What is Tradition?

So what is tradition? Is it being comfortable? Is tradition comfortable? Is that why we are afraid to let it go, because it is comfortable? Sometimes being wrong really is comfortable. Sin is comfortable. Examples: You have been having un-wed improper relations with your guy or girl. To stop is uncomfortable, almost awkward. You may even be convicted for this and feel bad each time, but to stop-oh, to stop is inconvienent, uncomfortable, awkward. Webster says tradition is a "continuing pattern of culture beliefs or practices". So you could say the exampled practice is a tradition. WAIT CHRIS! I thought tradition were good. Are all traditions good? I don't believe so.

What is heritage? Webster says heritage is "something that comes or belongs to one by reason of birth". In other words, and noun that we own from our birth. What we are born into and are given because it was there before us and is "inherited" to us. So ... what happens if we don't want what was once before us. If our long lost evil uncle willed to us the depths of Hell we then have been inherited this. Does it make it right? If we throw the word "heriTAGE" does it make it good? I wouldn't think so. If the idea of racism (idea=noun) is in herited to us, does the fact that we use the excuse "It's our heritage!" justify racism?! I certainly don't think so.

So if traditions and heritages can be wrong, then how can we use those words as backbones and excuses for our behaviour?
The Confederate Flag is a heritage they say. History-yes, heritage even yes it is. But using the word heritage doesn't make it right. When is the right time to point out our mistake in our heritage, society, and tradition!? The Confederacy was a mistake. Swallow it. A mistake. Grow up, it was a mistake. Slavery was a big mistake. White supremacy is a mistake. Yes these are all heritages given to us here in the south, traditions passed by even as modern generations as our fathers, and most importantly they are all mistakes and that needs to be pointed out.
Are we afraid to disagree with the ones who pass the tradition? Would it make us less of men to disagree. I say it makes us real men and women to disagree. It takes a REAL individual to have an opinion and to stand up for what is right. (To define what right is read Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis, first chapter)

We are selling ourselves short. To rely on our "Founding Fathers", who's crap stunk just as must as ours, to have paved the best direction for a country that hadn't even begun.
WE ARE HERE NOW. 2006. As crazy as it is now, we have to make things work NOW. Not work 200 years in the past. But now. If something in the consitution isn't working let's take care of that. Things change. Situations change. We've done it before. Let's not stop progressing. Let's not hold on to things that aren't necessary for today or tomorrow. The past is the past, but today is today. CARPE DEIM!
If we spend our time holding on to the past we will miss today. Ladies and gentleman I believe we have been absent for a while, and I don't want to be cut from this class.
Somethings do work forever. All those things have been deemed good by the Law of Human Nature (C.S. Lewis) work forever, the basics ya know? And for us believers God has been deemed good for reasons unecessary to explain.

UNA is awesome so far.

I asked a lot of questions in this blog. What do you guys think? Let us never stop asking questions or we will sink.
