Random...

Lately I have been interesting in looking into my spirituality.  Seems that all the spiritual books have one theme in common: our world is going crazy, and to become happy and "enlightened", we have to stay away from the values our society holds.

As a 22-year-old, I really don't want to believe that our world is heading in the wrong track. Conservatively, I still have 50 to 60 years to live, and my life hasn't really started in a sense.  Obviously, I can't detach myself from the values as well since I need those values in order to excel on the things I want to do.  I can't live in the moment, because my life lies in the future... yet the future is so abstract, full of uncertainties and potentials, that I really don't know where to start thinking.

I can't think anymore... it seems that whatever I think will go to a dead end. Maybe I should just stop thinking...

Horoscope Time!

6-9 Virgo/Sagittarius
The combination of your Sun in Virgo and Moon in Sagittarius in many respects produces a dreamer that thinks in large broad terms; a Virgo who consistently belies the nature of the sign. You are capable of doing things that you probably disapprove of, for the sake of adventure, romance, and excitement. The puritan nature, commonly the hallmark of Virgo, may have to look the other way while you accumulate a few experiences. You are definitely not a classic Virgo possessing a narrow and focused mind. Many of the thoughts that run though your head bear little connection to everyday life. You are surprisingly philosophic and somewhat introspective, but instead of looking inside yourself, you seem to hold preconceived notions of what you are or would like to be. You can be so idealistic at times that it will be hard for anyone to meet your expectations. You can spend a good part of your life just daydreaming, though you do possess a practical analytical nature allowing you to be a very creative person when you decide you want to be. Your challenge will always be to control your restlessness and concentrate on things that have true relevancy. You can be very dramatic in all your actions, and you likely have a good talent for acting. Your use of body language and gestures can clearly communicate. You must be especially careful in this sometimes, and be aware of a tendency toward bluntness in dealing with other people. Often they will take a tactless comment much more personally that you intended it. Human sensitivities are something that you will have some difficulty understanding.

What Happened to My Face?

Ever have the experience that your face looks flawless in reality, but flashes horribly white in pictures?  You are so sure that you got the right shade (or at least not as white as the shade in the picture), so what's the culprit to all your horrible faces in pictures?

Flash Light causes light-reflective materials to bounce back light which creates a white cast in the picture.  What is the light-reflective materials on your face?  Sunscreen.  Physical sunscreen works by reflecting light beams off your face so that they won't penetrate your skin and cause damage.  However, it also means white casts in pictures.

Maybe you don't wear sunscreen, but sunscreen in foundation will also cause the same problem.  The problem is particularly serious if you use powder foundation (Minerals foundation doesn't seem to have this problem though).  I don't know why exactly, but it's from experience that I can tell.  Also in a MAC live chat, the makeup artist told me the Studio Fix Powder foundation (which contains no sunscreen), also tend to have that effect.  So with a powder foundation that contains sunscreen, I can almost guarantee you a white face under flash light.

I have done an experiment to demonstrate this flash white effect, I use Sofina Raycious Prime Up Base and Powder Foundation in Ochre 15.

Both pictures are taken under the some light, from the same angle, the only difference is that I didn't wear any foundation on the left, and packed on Raycious Powder Foundation on the right.  Even the wrong shade of foundation couldn't have caused the weird white cast on the face.

I think I have written too long by now...

Green Lipgloss?!

 DSCN1896

Ever wonder what a green lipgloss will do to your lips?

MAC Jest

This is MAC Jest lipstick by itself... See what MAC Springbean (the green lipgloss) will do to it...

See, a green ligploss doesn't turn my lips green. Instead it neutralizes the redness in the lipstick and make it more pink!

OK, I am officially done with my undergraduate classes...

NARS Mata Hari & Gina

Being such a NARS addict, of course I am not going to give up on the chance of saving 15% on narscosmetics.com using the code jump10.  Knowing that I desperately need some matte blushes, I bought my long time lemming Mata Hari and Gina.

Here's Mata Hari on me:

DSCN1880

It's a really nice matte pink without looking extremely Barbie looking.  I tried NARS Desire and Angelika in the past and both of them looked extremely bubble-gummy on me. But this one complements my warm tone skin pretty well.  This is one of the few pinks that actually looks pink and flatter me.

Gina:

I was a little heavy-handed in the left pic because I want it to show up as more orange.  The flash washed out the color a bit and though it still look pretty (I mean the color, not me!).  Probably it's because of my pink tank, I seem to like Mata Hari more.  Maybe it's time to buy a white tank from American Apparel so that I can make more unbiaed makeup decision.  Anyways, this tangerine color still show up extremely natural and flatter my warm skin tone. Perhaps it will be a good idea to pair this up with my NARS Laguna Bronzer (Will try that look later...)
