| Getting smarter...I've always been impressed with how smart my patients are. You can't force them to do anything. I had one 11 year old patient come in to my office today with a rash. Doc: Ok, let's take a look at that rash. Pt: You already saw the rash, on my leg and my calf. Doc: But don't you have a rash on your butt too? Pt: I'm not showing you that! Doc: Well, if I were you, I would want to show the rash to someone too to get help. Pt: Yeah, right. You would only show it to your wife, not a *doctor*! Doc: You've got a good point there. At this point, I could hardly keep a straight face. What a valid point he had. Today was rash day. I had to see another 6 year old with a rash on his butt, and when I took a look, he farted in my face. The joy of it all. | | |
| Mine homeFriday was a potpourri day for me. I visited Salvation Army in the morning, dropping off a load of scrumptious Panera bread. Had a chance to chat with B, the caretaker there, about the 22 inning Padres game. No wonder everyone's eyes were red! After SA, I went to look for condos, as the market is somewhat favorable now, with the correction, the interest rates and the conforming limits increasing. After viewing 5 condos with M, our agent, we asked Dido what his opinion was...
Mom: Which house did you like the best, Dido?
Dido: Mine. I like mine home the best! I wanna go home.
So, we went home, and I rushed off to PL's home. She is an elderly lady that we're helping in terms of Faith in Action, one Sunday where the church has a 'service' out in the community instead of within its four walls. This is an exciting time and opportunity for our church as we are making the effort by the Spirit to be more externally focused. I had a chance to review the work with PL, make friends, and even pray with her. It was a blessed time.
After that, I went off to play a game of pickup ultimate frisbee. Now, this is my latest, greatest addiction. I hear frisbee, I hear ultimate, my heart just starts pounding, and my legs start twitching. It is soooo much fun! We played a well fought game--the Shorties vs. the Giants, I want to say. (Guess which team I was on) We were down 6-1, but we missed many goal passes by just inches. Our legs were just warming up too. By the time our team chemistry clicked, we were only down 9-8 and rolling. We ended up winning the game, 13-11, time was up, and we had to return to work. I'm blessed by this pickup game, and I'm getting to know folks from HP, Sony, Yahoo, and BAE.
I went in to work (office and rounds) for a couple hours after the game, and then home for supper. A potpourri day indeed.

| QuotableLast week, Es was exhausted from not getting a good night's sleep, Mei mei woke up about 4 times throughout the night. Es, while fixing breakfast: I'm so tired, I need more sleep. Shaking his head, C: Mom, go back to sleep, we've got everything under control here. We'll take care ourselves. ______________________________________________________________________________________ A few days ago, Es was cleaning up after breakfast, around 9am. C: When is tomorrow coming? Es: LOL, (busting up) why? C: I want my bionicle from my piano teacher. She promised me a bionicle if I memorize those 10 piano pieces, remember? I just CAN'T WAIT! ______________________________________________________________________________________ We had a long day of activity starting at 9am to 9pm today. Church, teaching Sunday School, work, taking care of some dogs, seeing babies, patients, being on call, hanging out at lunch, playing ultimate frisbee, P Luke's b-day celebration. Praise God for the energy that He gives us. However, Es was quite exhausted after it all. Es: I'm just exhausted. I'm too old for this, this full day of activity. 2 year old Didi: Me too. | | |
| Ge GeI haven't written about Ge ge for a while... Let's preface this entry by saying we have been so blessed by C's grade school teachers in Poway Unified. C's first grade teacher encourages conversation in the classroom about making connections and what is being taught to their daily lives. Around Easter, a recent conversation at school, 1st grade...(V is C's classmate) V: Jesus did some rotten things, so he was punished on the cross. C (with a stern look): No, Jesus didn't do anything wrong. Teacher: That's right, Jesus was the only perfect person. C: Actually, there were 2 robbers next to him who did rotten things. ____________________________________________________________________________________ In first grade, they are starting to learn about meteorology and the stars and planets. (G and C are actually C's classmates, not C himself) G: What is the sun made out of? Teacher: Alot of hot gases. G: But how did the sun get there? C: God made the sun. G: Oh yeah? C: Yes, and I'm Baptist. _____________________________________________________________________________________ The main blessing is that C's teacher encourages and points the students in the direction of God and Creation. She doesn't initiate the conversation, but she lets the students make inferences and draw their own conclusions. Thinking is a premium in this class! E and I were thinking that at this tender age, it is so easy to quench spirituality, and kids are so so sensitive. We are just so thankful for C's teachers. Thank you, God, for your awesome provision! | | |
