Next Up~

My dear cousin Joi needed some "head shots" -- we'd been trying to get together to do this for sometime, and this past weekend it finally fit our schedules. Well, the shoot ended up being lots more than headshots - there were just too many great backdrops in the area for us to pass up... and creativity got the best of us.

But since headshots was our goal, I thought how fun it would be, and different after posting so many from my last shoot that were not head shots, to just make that the topic of this post ~ after all, I happen to think she is a super easy gal to do headshots of and I've had several of you message and ask my opinion or advice on what it means to get a "good headshot."

Typically, rule of thumb, a head shot is NOT this: (but these have great color and smiles!)

But rather, upper arms and above - and sometimes, even just the head area.

Big things to watch out for when taking head shots:
-make sure there are not any arms or shoulders in the back that are not in focus coming out of the side of the face or neck - it makes the person's head appear to be held up by, or propped up on something other than her neck. Not good. Out of the 200 shots I took, I managed to capture one just for demonstration~

Other things to watch for:
One eye in focus, the other not. (but I still really like this shot~ !)

Hair across the face: (managed two of these on our windy evening too - course you could "fix" this but that's not where I like to be spending my time: editing hair across the face.)

And of course the angle and crop of the head.

Typically head shots are vertical: (but I like to think they can be horizontal and look just as good or better)

Joi was easy to work with and the lighting the other evening was awesome! I've got dozens of headshots here, but here are just a few that have stood out to me so far:

Gotta go get all these pics done and on cd for you Joi! I'll give you a call when they're ready to go -- you'll have lots of fun ones to go through!

So good seeing you Cuz !

More Where She Came From...

So I was talking about Mandy in my last post... well, she's one of six sisters (and three brothers too) - and here are the oldest three:

I just love how they are all so beautifully unique from each other ~ and yet, look a like at the same time. :) It was so fun y'all! Thanks for making me apart of your plans this past weekend ~

Single Shots~

Okay, so I probably shouldn't say this, but seriously, this gal has got to be one of the best catches in our area (and her sisters too!). Not just because she's striking, but because she is as sweet as they come and loves God and others. I've met few young women her age who help others, and do it not for their credit and to make a name for themselves. She's the real deal. She's just a super great person inside and out.

Thanks Mandy! My kiddos still like to talk about the times you've come over and the fun stories you've told them!

Out of the Box/Fun shots:

(who says white girls can't jump?)

(I love this barn!)

Thanks girls for being such good sports~ :) Trying things and backgrounds that aren't just your regular stuff. It was so much fun!

Black and Whites First~

There are so many I would like to post... so I probably just will. We went for some really random ideas on the pictures along with the traditional shots... which I think look really fun in black and white:
