Go to https://www.optoutprescreen.com/ and you can opt out of creditors using your credit report to send you card offers. This won't stop them completely, but it will cut down significantly on the offers you get in the mail.

The second is not free (though it is very cheap), but is just as easy. Go to Zander Insurance and order their Identity Theft Protection insurance. It was designed and endorsed by Dave Ramsey, and in the event that you are a victim of identity theft, they handle everything from dealing with creditors, reporting bureaus, governmental agencies and the like. It's only $72 a year for individuals, or $140 a year for a family. I personally know 2 people who were victims of identity theft. Trust me, if you're a victim (and 1 in 12 per day are) you'll be glad you bought it.

We finally did both of these today. Take a word (or three paragraphs) from the wise, and follow suit.

I didn't even know he played golf....

From the Masters

Thursday, April 10, 2008

Every time before tonight when I would get something unexpectedly cheaper than I thought it was going to be, it never seemed like anything more than a coincidence. Tonight was the first one that really felt God influenced.

I wanted a new putter. An Odyssey White Hot Tri-Ball SRT to be exact.

I was planning on going to the golf store last night to see if they had it in stock. It was listed on their website as being on sale for $149, but I didn't think I would be able to get the web price in store, as is common with retailers. Much to my dismay, Rachael ended up having to work late last night and we didn't get to go.

Tonight she got off at 5pm, so off to the store we went. We got in at about 6:25pm, and I found the one I wanted. The ONLY one they had. Then they announced over the PA that the store was going to be closing for 30 minutes to prepare for a Callaway demo night that I didn't know was going on tonight. Needless to say I was pretty mad at being told I had to leave 5 minutes after I got in after fighting for 40 minutes in traffic to get there in the first place. I decided to just go waste 30 minutes, cause I really wanted to get that putter after spending so much effort to get there. So 30 minutes of ranting, raving and screaming about them kicking everyone out for a half hour later, I went back.

When we went in they gave us each a goody bag with some coupons, 2 free golf balls and the like. You also get a free raffle ticket to win gift cards. Well, guess who owns Odyssey putters? Yes, the afore mentioned Callaway Golf. On my sheet of coupons, was a coupon for $20 off any Odyssey White Hot putter. Shortly into the evening, my raffle ticket was drawn and I won a $25 gift card for use on Callaway products. I didn't figure they'd let me use the coupon AND the gift card, but I tried it anyway.
She scanned the putter, and it rang up for the $149 that was listed on the web site (though there was no sale sign in the store). She then used the coupon, but said the gift card was just for Callaway stuff. I told her I thought I'd be able to use it cause Odyssey was a Callaway product. She seemed unsure of that, but she asked her boss who confirmed that I could indeed use my gift card on the putter. All in all, tax included I got the $199.99 putter for $115.71 out the door.

As I was walking out of the store, I felt a slap upside the head (no, it wasn't Rachael) and the thought, "Now do you see why she worked late last night, and you had to wait 30 minutes for the store to re-open"??
Kind of a humbling feeling actually. Perhaps next time when everything seems to be going wrong, I'll be a little bit more patient and wait to see how He means it for good.

This putter feels sooooooo sweet if you wanted to know.

Saturday, April 05, 2008

If anyone wants to get me an early birthday present or anything...
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-SET-NIKE-CCI-4-AW-IRONS-STIFF-STEEL-DYNALITE-GOLD_W0QQitemZ180230483836QQihZ008QQcategoryZ115280QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Friday, April 04, 2008

I was playing with Google Earth, and found K.J. Choi's house (hint: he's the number 7 golfer in the world) in The Woodlands. It's ONLY worth $1.8 million. He's made $1.6M in winnings so far this year. If you were to break that down into rough equivalents for a 40 hour work week, he's earned more or less $3,333/hr this year.
