Well, its been a while.........

I said from the beginning I was not a frequent poster and so it is true!

Both of our lil hermit crabs have died.....The first one to die was dd's favorite; the one with the most 'personality'; dd cried for a couple of hours. Sure enough, 3 weeks to the day, the other one died. I had suspected it was dying the week before. She was not as upset when that one died.

We have finished our school year and will restart in July. Dd came down with a 'fever virus' that lasted 9 days and let me tell ya, that stuff is wicked; I wish it on no one. She is now fever-free, but has a nasty cough---not often, but when it hits, its nasty sounding. We have been housebound for about 1 1/2 weeks and are pretty much stir crazy. We have an opportunity to get out Monday and stay gone for a few hours; I sure hope all works out because I am more than ready to see something else.

We have three tomato plants growing in containers---one is a cherry tomato, one is a Better Boy and the other is a Roma tomato. We have wee little maters on the cherry plant--about the size of a very small round green pea. They are so cute. I have a few green ones on the Roma plant. The Better Boy plant has about 3 doz flowers and about 5 golf ball size tomatoes......now watch them alllllllll get ripe at the same time! We love fresh tomatoes.....last year, them ole ugly green hornworms got my plants and I was not a happy camper. They ate one plant overnight!!!!!!!!!!!! So I had to ditch my garden last year....even the cucumbers. We are keeping it simple this year.

A new Bible Study for me

Last fall, our church offered a Beth Moore Bible Study, The Patriarchs, and I participated. It was very deep at times, let me tell ya....but I learned so much and thoroughly enjoyed the study. Last week, our group started her Daniel study. I am so looking forward to this one too. I know I will learn something during the next 11 weeks. I am pleased too that my hubby agreed that I could do these 2 studies; for him to agree to stay with dd is amazing.

Our part of Alabama had some SNOW last weekend! Its been years since this area saw it. In our area, we had about an inch; just 4 miles north of here they had almost 5"!!!!!!!!!!! We should have gone to the country to see the beauty! Oh yes, its woody here and we had just enough to be beautiful. Dd had so much fun out in it. She built a 'snow baby' with pecans for eyes; made several snow angels and many snowballs that she threw at me and her Daddy. She had fun, was wet and frozen, but she had FUN and I got some great pictures of a rare event here in these parts!

A Very Happy Happy New Year To All!

I wish for all my friends, a very blessed New Year in our Lord.

So many of us have trials right now that are beyond our scope of vision, but He is there for us, if we just call on Him. I hope you had a very blessed Christmas and now that the holidays are over, we can proceed with what our ministry calls us to do.

I will try to be more diligent with my blog this year. I am NOT a writer, so blogging is hard for me. I do well just to get thank you notes written, much less blogging!!!!!

Last Friday morning after dd and I went to the library, we stopped by the bait shack. One of our church members owns it. I had talked to him Thurs night at Bible Study about buying some live crickets....no problem he said. In our science this week, we are learning to be a scientist--gathering information by observing. One of the activities is to observe crickets and identify body parts. We go into the bait shop with dd's little bug catcher kit thing......and he takes us to the back where they are. He asked how many we wanted....I stated we would like one male and a female........he looked at me like I had horns growing outta my nose ...... he said, 'huh??? I did not know there was a difference." I said, 'oh yeah, very easy to tell them apart' .......... he looked at me again. I explained the difference ...... he just stared at me. He reached down and pick up a handful and put them in the lil cage----9 of them. He would not let me pay for them.....he was still looking at me like I had lost my ever loving mind...I think he just wanted us and them out of there. When we got home, there were 2 males and 7 females. So we secured them in the schoolroom cause we had to go to town. When we returned home, the lil buggers had CHEWED the wire mesh covering the cage and escaped! Mercy, our cat was having a field day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought for a fleeting moment that Candid Camera was somewhere in here. It was just a comical scene. We have managed to catch 5 of them--the females. Still don't know where the males are. They might be in Mercy's stomach or hiding. At least they aren't nasty like roaches. So that was more stress this afternoon.....the ones we caught are now in a glass jar. Serves them right!

Mercy, our cat has been wild as a beast Saturday....its them crickets in her belly having a party!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sat my hubby went to the hardware store (owned by another church member) to get some screen to repair dd's bug hut. He told Will how much screen he needed....Will said, 'um, what are you gonna do with it?' Hubby told him that dd's science project had eaten thru the other screening and he needed to replace it cause there were crickets all in the house. Will just looked at him and said, 'um, okkkkkkkkkkkkk.' So we now have San Quentin for crickets in our schoolroom.

Sunday morning........woke up; 2 crickets are dead....other 2 fighting. This is whats supposed to happen according to the book......when you have more than 1 of the same sex in a cage, the dominant one will kill the others. That's why we wanted 1 of each. So we turned them out into the yard before church. I had no clue that crickers were such an ordeal.

