baby frenzy and insomnia

there's this cool face recognition program that can transform my pic to a piece of artwork. i tried it with a variety of pics with my hair down and tied up. haha and here goes:

if i were a manga character!!! by far my fav haha

if i were caucasian- man i'd be an ugly white chick hahahaa

afro-carribean

if i were XY

an apeman

 potential portraits by botticelli

example of his original work -

if i were drawn by modigliani

example of his original work -

when i'm 90

ericyang and me as kids haha i think ericyang is really cute! omg if we weren't so fat as kids for realz.

so as you all may know, all i talk about these days is being pregnant. haha. so i morphed our transformed kiddie pics (i can't find our original baby pics) and here are our kids!!! HAHA

ready ready?

THE YANG FAMILY! 8-)

dad +  mom

1st child

2nd child

our youngest

too bad i can't tell if i'd prefer them to be guys or girls. and wtf i think they all look more like ericyang. haha i picked the creepiest looking one to be our neglected middle child. and i picked the best looking to be our youngest - i must be biased already!

haha alrighty enough craziness.

have a happy long weekend!

haha i was sorting out my photos and realized that i've got so many pics here from our recent eatings that i just gotta post. it's an addiction. or obsession. haha.

chili duck
backbay

thai crazy roll - shrimp, lettuce, bean sprouts, basil leaves and vermicelli rolled up in soft mochi-like spring roll skin then fried tempura style and topped with spicy peanut sauce.

oh...my...god!!!! must try must try must try!!!!!

taranta
northend

an italian/peruvian fusion restaurant. first restaurant we love in the north end! plus it's only steps away from florentine cannolis.

traditional italian sourdough- thick chewy crust and a tangy crumb that leaves your mouth with a sweet starchy taste

honestly i'm not a big sourdough person so i don't really appreciate it haha. but ericyang is and he claims that this is the best sourdough he's eaten.

tavolozza di antipasti meridionali - sweet sundried tomatos, capicolla ham, marinated mushrooms, grilled zucchini, fresh pepper mozzarella, olives, proschiutto, and artichoke hearts.

ravioli ripieni d'aragosta - lobster and crab ravioli in mascarpone cherry tomato sauce with juicy prawns

this was gerald's dish. wow.

costoletta di maiale con canna dizucchero e rocoto - double cut pork chop brined with sugar cane and rocoto pepper glaze. its served with a yucca piatella (mashed potato-like root YUMMMMMM) and a sauté of giant peruvian corn, spinach and caramelized onions

whiskey's
backbay

can't beat the 10cent wings.

and the company 8-) cornell kdphi!

haha lesby's not in the mood

the similians
cambridge

old lady spicy - grilled chicken (you can choose pork or shrimp) with roasted soft thai eggplant, peppers, green beans and sweet basil in some special spicy garlicky sauce.

best. thai dish. ever. in boston.

i think you can get that at brown sugar too (same owner).

and over at christina's homemade ice cream

azuki and ginger molasses - my two favs there! they're creamy, stretchy with a slight icy slush texture. ahhh i want more!!!

sorry i didn't take pic of my ice cream. or i did. but it is just not presentable.

speaking about ice cream...

emack & bolio's
backbay

rice crispies-coated sugarcone and laojie keke

my fav is def their cosmic crunch. although their pistachio nut was really good too.

and i know coldstone is nothing too special...

but i'm in the ice cream mode and their boston cream pie is OMGGG ORGASMIC 100000000X hahaha

toscanini
cambridge

mabbe it's cuz of all the hype but i found it only alright. although our cherry choco chip ice cream was really good. i put it right under coldstone.

anyways...back to appetizers/finger foods

sunset grill & tap
allston

112 beers on tap!

too bad the pomegranate beer i tried wasn't that great. 8-(

but

their sweet potato fries with tangy raspberry vinegar - AHHH GOOOOOD. and their spinach and artichoke pita chips with marinated eggpants and roasted peppers AHHH YUMMMM.

