  • #528 Summer Mobile Uploads Pt.1

My first summer Friday is tomorrow and I'm planning on using it to catch up on a few things I've been putting off.  It seems that you're always trading time no matter what you may be doing.  I keep remembering certain things I'd like to get started on or finish up but somehow, I can't seem to get to them all.  I guess that's just life-- always moving and changing and stopping for no one.

So on that note, I haven't been able to update as much as I've like to because I've been out and about.  These last couple weeks have been eventful, at least for someone of my expectations and standards.  This is a good thing.  My 4 day Fourth of July weekend included going to a Ravinia concert to see the Mendelssohn String Quartet, a first annual classic car show at my own home town, spending an entire afternoon reading at a park (yes, I've been reading on the Mac tutorials), and attending a Ribfest.  Time with friends and family are important now matter how busy you become in life.  It will always be the ultimate feel-good factor.

Anyways, I've wanted to write more but sometimes there's just too many other distractions.  I wish I had something that would just record my thoughts as they come and I could save it, and upload it later to right here.  If that was the case, I think I would have a lot more activity going on.  But then again, I would take those quiet and contemplative moments for granted.  So I guess nothing good should come effortless.  On that note,  that just reminds me I have a quite a list of to-dos for my day off tomorrow.  There's laundry, shopping, errands to run, things to pick up at the library, not to mention hundreds of photos from the last 6 months are still sitting on my hard-drive and camera waiting to be edited and uploaded.  That's basically the reason why you never see much photos posting on my blog.

So for now, I'm just going to do the easiest thing, post photos from my phone (since I found out I could bluetooth my pictures straight to my computer effortlessly).  Here it goes, the last couple of months through the eyes of my Nokia:

(Fathers Day, there was some sort of bench painting contest near Evanston.  This was one of my favorite because I thought it offered a unique perspective, hehe)

(This one here was my number one choice. It's so colorful and creative and had wonderful quotes from 3 people: John Lenon, Gandhi, and M.L.King Jr.   I wonder if he won the contest.  If you look closely, "Imagine" isn't spelled how you'd think it is..)

(This one has a specific message that really resonated for me.  Zen-like)

(It's a privilege to be able to sit on one of these bench.  So much work and thoughts go into each seating)

(One day when I was near the lakefront, we saw that someone was driving this car through the parking lot.  It was blasting some hip hop music and drove about 5 mi/hour as it passed on by)

(I actually have this image set as my phone's wallpaper.  We were taking a stroll after dinner that same day at the lakefront and the sunset was just comparable to a painting in the sky.  And what made this scene so interesting and peaceful was the image of a man praying and facing the lake.  As I looked closely, I could see he had set out two or so Buddha figurine statues. There's just something so peaceful when we see someone in prayers.  So when I feel stress, I look at this image on my phone and it helps.)

  • I did get that iMac after all...
20 inches of clear resolution beauty.
    Happy early birthday to me!
(Thank you Robin for his 50% investment).

It was the most I've ever spent in 10 minutes.
Their student discount that's going on until Sept is quite a bargain.
Free printer and iPod touch with a computer purchase.
Who knew taking that 8 week Chinese course was going to be an added-bonus.

I already have checked out 2 tutorial books to help me in the transition.
For the most part, I got the Finder, iChat and iTunes down, the essentials.
The rest is going to be just fabulouso...
Hooray for Mac! Yep, I've switched over.

Watch this video... it is quite interesting and is amazing.

Allthough I am a Buddhist, I truly respect every other religion as if it was my own because I truly believe whatever faith we may behold, each spiritual path serves a purpose of helping us to find our true self and to always teach us to become better human beings.  And seeing faith in a young child such as this is definitely worth my respect because at such a young age, she seem to bear a certain wisdom and true confidence in her being that's about ten folds as a grown man. Now even though I don't know how such a spiritual experience can happen to one person and not another, or how one person is born to become such a prodigy while another is just average, but perhaps it is just that some of us can tune into to the core of our beings better than others.  And maybe the modern life we are living now  is one that offer too much comfort and luxury, and as a result it becomes too easily distracted and to take the simple things and pleasures for granted.

Far be it that they say getting older is getting wiser, I feel getting older means getting more cynical and less imaginative-- that you slowly loose the ability to believe like when you were little. I think the wonder in children is truly a born-given gift-- to bear such innocence that is independent of the world we live in, is in essence-- a true wisdom. So no matter what we think where this innocence came from or who has given it, it does not dilute the quality of something that is originally good.  So it doesn't matter if it's God or Allah, or Buddha, or any other deity, I would like to think that at the heart of the matter, what is really beautiful is truly beautiful, no matter what it is called or classified or categorized.  And we know this beauty is universal when we can look at it from anywhere we stand, and can imagine it to be of the same beauty in any and every angle.

That is how I think of this girl and her artwork.

About Me

  • "The purpose of writing is to inflate weak ideas, obscure poor reasonings, and inhibit clarity" - Calvin to Hobbes In my own words: I write for me, and for no one else's. This online journal accounts for my thoughts, experiences, passions, my life. Nothing lives more than this day. But if I were to live, I shall account them by my writings. Words are eternal. They seek to invigorate the mind, free the spirit, and find the soul. You shall not tame me by my thoughts, for they infinitely span like the horizon. You shall not contain me, for I am a free soul when I was given this thought.
