Fun Times in Honduras.

I am happy to announce that I have found the solution to all our political problems here in Honduras, in the small costal town of La Ceiba! This guy has no idea what his shirt says and he was very happy to have his picture taken with me.

Also a quick side note... I just ate cow tongue for lunch with tomato sauce, rice and tortillas.

Caribbean

So I got the chance to hang out in the Caribbean this week for a few days with Adela, Madalyn and Marlon. We went to the small island of Roatan. It was a ton of fun, snorkeling, swimming, walking around, getting sunburnt (the sun is HOT). The best thing was the price. You can get a nice little apartment without AC next to the beach for $30 a night. Rent a snorkel for the day for $5 and see a ton of amazing fish in the reef that look like they are from Finding Nemo.

We stayed with a nice family in a little village outside of La Ceiba. Here la Senora is making some flour tortillas. We also took a nice hike in the jungle for about 3 hours to a waterfall that was incredibly tall. It must have been 300 to 400 feet tall. It was beautiful and the water was pure enough to drink. Honduras is a beautiful country. I don't know if I would want to live on the coast though. It's really hot. Siguadepeque is the place to be... 70s 80s in the summer and I'm on 3 hours away by bus from the coast if I feel like I need to see the reef and get a little sun.

Huckabee Saves a Life With Heimlich

I saw in the news today that Huckabee possibly saved a Republican candidate somewhere from affixiating by performing the Heimlich.

There was a big futbol game here yesterday. Honduras was playing Puerto Rico in the World Cup qualifiers. It was raining cats and dogs but they still played! The field was more like a lake then anything else. The ball wasn't even rolling it was so wet.

Adela and Madalyn arrived safely yesterday. Josh and I went to San Pedro to pick them up. They are staying with Luis at the moment until it´s figured out where they are going to stay more permanently and which hospital they are going to help.

I´m not going to be able to make it online tonight, but I will be on tomorrow night.

Spanish learning continues...

Hola yáll.

I´m still alive down here.

The Spanish learning continues. I´ve rediscovered the lost art of making flashcards. It´s a great way to start cramming the vocab into my brain. Cut an index card in half to make two flashcards. In the left pocket goes the unlearned vocab and the right the mastered vocab. It´s good for studying throughout the day.

The Spanish is improving quite a bit. I´m able to say alot more. I just wish I could understand better. At times it´s hard to catch what people are saying. My ear still isn´t used to hearing the conjucations of the verbs.

I played futbalito yesterday. I was the goaly. It was alot of fun. Futbalito is futbol (soccer) played with a mini soccer ball in a basketball sized concrete court with half sized (or less) goals. It was raining too, which made it interesting.

Gotta go!

Learning Spanish

How Kurt learns Spanish:

He reads a Spanish word, looks it up in the dictionary and then forgets it.

He reads it again, looks it up again and now can recognize it.

He reads it another five times and writes it another ten and now actually tries to use it in a sentence while talking.

If it ends in -ar he always conjugates it as an -ir or -er verb. If it ends in -ir or -er he conjugates it as an -ar verb.

After conjugating it wrong five times, he finally conjugates it himself properly.

Now Kurt has added a word to his Spanish vocabulary!