jacob wirth's
theater district

i only went for their cornbread, but found some other AMAZING foods on their menu

jake's summer nachos - blue corn tortillas topped with bleu cheese bechamel sauce, topped with chopped bacon and scallions, diced tomato, cherry peppers and more bleu cheese crumbs.

forget the burger. their FRIES omgggggg @#$@#d it's got some kind of corn crust coating on it. SO GOOD hahahaha  just go try it.

china pearl
woburn

ya forget chinatown! roz took us to woburn and it was so much better there!

my fav! it's so soft and juicy...droooool.

and they're filled with collagen! fight aging haha

"come up here! we want more chicken feet!"

el pelon
fenway

long been ericyang and bj's fav. but we recently tried their pescado burrito - fried fish filet + chile mayo, limed onions, and their other regular burrito stuffings. it's the golden fish filet of burritos. hahaha

sorry no other better pic than this innards pic

chung ki wah
medford

although i must admit that kalbi at koreana is better, but for some reason i prefer chung ki wah. mabbe it's the atmosphere? the overall package? or the friendly service? either way, LOVE IT keke.

brunch stella
south end

fruit salad with chopped mint leaves (100+/10 on my scale haha) / stella eggs benedit with prosciutto cotto

smoked salmon, asparagus and chives omelette. and oh almost forgot, tehir ROMAN POTATOES ARE TO DIE FOR (100000000+/10 on my scale) hahahahah

and THE BEST PHO YOU'LL EVER GET - boiling beef bone broth over fresh bouncy noodles topped with thinly sliced marinated beef shank, fresh cilantro and chopped green onions

where do you get this? not telling. you gotta be on my like list for me to take you there

keke other than foods -

castle island  - 'canyon at the arbor', cool ship, sunny (don't tell my dermatologist that i was there), the walk around their 'sugarbowl' / midnight bowling / w/ roz  / jen and mariano's wedding at boston public garden

alrighty gotta get my ass to work now.

baibaiiiii

i have officially started a hate list for my school. and on the very top of my list is...

*drumroll*

'pubes'

s/he will be avoided like the stinky sweaty fat kid in school.

otherwise, i've been fucking around, trying to survive through till the end of june (that is when first year ends for me).

haha this is our typical weekend -

it starts out slow...

(featuring ericyang's 600dollar backpack)

then half hour later...

happily,  jolly househusband ericyang has been cooking up some real good dishes and keeping my stubborn winterweight in tact. he has also been doing some random stunts and getting ridiculous haircuts to keep my life enthused.

that is what happens after you've spent a 3-day weekend running 4 westerns and ending up getting one faint band. HAHHAHA  isn't he adorable?!!???

but sadly, my dermatologist has strongly recommended me to stay out of the sun this summer. unless i want to go out with a hat, an umbrella, and spf 60. so no beach for powen tu this year. and that's why the winterweight will happily stayed on.

check out my study pack haha:

i think this was the highlight of ericyang's creations this semester:

his sukiyaki recipe-
base: mirin, soysauce, sugar, green onions, broth
addins: thinly sliced ribeye beef, chinese cabbage, aged tofu, shirataki, white and enoki mushrooms

my twinnie - tina wong

 let's bring xanga back!

i haven't done a real update in so long - and i just realized how much xanga has improved its user interface! instead of uploading pics one by one, i can upload folder by folder! the only thing that needs improvement is my picture taking skills and my writing. come on - let's bring xanga back!

click pics to enlarge...

chicago love.

we went to chicago for 3 conferences in a 4-day weekend. it was awesome. it's like nyc but milder and friendlier. love the people, the cool buildings, and of course the FOOD.

chicago airport

john hancock building on magnificent mile, wrigley building

view from our hotel room - where chicago river meets the michigan lake

chicago trump tower on chicago lake (my best friend's wedding!), the 'corn cobs'!

chicago theater on the north loop

cloud gate at millenium park

prudential tower (so much prettier than ours in boston), michigan ave

cool reindeers (moose?) outside our hotel

tribune tower from michigan ave bridge, chicago subway - 'the L'

we tried to get tix to the wicked, but instead lined up for garrett's popcorn. got the chicago mix: cheese and caramel. ORGASMIC.  if i could eat one thing for the rest of my life in chicago, it'll be garrett's chicago mix popcorn.

basic algebra: chicago mix = cheddar cheese + caramel = orgasmic

and of course the rest of our food bingeing weekend -

gibsons steakhouse. best steak ever. EVER.

