(1) The Nitrogen Cycle (now nitrogen is cycled through plants and the earth), and (2) HIV/AIDS. that was an interesting presentation. basically the virus infects every cell that keeps your body healthy, and destroys it. with med's, you'll be lucky to live 20+ years. i calculated the rate of reproduction of this virus. it came to around 150,000 virions/second.. or something ridiculous like that. I got an A in that class.

physics is a joke. it's not worth the energy to type it out. that would take more energy than i'm putting in to the class.

i'm working as a chemistry tutor at ASU poly's library. i like it here. my bosses are chill. the students can be weird though. i had one girl brag about how she's such an amazing student, then pull out a paper with a big red F on it. interesting. i had another lady ask me persistently to help her with a subject that i know nothing about. she was very intimidating and kept insisting that i help her. awkward. then you get pleasant people who you understand and get along with. those are fun. i get paid to help people and update my xanga *cough*

i'm volunteering at a low-income medical/dental clinic this semester (and next). it's very interesting. i'm standing up the whole day filing, or pulling, or doing anything else the manager wants me to do. i like it actually. that surprised me. i love my co-workers, and i've made good friends with one of the doctors there. i'm getting a lot of good experience doing this right now.

i'm still going for dentistry. i feel like this is where God has called me to be, but we'll see what happens. i'm trying not to think "i'm going to be a dentist" because God can change it whenever He wants. "If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans." but i'm studying hard, trying to keep my GPA up, and doing anything else i can do to better my chances of getting into the school. i'm eyeing one out here. it's focused on community service, and i'm interested in that. i have 3 options for paying off my school though.
(1) get a scholarship. sign a contract, but then work at the poorest of clinics for X amount of years.
(2) loan repayment. sign a contract to work at poor clinics, get around a $30k signing bonus, a salary, and $25k/yr off your loan. then say you'll work X many years.
(3) the army. if i enlist as a dentist, i'd be instantly promoted to captain. they require 1 year of service for every 1 year of school. so i'd be looking at 4-6 years depending on if i continue for a specialty.
I love it so it's worth the schooling for it. i have to start studying for the DAT (dental aptitude test) right now. i'm taking it next summer, but i can't be too prepared for it. it scores out of 30. anything above 20 is almost a guarantee acceptance, the average is an 18. i know geniuses in my classes that walked away with an 18. needless to say i'm intimidated, hence the starting early. it's what i take joy in, so i'm pursuing it.

*sigh* what else...

relationships.. those are fun. not surprisingly.. i'm still single. i'm content, and actually happy being single. i don't want a girl in my life. the cost money and time.. this picture basically explains it..
http://academic.evergreen.edu/m/mrukat08/Highschoolpics/girls-are-evil.jpg
i'm not ready yet. God is still preparing me, and i have a long way to go (trust me). with the family.. it's super. i looove my little sister. she's great. she's always there to slap my ego back into reality (which is needed a lot). but she gives great insights and observations of things that i wouldn't see. parents are fabulous. we got a puppy so my mom is taking care of him right now. a lot of work haha..

i'm not sure if there's anything else yall would want to hear about. let me know if there is...

-kevin

wow!

so... i took off my "white collar" today and put on a blue one. and i rubbed a little grease into it.

so my car battery died. i had my neighbor come over to look at it, because he's good at car things. he asked to see a flathead screwdriver. i stood there like i didn't know what he was talking about.. (in reality, i didn't know where we keep them). our philosophy about tools is, "Never use a tool, never lose a tool." well my grandpa must have used it (couldn't be me or dad) because i didn't know where one was. i found one after a few mins.. eventually we chose to charge the battery overnight. it didn't hold the charge, so i rolled up my sleeves and took the battery out. yeah my hands got all greasy (manicure time haha)..

well i got a new battery at wal-mart. they asked if they would do the installation, and i said "No i'm going to do it." this lady gave me (what seemed) a condescending look of, "oh.. and do you know where the car battery goes?" well i got home and decided to give it a try. so i got rid of some acidic buildup (since i'm a chemist.. i DO know how to get rid of acid stuff).. then i stuck the battery in my car (no not the back seat.. i actually put it in the correct spot.. the glove box!) and fastened it in tight. all of a sudden the hood light goes on! i thought "wow, this could actually work!" well sure enough i started my car and it worked. so now i can add that to my list of accomplishments, along with cleaning the pool and yard mowing....

so i can take pride that i've changed a battery with no instructions! i should think about becoming an engineer if i can do things without directions. well maybe not. i think that Budweiser should make a "real american heroes" commercial about me or something..

which one?

so i really can't decide. i've "observed" 3 different gentleman in movies/tv, but can't decide which one is better, and why. so what do you think??

Mr. Darcy - pride & prejudice

Gilbery Blythe - anne (with an e) of green gables

Denny - gray's anatomy

i like each of them.. but can't choose a favorite. what do you think....?? Often these
terms are used interchangeably. This is not acceptable in polite
society. To avoid further offense, here are some foolproof ways to
tell one from the other.

Steps [edit]

To determine if the individual in question is a geek or a nerd,
first engage the person in conversation.

Within in a few minutes, a nerd will be revealed. This
individual will be positively gushing with information on a
specific topic and cannot wait to talk about it. Oftentimes, the
subject nerd will disregard eye contact and avoid any
acknowledgement that they are involved in a two-way
conversation.

If, within a few minutes, the individual is able to steer clear
of a dogmatic desire to talk about a specific topic, you may have a
geek on your hands, or perhaps a dork. However, this article is not
about identifying dorks. But for the sake of science, I will make a
clarifying statement: A dork is a geek with well developed social
skills. A geek, on the other hand, does not have the dogged
determination like a nerd to stay on one topic. They are more
rounded than nerds.

Tips [edit]

Another way to tell a nerd from a geek is a simple bedroom or
'hobby room' visit. A nerd will have a single theme throughout. It
will be right in line with what the person has been talking about
the entire walk to their bedroom door. A geek may have a single
theme - but it may be completely different than any topic you have
discussed up to this point.

A nerd is someone who obsesses over a single topic in lieu of
acceptable socialization skills; a geek, on the other hand, is
merely more knowledgeable than average about a specific topic, and
is far more likely to be socially competent.

Geek can also be a positive title, esp. when addressing
technical skill with computers. Nerd is almost always a negative
description, despite similarities of knowledge.

In common parlance, a geek is a nerd with employable
attributes. Or, in other words, a nerd who can get a job related to
their passions. A computer nerd who does tech support is a geek, a
Star Trek nerd who gets a job in visual effects is a geek.

Warnings
 [edit]

Nerds can be unaware of their "nerd-dom". They may or may not
be offended by being considered a nerd. It is best to allow them to
talk about their topic without interruption. If you have a question
about anything they have said DO NOT ASK IT!! You will become
trapped! A question is seen as a sure sign of passion for their
topic. In the end the only way to break away is to allow the nerd
to talk themselves to the point that they need sleep, food, a
bathroom break, or a previously arranged unavoidable engagement.
Otherwise, you will be forced to be rude to them to get away.

Geeks are aware of their geekdom, for the most part. Be careful
though in discussing their topic. They are more aware of other
people's feelings and body language, but may still be prone to
mistaking a look of painful boredom as a hint of interest.

Some nerds/geeks/whatevers are quite antisocial and may not
want to talk to you at all. Do not be touchy - they are the way
they are. At least they know pi to 294 decimal places!

Good luck - be strong!

Monday, July 16, 2007

last week of summerschool... then hume lake!!!!
sweet

so yesterday, I took a private tour of the A.T.
