Daniel Chavira's "Enmascarados" - March 15 – April 12, 2008

Michael Kohn Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of photographs by Los Angeles-based artist Daniel Chavira. Inspired by the Lucha Libre masks worn by Mexican wrestlers, Chavira explores the line between artifice and reality while taking intimate, salon-style portraits of these iconic figures. Chavira’s body of work explores the double-life of these “heroic” masked men. While enticing the viewer with their anonymity, Chavira invites one to speculate what is possibly underneath the masks that the luchadores wear.

After selling out Manhattan’s Webster Hall, Kaiju Big Battel’s More Better Fighto Tour continues with a precarious pit-stop in Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday, March 29th at Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel. For one night only, 1,200 bloodthirsty spectators will witness the return of the fabled Kaiju Danger Cage.
An epic showdown between Kaiju Champion Call-Me-Kevin and the number-one-contender,” Dusto Bunny is already slated for this exciting night of live monster mayhem, not to mention 37 blocks of crushable cityscape. Steam Powered Tentacle Boulder, Team Space Bug, and Dr. Cube’s Posse of mutant miscreants will also contend for Danger Cage supremacy.
