith) was born in Emporia, Kansas, played high school ball at Topeka High, and graduated from the University of Kansas...do you also realize that in his own birthplace, he's villified daily?...or that it doesn't matter that Coach Williams graduated from UNC and has really strong roots there?...he made the mistake in these people's minds to do what was best for his family and for his alma mater...and since I live in this area, I got to hear about it all during this tournament.

So if you think my comments merit me a dick for the day, that's fine, so be it...just put yourself in my shoes for a couple of minutes, and maybe you'll get why.

You took away your e-props! That's cold.

The only issue that I had with your post was this line:

It means more money spent on championship merchandise, something a lot of folks around here don't have to worry about (HEHEHE)

I don't care how crappy your life has been, it's not an excuse to be a jerk and rub this in everybody's faces. As a follower of his for 15 years, I'm absolutely happy for Roy, but it's still supremely bittersweet when the fans of his new team brag about being better than the school and the fans with which he was affiliated and loved for so long. This town has some amazing, die-hard fans, and we've been without a championship (save the Wizards' MLS cup a couple years ago) since 1988, the year Larry Brown took KU to the peak as an 8 seed. It is completely disrespectful to say something like the above in the wake in that. Again, yes, I value you without question as a friend- you know that. But I also can't sit back and watch my beloved teams and city be disparagd in such a toss-off manner. We will still believe.

Outside of that, hey, I'm happy for you. North Carolina has the world to be pround of. Congratulations on the victory. Hopefully, we'll be able to do another 2-hour sports chat like back in day sometime soon (ah, B&N...). I just wanted to put this out there and make sure we came to an understanding about why I was angry. I'm sure you got crap back in the day from KU fans, but unfortunately I can't apologize for each and every one of them. The two decisions were up to only one man, after all~ Obviously, you guys should FEEL vindicated after the victory. Talk to you later, Kevin.

Sincerely,

Kyle

P.S. Yeah, I knew about the Dean Smith connections. I think we at KU were hoping that Roy would follow the same pattern (growing up in one place, becoming a legend in another), but it wasn't meant to be.
