[asia trip]
korea didn't meet my expectation. kimchi chiage was good but not spectacular. was surprised that korean bbq mostly consisted of pork and almost no bulgogi (marinated beef).
china (shenzhen) is crazy. people drive like there's no tomorrow, but there's still some order on the road. i really liked the food there, it was much lighter than i expected.
hong kong was simply awesome. haven't had that much fun in a while. thanks to j, k, p, t, and x. i would never forget the bar aqua tokyo, beer drinking at the hotel, and the longest hangover of my life. if it wasn't for that drinking, i could've enjoyed the food more.
everyone already knows tokyo have the best food in the world (but not the value). too bad i caught stomach virus and wasn't able to enjoy food for couple days. had my usual middle school re-union. i feel like there's more pressure to get married early in asia, all my friends are settling down. am i that old?
although they were too skinny for me, i was impressed by quality of girls in taipei. had the best xiao long bao and fried rice at dinh tai fong. i definitely want to go back there to eat. it was nice seeing familiar faces from highschool.

cut my thumb while cooking. it was painful. my knife is too sharp and i was too careless.
i sometimes think pork shabu-shabu tastes better than beef shabu-shabu
i am a minimalist. i still don't have a couch and tv in my apartment.
i always hear average iq is 100, but i never hear people getting less than 100. are people hiding it well or are they design to make people feel smart by not giving out bad scores?

[restaurant idea #1 ~tempura bar~ ] tempura bar. there will be bar equipped with fryer for tempura. customers can pick their favorite ingredients from the list, and tempura chef will cook it right in front of you. it is quite popular in japan. just imagine sushi bar, but they serve tempura instead. alcohol bar/wait area to boost some revenue. contemporary interior design to attract young&rich customers. american ppl loves fried food. just look at how popular papadeuax and fast food restaurants are. need to americanize tempura to appeal to broader range of ppl. beside the traditional soy sauce based tempura sauce, there will be mexican salsa sauce and asian (thai/chinese) spicy sauce. the problem will be cost of ingredients and waste management (esp used oil). like sushi, good tempura requires good/expensive ingredients. not sure how many ppl are willing to pay big bucks for it. and i have no idea how i'm going to deal with wastes..... i just keep hearing it's one of restaurant's worst nightmare. oh... and I probably need to go back to japan to get trained..... gonna need unique ingredient. just like how truluck's is popular for stone crabs. tempura ice cream is a must. i may also get pacific sea eel or black tiger shrimp. or maybe alaskan cod?! it should all tastes great.
