The latter of the two is more of a "...worth a thousand words" type review of the trip that is also kind-of-though-i-wish-it-weren't counting down the days with 22 of my favorite pictures / most defining moments of the trip. Either way, take a look.

and i'll see you fairly soon.

chau,
-nick

Monday, November 06, 2006

so i know it's been a while, but i'm sure you're all checking the http://www.wam.umd.edu/~nmburka for more argentine updates aren't you?

Everything is swell and chipper here in the south.

But my reason for writing today is an interesting musi / internet epiphany I had recently.

I think that Chris Cornell of Audioslave would sound amazing singing the Red Hot Chili Pepper's hit Under the Bridge. acoustically.

Think about it: he's got this powerful, dramatic voice, and wonderful ability to alter a song to fit the mood.

If you need more proof, check these out.

First: RHCP - Under the Bridge (acoustic)

Second: Chris Cornell - Like a Stone (acoustic)

simply marvelous.

okay, good night.
-nick

Sunday, September 24, 2006

and for my australian viewers

and a merry Shana Tova u'mtukah to all you out there wherever you may be.

Me? Also, look up the definition of the word "dignity" because I have a feeling that the writer doesn't quite know what it really means.

Then, read this (an editorial in today's Washington Post written by a former US Ambassador to the UN) and write a letter thanking the writer for reminding the public--or at least, those who read the op-ed pages--that this battle, though yes, bloody and strong, is a showing of self-defense. I can't say I agree with all that the writer says later on in the article, but...

And finally...read this because you want to know how things are in Buenos Aires.

Thanks all.

-Nick

we have update...

http://www.wam.umd.edu/~nmburka

I have been updating my argentine journal about every three days or so. check it out.

thanks,

-nick

we now go live to our correspondent in Argentina

yes folks i've been here just under a week and let me say. it's been fun thus far. but. please look to http://www.wam.umd.edu/~nmburka for continuing updates. i'd rather keep it simple.

take care,
-nick

Thursday, June 22, 2006

I want to be your absolute ultimate
Want to be your only one now
Feel the wave come up from your sulkiness
Feel the rays you radiate now

Sweet and plain unsingable name
That rings in my mind now
That strums me like a string
Shine, unsingable name
Over everything

Beware the thrum of hearts in your presence and
Watch the breeze that snaps at you now
All the dogs that bark from the fences and
Everything is wanting for you
Smirk on the face and fists in the clenches and
Make the radiator blow now
Crack the planks and shatter the lenses and
Mix the salt, the sugar and flour

Slushing, sleeting through the blue gloom
Some long bell's lonely ring
Chime, unsingable name
Over everything

I want to see the mountains in silhouette
Want to split for Singapore now
I want to see the mystery trees
Want to hear the womanly sound

t-minus eighteen hours.

-nick

ps. i'll be attempting to update at the website with a few pictures and journal entries from abraoad. if that doesn't work, I'll continue using this account. enjoy. and take care.

Wednesday, June 14, 2006

i don't usually do this.

rarely at best.

but,

president george walker bush is a dickhead.

the following is pulled, nearly fully correct, from one of those "for-the-people" type press conferences he likes to have.

"the progress [in iraq] is steady.
