Dearest Vanessa, I really enjoyed that one time we went to the gym. I think we should do it again! I have decided to make my regular gym times Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 or 10:00. I will also probably hit it up either Friday or Saturday night at 9:00. So, if you're interested in any of these times please let me know! Sincerely, Kirsten P.S. everyone else on the internet is also invited to join us! Hey! Who knew about the public forum on the proposed road through Laurentian? It was yesterday night at 7. It went pretty okay. the lower Frasier was almost filled, but it would have been so cool if the entire place had been mobbed. A lot of important - some of them shocking - points brought up. You all know that the proposed 2-lane road is going to completely destroy the amazing network of Laurentian trails. they say that there is the possibility of making tunnels beneath the roads for skiiers to pass through. At the meeting, one skier said, "I don't know about these tunnels. The last time I checked, it doesn't snow in tunnels." Plus, a huge part of the sport is enjoying the tranquility and beauty of our landscape. Has anyone ever tried to do any sort of aerobic excercise by a busy street? It's possibly the least pleasant way to go about things. Oh! When the shopping complex is built in the South End, they plan to turn the 2-lane road into a four lane highway! OKAY IF YOU'RE BORED, JUST SKIM TO HERE. THIS IS THE FREAKY PART. Only one guy mentioned this at the meeting because it is still not widely known. Apparently, it is under investigation by some LU geologists. The rocks in Sudbury are very porous, so they let water come through fairly easily. When they started blasting in the South End, they encountered water from a mysterious source. The water is now thought to have come from Lake Nepawhan. IF BLASTING CONTINUES IN THIS AREA, THERE IS THE DISTINCT POTENTIAL THAT BENNETT LAKE WILL BE DRAINED. This whole area is an important water shed. We have a great number of lakes here in Sudbury and the surrounding area. These lakes are all connected via complex network. If we affect one lake, we are going to affect them all. We need to stop this. Considering the future influence that this road is going to have on our wildlife, our student wellness, the Laurentian University facilities, the Sudbury community, and now the entire Northern Ontario ecosystem, the Frasier should have been crushed under a mob of people. The public forum was very short notice, and VERY poorly advertised (except for some excellent efforts from Kyle and Natalie). The city (i.e. Dalron developpers) want this to go through. We have to let them know that we will not allow our environment to be destroyed, especially when Sudbury is finally starting to look green again. There will be a city meeting, and I am going to do everything I can to let people know. The public meeting is going to be our last chance to stop this from happening. |