WR's chicago cut (bone-in ribeye)

finished off with old fashion sundae

giordano's chicago deep dish pizza

8.5/10 for visual; 10/10 for amusement factor; 7/10 for taste
(in powentu's words, not worth the calories haha)

gino's east pizzeria

they claim to have the original chicago deep dish pizza

gino's east deep dish supreme - check out the giant garlic sausage patty!
5/10 for visual; 10/10 for uniqueness; 8/10 for taste

in other words, i think we prefer uno's pizza. hahaha. i'm sorry - but the fun factor is def up there though!

the chicago-style hotdog is a different story...

portillo's hot dog
IMG_6491small  IMG_6493small

IMG_6496small
all beef hot dog topped with cucumbers, relish, onions, tomatoes, peppers, mustard and a ginormous pickle.

joy yee's noodle shop in chinatown

ironically, their best dish wasn't their noodles, but their baked bamboo rice

but what's even more kickass was their fruit bar-

they've got over 50 varieties of juices/slushes/milk teas!

.
freshly blended papaya ice (and check it out - it's only 3.75!) haha i sound like rachel ray

and last but not least -
freshly baked cinnamon roll from corner bakery

although i must admit that if we lost panera bread i'd def throw a huge fit, but it'll be nice to have corner bakery here too!

LA love.

the following weekend we went to LA to attend ericyang's cousin's wedding. it was beauiful!

and greeted by the wonderful LA traffic...

with a radio that seems to have gwen stefani and akon on repeat

fun fun~

kodak theater, chinese theater and hollywood boulevard...

and of course the obligatory trip to japanese grocery stores in little tokyo/weller court

it's like we're back in japan!

green tea, red bean and vanilla swirl ice cream from mikawaya mochi shop

stuffing japanese snacks into our suitcase

memorable eats -

foo foo tei
A MUST TRY if you're EVER in socal. i don't care where - drive hours if you need to. YOU MUST GO.

we were there almost 45 mins before it opened - and look at the line!

starters...

korokke (fried mashed potato with ham and onions) with tonkatsu sauce

cripsy fried tofu - the juice squirts out! haha

grilled ika (squid)

fried gizzards

broiled mackeral

the highlight...

pork bone broth ramen

umani ramen (pork and mushroom gravy ramen)

i wish i could show you all the different ramen styles they've got - i've tried 5 of them from the last 3 trips there, and they were ALL GREAT.  hahah here i've even uploaded their menu for you all.

agora churrascaria
my first upscale brazilian bbq. no, it's more like a steakhouse.

caramel bananas to start. looks like poop keke

soft dougy cheesy bread. YUM.

sirloin, filet, ribeye, lamb chop, sausages, chicken hearts, bring it on

dulce de leche flan - hahaha i took a bite outta it before i took the pic. sorry - it was so good i couldn't resist!

pretty salad bar (i know you're not supposed to care about salad when you're a a brazilian bbq place, but it's impt to me! hahaha), giant parmasan cheese bowl!

and the wonderful company -

albert, ericyang, me, paul, elva

our first hunan cuisine
one word - SPICY

steamed fish head (topped with chili flakes, chili seeds and more chili oil)

steamed egg - you haven't tried steamed egg until you've tried this!

stirfried lamb with cilantro (and chili of course haha)

and i leave with you this beautiful mango ice from RJ patissarie....

i'm  2 weeks behind, and in med school, that's like 2 months behind. and i still got time to update on xanga! i dont' understand why it's dying - come on, lets all bring xanga back!!!!

xanga love.