Monday: Mercy was patiently waiting under the desk in the schoolroom....after about 3 hours, out came a very slow moving cricket. CHOMP! she ate it.

I think now we are out of the cricket observation stage. Dd learned all she wanted to know and then some. She can truthfully say that the cat ate her science project.

Its Labor Day!

Two weeks ago, we took off for the beach....we live just a few hours north of the beautiful gulf of mexico. We spent 6 days there and had a wonderful time. We became the proud owners of two hermit crabs! They are very small--one is the size of a quarter, the other one is smaller. They are so cute they are ugly....or is it the other way around??? They are so ugly they are cute???? Anyway, they are very nocturnal and quite entertaining when awake.

At first, whenever we would walk up to the cage, they would retreat into their lil shells.........now when we walk up, they poke their lil eyes out and look at us. They do respond to my voice too.....not dd's voice nor hubby's voice...just mine! Tonight, they have decided to rearrange the gravel in the cage........no reason or method to their doings......just very interesting.

My attempt to knit some slippers

Well, I am attempting to knit dd some slippers.....I found a pattern whereby you knit certain size squares, then sew them together in a pattern to form a slipper. It takes 14 squares for 2 slippers........so its going to take a while. No wonder homemade knit items sell for so much!!! It takes TIME to do that stuff! At the rate I am going, they MIGHT be ready by......January! LOL ... Thats about the time it gets cool here....notice I said cool, not cold. It hasn't been cold here in a few years. Sure would be nice to have some cold to kill off some of the vegetation and critters.

On a lighter note, we have completed 9 days of school. We will be off most of August due to several happenings, so we wanted to get a head start. It is very HOT and dry here and just too humid to be outside, so we are better off inside. We were invited swimming a couple days ago; even the water was tooo hot to enjoy it much.

A drought funny.......

It is so dry in Alabama that:

The Baptists have started sprinkling,

The Methodists are using a wet washcloth,

The Presbyterians are giving rainchecks, and

The Catholics are trying to turn wine back into water.

Yep, its DRY in Alabama......we are hoping that some forecasted rain showers will help remedy that situation this weekend.

The other Wednesday, Dad was 4 weeks post-op for his triple bypass and doing really well….was walking up to 3 miles a day, eating well, no swelling, and had gotten an OK report from his cardiac surgeon that day. He started swelling in his left leg last Wednesday night; by Thursday morning, he was in throbbing pain. Mom took him to Emergency Room #1; they began to give him pain medicine by IV. He immediately started reacting; Mom told them to stop giving it to him. They--unknownst to her--gave him 2 more doses in a short time. By the time he was dismissed, he was in worse shape than when he went in. They sent him home with pain pills. That night his pain was so bad, he took one. Within minutes, his whole body was in pain and he was swelling all over--including his eyes, tongue and throat. He was basically paralyzed. After calling us in the wee hours Fri morning, Mom rushed him to the Emergency Room at a different hospital. My husband and I immediately got on the road….[I am very thankful that the state troopers were busy elsewhere, cause we were hitting that pedal quite heavily.] The ER personnel immediately saw Dad was ill. Mom started recounting all that had happened since Wed night. They started working on him, but he got worse before he got better. I just knew for sure that we had lost him Friday.

After admitting him to the hospital, they x-rayed, CT scanned or MRI his whole body several times. There were 2 things happening: unknown infection and reaction to pain meds. We have since found out they gave him Dilaudid and Morphine mixed together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My dad had gone into anaphylactic (sp?) shock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is often a fatal condition!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was pumped with antibiotics, steroids and fluids--he was severely dehydrated. There were 4 doctors working on him and they all agreed it was NOT his heart, but something else. By Sunday morning, he was able to chew soft foods and sitting up in bed, walking down the hallways. He was released Monday afternoon to return home. He is doing really well despite his setback.

My family has experienced something like we have never had before. My dad, age 66, experienced a major heart attack Thursday May 3....when my mom got him to the hospital, they told her it was caught just in time..he only had minutes to live. Our dd and I had been there and returned home Thurs afternoon...needless to say, we left immediately going back when we got the phone call. My dad was in CCU in critical condition; he had a triple bypass on Tuesday, May 8 and was in CVICU for 22 hours. He returned home Saturday and is doing fairly well--according to my mom. I have been a SAHM since our daughter was born 9 years ago. My husband has never had to keep her or 'do' for her. Well, well, well.....this week, he had the 'school of hard knocks'. He has had her since Monday--on his own. I think she sorta kept him straight! I am hoping this experience might make him a lil more appreciative of me and what I do around here. I think they were both very glad to see me when I returned home. The dirty clothes pile was quite high......they had each used their own same towels for 11 days...reckon they have mold/mildew in them? Anyhow, all is clean now.........tea is freshly made.....and I am ready to go again whenever my parents need me. Fortunately we had finished our school year 2 weeks ago and now just busy filing and doing some fun projects.
